Would you be able to add a link on the bottom of the individual thread pages to http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/posts:*/?view=brief ? Example below:

Free Republic
Articles · Comments · Search · Brief (or Briefs)

The ‘Comments’ link defaults to http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/posts:*/ and begins loading all the pictures/graphics/posts for all recent threads. Before, it used to display the Headers Only.

I tried changing my account settings, but I don’t know if you guys have gotten to that yet.

Thanks.

Working on tab memory and other such changes. Aiming for this weekend. Currently wrapped up in a big internal change (migrating server software.)

Without going through 1000 posts, can anyone tell me why I can get one page of articles in the “brief” format but when I click to go to a second page it’s suddenly in comments?

I think he’s working on having it remember what format you’re in (post above yours).

I miss the old style. :( It was easier to search and navigate. Less moving parts. More Brief.

What was wrong with just pure raw Information? That’s what makes the drudgereport so awesome. It’s just simple text and links. I miss simplicity.

*sigh* but me complaining won’t change it back.

Please, please, please bring back the old search feature. Finding posts by certain Freepers was so simple. I used it every day.

Thanks for your consideration of this matter.

I don’t go to FR nearly as often since it changed it’s look. It’s too hard to look down to the threads I want to read. I consider myself a very flexible, open-minded person. Sorry, Jim. Just am not enjoying the ease of browsing topics like I always have.

Someone once said that we should not be so open minded that our brains fall out. I don’t know how that applies to this, but I like the saying.

It didn't take me long to find all of your posts -- the search box is now at the top of every navigation page. I just entered your name, clicked "users" in the drop-down menu and then "Go". Not hard at all.

Huh?? You can customize it anyway you want, including the way it was.

Another idea....

Is there a way to do this?

Highlight the text you wish to quote in reply, hit the Reply button, and have it automatically italicized?

John, starting today FR seems to be sending the charset to be UTF-8 when I think it should be Western 8859-1. In the forum pages some characters are not being rendered correctly and switching to Western 8859-1 fixes the issue. But the HTML source specifies UTF-8.

Hi John:

I thought you could subscribe to new topics on the “MANAGE BLOCKS” page. It doesn’t work. Is there a maximum I have reached, or is this a bug?

You can click on “Configure sidebar” (down at the bottom of your sidebar) to set preferences to how the sections in your sidebar are sequenced, and how many items to include in each section, etc. For example, if you are following some hot keyword (or forum or topic or poster LOL), you can add it to your sidebar and you will easily see all new articles (or comments) posted for that forum, topic, keyword or poster.

Has this feature been discontinued on FR? I've been following the comments of a particular FReeper (which I added to my sidebar a month or so ago), but can't figure out how to add another FReeper's comments (or to delete the "Posts by FReeper X" column altogether).

There is now no way to do this when I click "Configure Sidebar". When I then click "Modify" (when in My Page Layout), it just takes me back to the Forum. Thanks...

Step 1 is to select the topic, keyword or user’s posts that you want and get it displayed on the screen. Then scroll down to the bottom and click “Add to my page.” That will add it to your list of sidebar blocks and leave you in the manage blocks program. Find the new block and move it to where you want it and configure it. That should do it.

I don’t think we have a remove block yet. Best you can do for now is disable the blocks you don’t want.

Get the topic or keyword you want loaded to the screen, then scroll down to the bottom and click “Add to my page.”
