Because the GOP house and senate leadership became as useless as the DEM leadership who used this problem within the GOP to their full advantage especially with Bush in office. And no, Islam is not peace. I am almost sure this ROP stuff comes from a deliberate(?) mistranslation of the word Islam, that was then politicized. People mistake the word Islam from coming from salaam, which means "peace." It doesn't. The word for "to submit" is salama; to make it definite it becomes al-salama, but because of a grammar rule it's pronounced as-salama. Thus the word Islam was derived. It means "submit," not "peace," Mr. President. Learn some Arabic.
