Posted on 03/06/2008 9:01:19 AM PST by seanmerc
Republican crossover voters apparently helped win the Democratic primary in Texas for Hillary Clinton with one in every 10 Democratic votes came from Republicans.
And they could have been heeding the call of top-rated radio host Rush Limbaugh, who had been urging Republican listeners to vote for Hillary to prevent the Democrats from unifying around Obama and to keep the two candidates battling each other.
Hillary Clinton is back in the race, thanks in some small part to Republican voters mindlessly following the commands of radio entertainers and crossing party lines to vote for the candidate they view as weakest, Bud Kennedy writes in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram Wednesday.
According to exit polls, of the 10 percent of Democratic votes that came from Republicans, about 53 percent of the crossovers chose Obama and 46 percent went with Clinton, the Dallas Morning News reports.
But previously these crossovers had voted overwhelmingly in favor of Obama. And the exit polls also show that Hillary won handily among conservative voters, including many Democrats, 53 percent to 43 percent over Obama, reports the Web site Outside the Beltway which also noted that Clinton truly might have won the Texas primary on the backs of Rush Limbaugh listeners.
Clintons overall margin of victory was just 3 percent about 98,000 votes out of 2.8 million cast.
Thousands of traditionally Republican voters helped swell the ranks of the Democrats, the Morning News observed.
Some crossed over out of support for Mr. Obama, others were simply dissatisfied with their own partys choice. Still others supported Mrs. Clinton hoping that by helping extend the Democratic feud, they would leave their own party in a better spot this fall.
Limbaugh claimed at least some of the credit for Hillarys victory, saying on Wednesday: What we did, if we did anything, is to create a bunch of chaos in the Democratic Party and it worked.
Yuck, I wonder how these republicans had the stomach to vote for hillary. I hope they had a barf bag handy.
I would much rather watch another few months of chaos between these two numbnuts. So what if they voted for the witch. She is totally unelectable. Her own party is showing that now...This gives the Slime machine time to put more negative info out there against Osamabama....(see my tagline)
Bots, have no stomach, and no self awareness they are just bots.
1. The obvious, Hillary stays in the race, they spend more money, beat each other up, blacks and Hispanics go at each other and one group is so soured they don't support the dim nominee on November.
2. Hillary stays in the race but doesn't get “real” credit for her win among the base because the Obama people claim it is tainted by Rush's influence.
I agree with you. What if we get stuck with her screaming at us for 8 long years? The first thing she is going to do is to put a big feminist on the Supreme Court. The feminists do not like Limbaugh, I don't why he wanted people to vote for her. The pubbies want her if they cannot get old McCain voted in.
Lots of liberals agree with you. Some of us conservatives, however, find that slightly insulting.
This Texan voted his conscience and it wasn’t Dim.
Don't underestimate the machine/enabling media/dirty tricks. Limbaugh really picked a poor strategy this go round. She should have been booted off the campaign trail forever earlier this week.
Sorry, this doesn’t pass the smell test.
“According to exit polls”: very easy for exiting Republicans, being interviewed, to say they voted for Hillary, just to mess up the press idiots.
Unless your state and federal Republican candidates are in solid safe seats, Republicans who are contemplating crossing over and voting democrat in the remaining primaries may be cutting off their noses to spite their faces. We are very lucky that cross over voting in Ohio and Texas didnt end in a Republican primary election fiasco. There are lots of good Republicans running for office at the federal and state levels on down the Republican tickets so when Republicans cross over and vote democrat they are denying election help to these same Republican candidates. We need as much Republican help in both houses of Congress as we can vote in no matter which party wins the White House.
They gave us McAmnesty and we gave them a protracted dog fight! Go ahead and enjoy the two yo-yo socialists throwing poop at each other. I’ll have a drink and watch them blunder around from the side lines kicking each other in the ass! BRAVO! BRAVO!

Did Rush Limbaugh cause chaos for the Democratic Party?
Hmm, disagree. I think it would have been “botty” for me to go to the Republican trough and vote for A)McCain and B)Pick some of the local Repubs I have almost no idea about. Instead, I chose a vote that introduced some choas for 2 of the worst of the 3 evils in this election!
Same here. There was no way I could even pick up the paper (D) sample ballot. I didn’t see any disinfectant in the voting booth area.

Am not so sure. Maybe this country needs 4 years of radical socalism and a socialist/ultra leftist SCOTUS. The voters in this country (a big percentage) are mindless. They dont even know when they are being robbed of their rights and liberties by Marxists. Maybe this is needed. What else can turn around these mindless dolts that keep voting for the left?? Just another perspective. Washington is already ignoring the Constitution, allowing our country to be overrun by invaders/foreigners ILLEGALLY and they are SUPPORTING them.
It is time the American public gets a brain, wakes up, and stops this insanity and those that are doing this to America.
>> Unless your state and federal Republican candidates are in solid safe seats, Republicans who are contemplating crossing over and voting democrat in the remaining primaries may be cutting off their noses to spite their faces.
That’s a good point, and one I carefully considered before I crossed over to vote for Obama in the TX primary.
On my (R) ballot were only unopposed or uniformly RINO with no opposition. So, what the heck.
Blaming the Republicans is a lot easier than blaming fellow democrats for any racist tendencies (which WOULD have happened were it not for Rush’s rhetoric).
Equally as easy for a Dem to claim to be a Republican.
Maybe to you, but the local call in show in Austin on KLBJ had a number of callers who bragged that they did. Even SGT Sam said he voted for her. My neighbor also did and was ticked off that his son crossed over and voted for Hussein and canceled his vote.
One caller yesterday said that he was the ONLY person at his precinct voting in the (R) primary, even though it is heavily (R) leaning. He made a statement something like: "When you walk into that polling place at 7:10 AM, and the (D) line has 40 - 50 middle aged white male businessmen in it, they are crossover voters."
>> Did Rush Limbaugh cause chaos for the Democratic Party?
I don’t think he really DID “cause” Hillary to win, even in Texas. Certainly not in Ohio.
The number of conservatives who crossed over is not knowable. Nor will it ever be known how they split their votes between O and C.
But just the idea that THEY think Rush was responsible, and it gets their knickers in a knot... that makes me smile.
After this episode of basically requesting Republicans do something legally allowable but morally wrong, I am giving up on Rush.
He now reminds me of Al Gore saying, “There was no legal authority...”
Adios, Rush. I won’t be listening to you anymore.
Carl Rove was on Fox&Friends the morning after. He said several of his acquaintances/friends called him and told him they voted for Clinton.
Cross-over voting was going on.
Millions of conservatives, including Rush, are fully aware of Hillary’s “math problem”.
“After this episode of basically requesting Republicans do something legally allowable but morally wrong, I am giving up on Rush.
He now reminds me of Al Gore saying, There was no legal authority...
Adios, Rush. I wont be listening to you anymore.”
Morally wrong? I doubt you were listening anyway.
While I understand the strategy behind it, I just don’t think I could bring myself to do it.
My boss crossed over, and showed me her voter ID card with DEMOCRATIC stamped across it. She said she was ashamed. I said she should be, and I was gonna start looking for a new job ASAP since I was afraid I couldn’t work for her anymore. ;)
You weren’t listening anyway. I’m sure you had no problem with dems crossing over and choosing McCain for us, did you?
I croosed over and did not get stamped “Democratic”. They just confirmrd my ID (thank God), and pointed me to the booths. One long, hot shower later, I was good as new!
This crossover activity brought on an idea. As we know, political parties are not in the Constitution and the two-party system even less so. Since the Republican Party is apparently disappearing as an agent of Conservatism, let’s disband and all join the Democrat Party. We would again have a voice and totally cancel out any advantages the Democrats are gaining by registering illegals and deceased people as Democrats. Something to think about.
>> My boss crossed over, and showed me her voter ID card with DEMOCRATIC stamped across it. She said she was ashamed.
I didn’t get my card stamped. I got a little paper chit instead.
I’m proud that I did what little I could to drive a stake through Hillary!s evil heart. I’m going to make up an inscription, frame it, and hang it on the wall.
Then again, I don’t need to worry that anyone will ever think I’ve gone over to the “dark side”. My life and my actions say otherwise. Your boss’s mileage may vary.
It doesn’t sound like you were “listening” in the first place. There is nothing wrong with what Rush suggested. I challenge you to prove otherwise.
If Rush couldn’t beat McCain.
How is it he can beat Hillary??
Good point. My wife and I voted for Hitlery too. It was definitely a strange feeling doing so. I did a hit of Maalox before going . . . it didn't help much.
I think it’s a despicable tactic, but Democrats have no room to whine. Turnabout is fair play.
Mrs. Clinton Threatens Rush
March 5, 2008
RUSH: “Now, Mrs. Clinton was on Fox News this morning with Steve Doocy, and Steve Doocy and Hillary had this exchange.”
At my precinct, they must have been expecting lots of crossover voters. They had a different line for crossover voters, and they had special "stalls" set up for us. That board on the toilet rocked around a bit, but it was OK I guess. Turnout was high, and I know space was tight!
Also, when we finished voting, they even had a special ballot counter for the crossover ballots! It looked like this -- was it the same way at your precinct?
How is it morally wrong to make a choice about which candidates you want to run in the general election? Obama is not qualified, Hillary is barely qualified. Obama can get the votes of the brain dead in the general election, Hillary will have a tougher time. I see no problem with making sure the brain dead don’t get their candidate elected.
Good call. I wish someone would tell me where it is written that:
1) Hillary would be more dangerous than Obama as president
2) Obama is more beatable that Hillary
3) Republicans shouldn't affect the outcome of a Democrat primary
There were some precincts - mine included - that are very heavy (R) and they had over 50% voting in the (d) primary.
I couldn't have put that card back into my wallet if it had the d - word stamped on it.
I deleted his link out of my "Favorites."
It's your loss.
Rush won't miss you, but you'll grow more ignorant and bitter over time.
Your statement assumes that Rush's audience are the "mind numbed robots" that the drive byes all call us.
Rush puts out an idea, we listen, evaluate and make our own decision.
I'm a PA resident that switched parties so that I can vote in the demonRAT primary AGAINST the bitch, regardless of what Rush advises.
I listen to his program and MAKE MY OWN CHOICES.
Your choice is to whine and not listen, kinda like demonRAT logic.
That was the stupidest thing Rush has ever done. Texas and Ohio could have finished Her Thighness off. Now she lives to fight another day, and may beat Obama. Captain Queeg is going to LOSE in November, and I’d rather have naive fool Obama as president that evil corrupt bitch Hillary. We could have finished the Clintons permanently, but Rush had to shoot his mouth off and blow it.
I agree. There is no way, no matter how much bloodshed I'd like to see among the Dims, that I would vote for that bi$ch. I love Rush, but he was wrong, wrong, wrong on this one.
I understand the arguments that it may be better for McCain to go against Hillary rather than Obama, but my gut tells me, to paraphrase another poster, 'get her out and get her out now.'
I guess you wouldn’t mind if all the Democrats crossed over and gave Ron Paul the Republican candidacy...
I personally would like to this open primary crap go by the wayside. It really irritates me that dems gave McInsane a leg up in the early primaries — I really don’t like members of other parties calling the shots on who runs in the general election for a party they are’nt a member of.
The Democrats and independents did cross over in the early states and give us McCain while those of us in the conservative base were trying to find a suitable candidate.
thank you! i have felt like a lone voice in the wilderness...
