I think you are confusing the ICRC (Illinois Center Right Coalition) with the SCC (Republican State Central Committee). The ICRC is not affliated with the SCC and is officially non-partisan. The ICRC certainly did NOT support Topinka in the primary, or in the general election. I know, I'm on the board of ICRC and helped draft the resolution against her.

The SCC was officially neutral in the 14th CD primary. However, most of the Illinois GOP "establishment" on the federal level, including Hastert, endorsed Oberweis.

Oberweis is barely winning Kendall county, Hastert and the Illinois Republican party can’t even help in Republican counties. It looks like Foster is going to win and the media will be all over this for weeks.

Oberweis never had a chance with all the ‘Rat crossovers in that primary.

“He is only holding steady, down 3,700 votes. He has to start cutting into that margin significantly.”

He’s starting to cut through the gap, with 55% reporting: now he’s down 3213 votes.

Name Party Votes Vote %
Foster , Bill Dem 31,423 53%
Oberweis , Jim GOP 28,210 47%

Interesting that Oberweis is running poorly in Aurora. Do you think his negative ads in the Republican primary had anything to do with it?

The IL SCC needs to be cleaned out completely. They are worse than useless.

Thanks for the SunTimes link. It's not looking good right now.

But there's only 55% of precincts reporting.

Thanks not cutting enough with 20% coming off the board. He now has to win more than 53% of remaining vote.

U.S. House - District 14 - Special General
Illinois - 365 of 568 Precincts Reporting - 64%

Name Party Votes Vote %

Foster , Bill Dem 35,619 53%
Oberweis , Jim GOP 31,960 47%

Foster’s picked up a little. Almost two-thirds of the precincts counted, and there’s been no significant progress.

I do think most of the rural, western counties in the district are reliably Republican. Winnebago County has a lot of RATs though, it’s home to Rockford, Illinois. I think there are some RATs in Ogle county too, it’s mostly run-down and home to a bunch of historical 1840s tours.

There is Aurora University, Hispanic communities, and black neighborhoods in Aurora. A good source of Dem votes. Oberweis’s confrontational style does turn people off, esp women. Oberweis would never have won the primary without Hastert’s support. The frustrating thing is that GOP primary turnout for the IL-14 exceeded the Dem turnout. We should not lose this race.

Oberweis needs to win this. The RNC dumped tons of cash to help this guy out.

Thanks for nothing Denny. If you weren’t going to serve your whole term the least you could’ve done is handle your succession better.

Aurora, where Oberweis is getting his can kicked, is also the home town of state Senator Chris Lauzen, who Oberweis defeated in a nasty GOP primary. If the GOP grovels enough, do you suppose that Lauzen would be willing to run again?

Obama appear in an ad for Foster. The media credit Obama with the win. The media will claim that Obama can win Red areas and bring coattails.
