Draft JC Watts?
petitions.com ^ | 3/4/2008 | Self

Posted on 03/04/2008 7:24:30 PM PST by WillRain

The purpose of this petition is simple... to convince Senator John McCain to put former Congressman JC Watts on the Republican ticket in 2008. Congressman Watts is a man of high character, a committed social and economic conservative, a business man, a former national leader in the Republican Congress, a spokesman and advocate of Republican ideals, and uniquely prepared to be the President of the United States. JC can unite the Republican Party by bringing together conservatives of all stripes and bridging the gap between Senator McCain and many in his own party that have disagreed with him in the past. JC Watts for Vice President.

I did not start this petition, but i approve of its goal. This is perhaps the only choice that would meet with my unreserved approval (for various reasons). I do acknowledge that the sun would not set before the liberal media began to sing the word "tokenism" in chorus, which is, as far as I can see, the only major argument against selecting Watts.

Still, all the arguments in favor greatly outweigh that factor. Watts is almost uniquely qualified to be the "face" of Reaganite conservatism to the next generation. Jindal and some others are on the horizon, to be sure. But not yet. Watts can be that catalyst NOW. It would be tragic to waste that opportunity.

for those of you who think otherwise, fine, I respect your opinion - this is merely a thread to call the petition to the attention of those Freepers who share my high view of Mr. Watts. The petition is woefully short on names now and I'm hoping the denizens of FR can remedy that.

And yes, I know that online petitions hardly ever have a real affect.

I suspect this petition would have a much better chance at getting the VP nomination for J.C.Watts if it demanded of John McCain that he pick anyone BUT J.C.Watts...

"So, Hitlery or Hussein are your choices?"

Ya know, your comment was not directed at me, but isn't that 'if you don't support McCain you must be gonna vote for Clinton or Obama' line is getting pretty damned tired. You McCain voters gonna get any new material before the general election?

Basically, that's what I recall also...plus he's had the bankruptcy probs which would render him unelectable on the national stage.....red meat for the MSM.

What has JC Watts been doing since he left DC? I haven’t seen him once on any news channel or heard him mentioned in the media at all. If he was in play you’d think he’d be getting out there more than he has. I was disappointed when he abruptly left town and was wondering if he had something up his sleeve.

JC Watts would be an excellent choice. I don't think McCain will choose him, but I wish that he would.

The best case scenario would be for Obama to get a majority of the primary votes, but for Hillary to steal the nomination through back room deals with democrat super-delegates. If that happens and McCain had Watts as VP, it might encourage some blacks to leave the democrat plantation once and for all.

. . . it might encourage some blacks to leave the democrat plantation once and for all.

We already had a case study of how that would turn out in the Maryland Senate race in 2006. A white lieberal beat a black lieberal in the Democrat primary. The Republican nominee was the black lieutenant governor, capable, articulate and moderate. I think he managed a whole 12% of the black vote.

No one with McTemper's ego would possibly agree to having a VP this is:
1)More personable
2)Better looking
3)A sincere conservative
4)Better speaker

In short, someone that would soak up the media attention that McEgo lives for.

By your tagline, your answer should be clear. GOD is in control. Que Sera Sera. Friend, I’ve had enough...ENOUGH...of these farcical candidates claiming to be the Conservative standard-bearer for us. This country has lived through much; it will do so again. This frenzied hand-wringing about the ‘Rat candidate will do us no good. There’s going to be a landslide RAT victory in ‘08...the base has been shunned, and like a beaten wife, we keep running back to the abuser. Unfortunately for the GOP machine, there’s some of us who learned about the principles of standing up for your beliefs, not bending over for them.

If we truly believe in our principles..if we truly believe in the ideas that we espouse...then we should have the utmost Faith, with the GOD that created us, that any policies to the contrary will eventually see the light of day and be defeated.

I will not be intimidated by foolish squealing about the destruction of the US by a solitary liberal. There’s a stand to be made. We stand...NOW....or, we suffer in darkness for far longer than a 2-term Democrat President.

I wish Pubs would stop thinking in the same PC terms as the Dems. So many of you think the only way to stop either a black man or a white woman from winning is for us to put up our own PC candidate as a reply. Hence the Condi, Alan Keyes, JC Watts, Kay Bailey Hutchison, etc. suggestions for VP are coming fast and furious. I hate this. I want just the opposite merely on the ground of principle, that we stop the mad PC train careening down the tracks.

I want a middle aged white man with a lot of economic experience that will help make up for McCain’s major experience deficit, who will be experienced enough himself to step in to the presidency should something happen to McCain due to age or health reasons. The heck with this constant PC bandwagon. Gotta have a black, hispanic, woman. How about an Asian, a Slav, or for that matter a Muzzie? Hmmmmm? If you are going to go off the PC deep end, then do it up big. Have a Muzzie for VP. Geez..... Stop it, Freepers. It’s so bogus.

I hate to rain on everyone's parade....but a simple Yahoo search will show that Watt's personal, IRS and bad debt history precludes him from being selected to run for dog catcher.

He won't even get close to be considered for Veep. He'd be shredded to pieces by the media the day his name was announced.

Too bad. I like J.C. as most of us do.....but reality is reality.

No matter what the substance of any of Watt’s foibles, the media would shred a black conservative. They hate them. They made an example of Clarence Thomas that remains very vivid as a deterrent. If I were black, his name would be my first thought if I were asked to run for national office.

McCain is going to pick another open borders RINO for VP. If he wins the election, we’ll have another RINO puke as the shoe-in in the 2012 primary.

Face the facts, if he wins there is virtually no chance of putting a conservative Republican on the ticket in 2012.

Although, take heart. It won’t matter. After 4 more years of open borders, we aren’t going to see any more Republican presidents. Conservative or RINO.

I agree with you that he isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer. I’ve never seen him out debate a Democrat; he usually ends up agreeing with the Dem’s argument and backs down in a fight.

The idea of V.P. is who can step in if the top guy is disabled. Watts as president? Come on. He was a lackluster representative who quit the House. If he weren’t Black, he wouldn’t even be considered. He is one overrated politician.

I probably agree with ALL Steele's stand on issues. But nobody knows him from a hole in the ground or cares about him, either, except knowledgeable conservatives.

What power would he bring to the McCain ticket? Hell, I have all the right stands on issues, also, but McCain sure won't pick me for his veep because I'm not exactly a household name.

Did you mention Steele because he's black and would negate Osama if he's the nominee? If so, read Flaglady47's excellent comments on # 71 above.
