Just one year ago, Megan Wallent's co-workers at Microsoft knew her as Michael. Then, in an e-mail sent to his entire staff, he announced that he no longer considered himself a male.
The long-time executive, in charge of the Internet Explorer division for Microsoft, underwent major feminization surgery and legally changed his gender. Wallent's wife, like his co-workers, had no idea that this guy's guy was conflicted about his gender identity. ABC's Neal Karlinksy has the story from Seattle. Read more here and view a slideshow of the transition from Michael to Megan.
Pity his wife and child.
Shame.
With Microsoft money, anything's possible, I suppose.
Silly ... woman trapped in a man’s body. The transformation was not convincing.
Thanks for calling him “he.” I get tired of the news stories about these people insisting on using “she” and “her.”
He wanted to be a girl, but they turned him into Steve Perry.
I would have told him. “If you really want to cut off your nuts and go around in heels and makeup, that’s your business but don’t get married and make a baby!”
Didn't Rush Limbaugh once claim that he was a lesbian trapped in a man's body?
After
This person is mentally ill and surgically removing a healthy body part via lopadicophamy or mutilating the same organ by addidictomy will not cure his illness.
I just don’t get it...it is not like he was a bad looking man. He must be messed up or something.

GUILTY !!!!
Bailiff ... whack his pee-pee.
I know a couple who are going through this right now. They are grandparents and he is undergoing reassignment surgery.
It turns out that he has had these feelings all his life and actually told his wife before they got engaged.
She says she thought she could change him. She was wrong.
I wonder how many women have married men knowing this sort of thing?
The whole thing may not be as cut and dried as it may seem at first glance, but is still very odd.
Could this be why Explorer freezes up up so often? No pun intended of course.
I have to ask - which counselor talked this man into this transformation? And why was he encouraged to share his decision with NO ONE in his life until he had already committed to change his gender? And is there money involved in this process?
This seems to be the most common method for these counselors to take - find a suggestible person, isolate their decision making process from their families and friends, then encourage them to commit to expensive, lifelong medical procedures (paid for by insurance) without input from anybody but those who would profit from such a decision. Considering this process, I would look into the possibility of profits - not ideology - driving this explosion of “gender confusion”.
I wonder how many of these men and women would have ever considered changing their gender without constant pressure from over-zealous “gender identity counselors”?
He’ll have to learn not to hang up his sweaters on wire hangers.
Suppose he/she had one of those chopadicktomy surgeries. Did they mark it with a black magic marker, “Cut here”

If what I just wrote made you sad or angry,
it was probably just a joke.
I guess that explains why IE is so confused and .............
All my life I have felt like a palm tree. I long for the sun and the beach and enjoy the ocean breeze.
Alas I will have to suffer in this human body until science permits me to grow bark and sprout leaves.
I’d have an extremely difficult time keeping a straight face any time this person was around.
One, he is not, and never will be, a woman. Period. He’s a transvestite. All the surgery in the world won’t change the fact that he’s a man genetically. Any steps taken to cover that fact up are just that... a deception, to him, and to others. When he goes into a woman’s bathroom, its a man in there, no matter what he’s wearing.
Two, and far more important, I feel really, really sorry for this guy’s baby son.
From a nice looking man to an ugly woman.
Used to be that cocaine was God’s way of telling you that you had too much money.
The whole thing may not be as cut and dried as it may seem at first glance
Do you think it would be....dried?
I feel sorry for his wife. She has been defrauded by this M$ nut!
Please. Put a freakin’ bag over its head. A green plastic one, for all I care
There is one problem, with using chromosomes to define sex: There are some intersex conditions, where the assigned sex (at birth) is in contradiction to the chromosomal sex.
Example: Complete Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome (CAIS). The clinical picture is a attractive young woman, who fails to begin menstruate. Physical exam reveals scanty body hair and a blind vagina, no uterus or fallopian tubes. A chromosome count reveals they are XY.
How does this happen? There is a gene on the X chromosome, locus Xq11-Xq12, that is necessary for transporting testosterone into the cell. When this gene is sufficently defective, no testosterone is transported across the cell membrane.
Example: Partial Androgen Insensitivity syndrome (PAIS). In this condition, the same gene is not sufficently defective to prevent all testosterone from entering the cell. The clinical picture is an attractive young woman, who also fails to menstruate. There is a blind vagina and no uterus or fallopian tubes. However there may be some slight clitoral enlargement, and a slight amount of body hair.
Example: Gonadal agenesis. The clinical picture is a girl that fails to enter puberty. Physical examination reveals female external genitalia, a vagina, uterus and fallopian tubes, but no ovaries. A chromosome count reveals the girl is XY. How does this condition arise? The SRY region of the Y chromosome is missing or severely defective. The gonads fail to develop. The default development, without the action of testosterone and anti-Mullerian Hormone, is female.
That ain’t the case here, baby.
They wont approve a transition with out a years worth of counseling from at least one psychologist and one psychiatrist. The fastest transition Ive seen was 4 years.
The fact is, gender councilors tend to be overly cautious because of their exposure to wrongful diagnosis suits. Thats one of the reasons places like Thailand are at the forefront of gender-reassignment. Theres no safety net in place there.
From the standpoint of news, it seems that the cases you are talking about get scant mention in the news. Maybe that is because women in the condition, do not go through the changes to turn them into pseudo men, or the men doing the changes are the only ones considered newsworthy?
Any stats on why, in my experience only men seem to be engaged in sexual transformation? Maybe for women being butch is good enough. Had a man here in my town make the transition while on the city council. As you might imagine, he/she took some heat, and bad natured ribbing for the changes.
There seems to be a growing consensus amongst neurologists that its mostly men who transition because the brunt of the problem is frequently centered in the hypothalamus.
All ovums are templates for a female, its the combination of male and female chromosomes that chose the gender of the fetal body. This chromosomal choice doesnt seem to affect how the brain develops its fundamental gender view but, rather: a few weeks after the male fetal body starts to develop, a series of hormones are sent to the brain that rearrange part of the developing hypothalamus . In female fetuses, the body doesnt imprint the hypothalamus because the ovum was female to begin with: theres nothing to change.
If the hypothalamus in a male fetus doesnt receive the MALE imprinting, or the imprinting is incomplete, a male baby is born with a female hypothalamus. In biological systems, its far more common that a signal isnt received than if a signal wasnt sent but thought to be received. Thus, its far less likely that a female body will be born with a MALE imprinted hypothalamus.
Having a female hypothalamus is not a biological disaster in a man. Hes not going to die from it. But it does create a lot of problems.
I got one of these emails when I was in grad school about 10 years ago from an instructor of one of my classes. On Friday he was a he. On Monday he would be a she. This is a guy I had worked with and known and talked with etc. etc. Definitely it throws you for a loop when you get one of these emails.
I remember one day I was working in the lab with the other guy who was a co-instructor before all this hit the fan. We said, “Well where is X” and the other instructor said “Oh he’s left already, he’s got a lot going on right now”. After I got the email I instantly flashed back on that conversation and thought - talk about understatement!
Then how do you explain all those girls with short haircuts, flannel shirts and wallets attached to chains :)
But it does create a lot of problems.
Elective surgery being one of many.
Not being there, I cannot imagine what sort of drive it would take to “inspire” me to go through such changes just because, my hypothalamus was telling me something subliminally.
I would guess there are far more males that are able to live with the voices whispering in their ear, than endure what seems to “normal” folk to be a very bad idea. The before and after being evidence thereof.
The fact that there is an industry built up to support those who desire to listen to the voices, means there are plenty of folks enough to support the industry.
Is there a test that confirms the hypothalamus imprint or lack thereof?
He’s less of a d**k, I guess.
If the behavior starts after puberty and theres little or no feminine traits, then the problems likely paraphilic Transvestic Fetishism.
Hmmm? I had to ask, and maybe that is one reason I switched from Psychology to Geography. Thanks for the explanation.
