Fear of a left socialist liberal is a huge motivator. So yes, fear plays a part.

Didn't work for GOP in 1992, 1996, or 2006.

Didn't work for the democRATs in 2000 or 2004.

I won't say absolutely that it wouldn't work, but the track record for fear as motivation to vote isn't good.
