Atlanta Nuggets:

AMS Announces record purse: NASCAR drivers competing in the March 9 Kobalt Tools 500, the March 8 Nicorette 300 and the March 7 American Commercial Lines 200 Craftsman Truck Series races at Atlanta Motor Speedway will be battling for nearly $7 million in posted prize money. The awards for the events are part of a $6,763,848 purse announced for the three days of racing that comprise the March 7-9 Kobalt Tools 500 race weekend schedule of events. This exciting weekend of racing will kick off Friday night, March 7 with Georgia Power Sprint Cup Qualifying night, immediately followed by the American Commercial Line 200 Craftsman Truck Series race, where the tough trucks of NASCAR will hit the 1.54-mile quad-oval and battle for more than half a million dollars. Racing action will heat up on Saturday, March 8 when the Nationwide Series regulars try and beat select Sprint Cup drivers in the Nicorette 300, with $1,151,315 up for grabs. On Sunday, the stars of the Sprint Cup series will take on the high banks of Atlanta Motor Speedway in the Kobalt Tools 500, racing for a record purse of $5,060,012. This is the first time in Atlanta Motor Speedway's history the purse has exceeded five million dollars.

When I get frustrated about the upcoming election, I go dig in my back yard. I figured I’d bury enough food for eight years. If all else fails, I can cement it and have the pool I’ve always wanted... or, sponsor neighborhood mud wrestling matches. I figure I’ll have about one chance in 150 million of changing the outcome... how’s that for a reality check?

OTOH, there’s a race on this weekend!

Too bad we don’t have a LasVegasMac in Atlanta!

It was a lovely day here in the Land of Big Trees so I ventured out into the garden to watch wife spade a strip 3’ by 50 feet for a flower bed. Took her 65 minutes. Not a record but a new model is out of the question...

You'ld be Krazy not to use Kobalt tools!

I just don't get some people's mindset. Sure glad all of our drivers are not part of the "pick up my ball and go home crowd".

I think I need to go short trackin so I may miss the tape delay Saturday night.

Did ya'll see what Nascar did to Flipper today?

Carl Edwards was docked 100 points and car owner Jack Roush 100 owner points because of the oil reservoir unbolted cover issue. This drops Edwards from 1st to 7th in points.
Crew chief Bob Osborne was fined $100,000, suspended from the next six races until April 30 and placed on probation through the end of the year.

In addition, Edwards will not receive a 10-point bonus for last Sunday's victory if he qualifies for the Chase.

IMHO the COT sucks and so do many if not most of the NUTSCAR rules about them.

Where is inovation? Locked in a cage!!!

The rule book should be torn in half with only the safety provisions left!

Wow. From the severity of the penalty, NASCAR seems to be saying that they believe this was something that helped the car go faster somehow.

I was not a fan of COT when it first arrived, but have warmed to it. When Flash and JJ totaled out their cars in the Shootout, they were able to replace them with cars technically for another track. And then in the race, there was far more passing than I’ve seen in quite a while at Daytona or Taladega. They would start their normal train thing and someone would just drop out and go forward. Don’t know if they showed it on TV or not, but it was happening well back into the pack too.

On that I agree. They could start by granting freedom of speech to the drivers and even allowing them to throw two but not more than ten punches at others after a wreck.

Don’t stop now... if the drivers wanted to throw more than ten punches, Nascar could offer pay-per-view for WWN All Star Racer Wrasslin. Hell, I’d pay to watch it. Smoke vs. Karl Busch, $20! Oh yah. Jimmy Spencer vs. Mike Helton, $50. WOOO!

I could go on...
