Huckabee Prepping for 2012 Bid
Newsmax.com ^ | March 6, 2008 | Newsmax Staff

Just days after officially dropping out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination, Mike Huckabee is already making plans for a possible run for the White House in 2012.

“We want to stay in touch and start now building a platform to continue addressing issues that brought us together in the first place,” Huckabee said in an e-mail to supporters on Wednesday.

“We will keep our Web site up and as we transition, will want to create a way to keep in touch and continue the battle for our families, our freedom, and our future.”

Huckabee intends to use as a model Ronald Reagan’s efforts following his failed run in 1976 and leading up to his success in 1980, the Washington Post reports.

He plans to help GOP nominee John McCain and Republican congressional candidates gain support among conservative Christians for the November elections, “while looking for a national radio show or other forum that he can use to expand his influence within the party,” according to the Post.

Good. I hope Huckabee develops a strong small government economic message and succeeds.

This guy really doesn't get it.

Mitt withdrew OVER a month ago and the Huckster only picked up 10 more delegates. He's a whining humanist that is full of himself. He's no better than a Denomcrat. If he runs again I hope he runs under the proper party - the Demoncrats. He's just another liberal with a twist - hiding behind “religion”. His “religion” is HUMANISM. He also lies like a rug. I am thrilled he is gone. The people spoke, NO ONE WANTED HIM.

Agree!

Sign up the wife and kids with Jenny Craig and get a REAL job. He's another Clinton/Carter combo. Now he's trying to get some face time through McCain. This campaign has ALWAYS been about MIKE. If he really cared about the waitress that slipped him a $20 in the run down diner, he would have refused it. He had NO CHANCE of winning.

Medved said he was the most talented debater in the history of televised presidential debates.

Stephenopolus said he is a great talent. Even when you hit him hard he keeps smiling and gives you a good answer.

He was my guy because on social issues there was no shrinking and no flip-floping. For me if the social issue part isn’t strong the rest doesn’t matter.

I hope he returns next time.

Romney spent 60 or 70 or more million dollars (anyone know the final figures?). I bet he outspent the Republican field combined. Huckabee did all this by being an attractive candidate. You are making a mistake if you underestimate him.

I thought Mitt left off a 30 million of his own money. At most 40 million of his own money. I don’t care how much anyone spends and am not impressed or unimpressed by it. What I am more concerned about is their message and vision. Mike is a disaster. More will come out about him ... in time and that will kill any rerun. Mike is a petty, vindictive fraud.

So forty million of his own and then 30 or so million that Hillary plan health care Mitt raised. Crazy money to do nothing but blow the race for the conservatives and get McCain nominated. We’ll have 4 years before the next round or primaries, maybe 8 if McCain wins and has a successful presidency. Plenty of time for this stuff that you think is out there regarding Huckabee (that didn’t come out in a Presidential campaign where Romney and Thompson campaigns were looking for dirt on Huckabee . . . yah . . . I’m saying you are blowing hot air). My view is that all those millions just painted Huckabee in a bad light and an undeservedly bad light. Romney was a spoiler in this race . . . with only money in his corner . . .

He might try running for the senate seat in Arkansas first. Then, if he can show us a conservative record rather than just spout pleasing platitudes, I might be willing to give him a second look.

As it is, he looks like an egotistical asshat and a Judas Goat whose major role this year was to eliminate better candidates to ensure McCain got the nomination.

He also finished 1.4 million votes behind the second place candidate with with a whole extra month as the only McCain alternative!

Man, what a wacky koolaid drinker. Huckster was a shill on too many issues in the debates. Too much in the populist big-govt direction. Too Clintonesque. The best debater by far from the focus group results was Romney. He would have been a good nominee.

This guy needs to lay low for the next few months if he’s not going to help defeat the democratic candidate.

The problem isn’t that Romney had money, the problem was that he was a left wing guy who had money, and it bought him too much prominence. A guy that implemented compulsory, universal healthcare in his state should never have got any traction in the Republican primary. He did, because of his money only . . . and the net effect was to kill off the other candidates that may have had a real chance against McCain in a long campaign.

FWIW, googling Santorum still brings up something nasty.

If he runs again I hope he runs under the proper party - the Demoncrats.

You mean the Christian Democratic Party ....

That is what Hucklebee stands for ... Christian only identity politics.

Aint it amazing? Romney dropped out over a month ago, and yet Hucklebee is STILL getting trounced by Romney in the popular votes category(check Wikepedia, RealClearPolitics.com, or CNN.com)

Romney as of two days ago had 4.2 million votes to 2.7 million for Hucklebee.

And Romney is still ahead in delegates among all media outlets (except the AP) by about 272 to 265.

Hucklebee is so full of himself. He got into the race for one reason and one reason only.

To stop Romney by splitting the conservative evangelical vote.

I predicted on FR five weeks ago that Hucklebee would stay in the race until he had more delegates than Romney, so he could "claim" that his Christian denomination is more popular than Romney's Christian denomination.

People who bash money people are not good Republicans nor conservatives.

The biggest eye opener of this entire primary process was the realization that there are just as many class-envy, wealth-jealous people on the conservative/Republican side as there are on the liberal/Democrat side.

Just look at the plethora of comments on this forum and others which spearheaded their attacks on Romney by complaining he had a lot of his own money to spend.

Romney spent 60 or 70 or more million dollars (anyone know the final figures?). Mitt Romney did not spend $60 OR $70 million more. According to the FEC report through 1/31, Mitt Romney spent $98 million (of course, by Super Tuesday, he'd probably blown through the eight million he had on hand to buy advertising, so total spending was around $106 million. According to Huck's FEC Report Huckabee through 1/31 had spent $12 million, and probably with Super Tuesday and the other primaries he competed in, he spent probably another $3-4 million. So all told, Mitt Romney outspent Huckabee by about $90 million, had the endorsement of major media, and Establishment conservatives and only won 1 contested primary.

Huckabee just seems to be one of those living high off the hog of his supporters’ money. Traveling around aimlessly for the past 6 weeks all over the country and having a good time at donors’ expense. He’s probably going to be campaigining for the next 4 years, rather than doing something productive to prove his worth. Fact is, this guy can’t survive in the private sector and so he makes his living this way.

Give it up Huck..... Yeah, Huckabee we know you won more Contests than George H.W. Bush when he lost in 1980 before coming back to win the Presidency in 1988, more contests than Bob Dole won in 1988 before winning the nomination in 1996, and more contests than McCain won in 2000 before getting the nomination this year.

Yes, we know you'll get 3 or 4 times as much funds which would you make you more competive later on. Yes, we know you've got thousands of young volunteers who will work their tails off for you in 4 years to get you the nomination, but look, don't run again.

Huckabee did all this by being an attractive candidate. You are making a mistake if you underestimate him.

Huckabee received FREE liberal media coverage. He was used to isolate the evangelicals from the real conservatives and split the party. If Huckabee hadn't ran for President, he would likely have been chosen for VP. Now his political career is toast.

Actually, most of it wasn't his own money. He spent $42 million of his own, total raised $106 million.

Huckabee didn't start getting big media coverage until he took the lead in Iowa. That's why it's called earned media.
