Obama Sets Fundraising Record With $55 million
The Los Angeles Times ^ | 3/7/08 | Dan Morgan

Barack Obama raised $55 million in February, $20 million more than Hillary Rodham Clinton and a record sum for a single month in any presidential campaign, aides to the Democratic candidate said Thursday.

Obama's success reflected a sharp resurgence of Democratic fundraising. New numbers showed Republicans lagging behind their rivals and well below their efforts of four years ago. Much of the difference came from the Internet.

John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, has not disclosed his February sum, though his fundraising has been well behind that of Obama and Clinton.

The Federal Election Commission on Thursday disclosed that national Democratic campaign committees were significantly out-raising their Republican counterparts for the first time since the commission started counting amounts raised by party committees.

The Democrats' three main committees -- the Democratic National Committee, Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee -- raised $191.3 million in the 13-month period from January 2007 to the end of January 2008.

It represented a 26% increase from the same period two years ago, and an 85% jump from the same 13-month period in 2003-04.

I wonder how much Saudi oil money and oil money from their neighbors has found its way into B. Hussein Obama’s coffers

No word in there on who the donors are (it is the LAT after all), but that much certainly can’t all be coming from star struck college kids.

Money from the terrorist bar—80 lawyers defending the foreign terrorists at GITMO have contributed heavily to Obama.
He's also getting heavy contributions from American Muslims. No doubt bundled Saudi money has also found its way to Obama’s coffers. His Syrian friend Rezko is temporarily not in a position to help. Came in handy when the Obamas were house hunting, though.

McCain just sent me a fundraising e-mail. I politely turned him down. The RNC is bleeding, and Obama is swimming in cash.

Someday, perhaps they’ll wake up...

I remember when we used to hear endless bellyaching from the media and Democrats when Republicans raised this kind of money. How money was perverting politics, how we needed public financing of election campaigns.

Now that Democrats are doing it, why, it's the power of the people! Ain't it grand!

Oh, and they got public financing too.

You can get the list of every donor to national elections from the Federal Elections Commission. The monthly reports to the FEC is where the data in this article comes from.
