It really is a civil war in the Democratic party now. The party is rent between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, between hacks and moonbats, between those who work with their hands and those who don’t work, period.
The battle, as The Economist magazine put it, pits Barack’s wine-sippers against Hillary’s beer-guzzlers. Oddly, they’re all liberals, but there are so many stark contrasts between the two wings of the party that they’re tearing each other asunder.
Barack’s voters are New Age. Hillary’s voters . . . old age.
At their respective rallies, Hillary’s voters shout, while Barack’s swoon.
Hillary voters get their coffee at Dunkin’ Donuts. Barack’s are strictly Starbucks.
If Hillary wins, her supporters are hoping for a job. Barack’s will be looking for a grant.
Clinton voters know who caused 9/11 - Arab terrorists. Obama voters know who caused 9/11 - Halliburton.
Hillary’s supporters are more or less for gay rights. Obama’s insist on transgendered rights.
Obama aides call Hillary a “monster.” Hillary aides call Obama “Ken Starr” - their definition of a monster.
Hillary’s hens drive SUVs. Obama’s peeps drive Priuses (with bicycle racks on the roof).
A lot of Hillary’s voters rely on oxygen. Barack’s rely on Oxys.
If they’re out and about in the woods in the winter, Clinton voters are riding snowmobiles. Obama’s are cross-country skiing.
Hillary at least has a few backers who like to fish. If Obama has any anglers, they’re fly fishermen, and they believe totally in “catch and release” . . . in other words, they have the same philosophy about fish that they have about violent criminals.
Eating fish? Hillary’s crew goes to Red Lobster. Barack’s people prefer sushi.
Hillary’s people are out on workers comp. Barack’s people are out on trust funds.
“It is a battle over culture,” The Economist said. “Mrs. Clinton’s supporters look at Mr. Obama’s and see latte-drinking elitists. Mr. Obama’s supporters look at Mrs. Clinton’s and smell all sorts of ancestral sins, not least racism. The two groups neither like nor respect each other.”
You saw it in the Democratic primary here last month. The split between the two candidates even came down to the way they pronounced the name of the state. Hillary, who lived here four years, pronounces it the way we do. “Massachusetts.” Barack Obama, who spent seven fun-filled years at Harvard, calls it “Massa-tu-setts.”
Hillary won Massachusetts going away. She snagged working-class Waltham; chi-chi Weston next door went heavily for Barack. The town of Watertown, split down the middle between blue and white collars, split down the middle between the candidates.
On the South Coast, Geraldo Rivera’s summer home of Marion, Massa-tu-setts came through big for Obama. Freeport, where they still begin most civic gatherings with the pledge of allegiance, is Hillary country.
Ironic, isn’t it? Once it was the Clintons who were the insurgents, the draft-dodging, pot-smoking, partial birth abortion-backing Ivy League limousine libs. Now, compared to Barack Obama’s radical-chic comrades, Bill ’n’ Hill look like refugees from the local Tuesday-night candlepin-bowling league in Billerica.
Hillary Clinton just loathed the military. Michelle Obama, an entitled elitist from Princeton and Harvard Law, hates the whole damn country.
Hillary supporters still listen to NPR. Barack voters play their iPods.
On the water, Obama voters use kayaks. Clinton supporters prefer powerboats.
Hillary vs. Barack - it’s the difference between civil unions and gay marriage, between Social Security and SSI, between football and soccer. It’s Sal DiMasi vs. Deval Patrick. It’s Ed King vs. Mike Dukakis.
Hillary’s supporters, at least a few of them, took ROTC in college. The only connection Barack’s zombies had with ROTC was picketing the armory.
Hillary supporters use the word “like” as a verb to describe something for which they have affection. Obama and his supporters use “like” as an adjective. To quote the candidate himself, “I’ve answered like eight questions already.”
Hillary vs. Barack - isn’t it a shame they can’t both lose?

The only other person I ever heard do that wasn't a person, it was a cartoon hyena--Hanna-Barbera's Hardy Har Har ("oh dear, OH my") and he used to call it "Massa-too-setts" too
But this whole place is like one big cartoon --Boston has a mayor who looks like Fred Flintstone with glasses, and sounds like Mumbles from Dick Tracy
Yeah, they will both lose. It's just a matter of which one loses first.
Howie's point here was to accurately portray Obama as the most radical Marxist the scumbag Democrats have ever even considered as a nominee, but in doing so he made Hillary sound almost acceptable. I'm certain he doesn't believe that for a second, however.

‘King of Talk Radio’

Unlike a lot of my political friends, I didn’t grow up listening to Jerry Williams. I may have heard him on those occasional clear nights when we could pick up WBZ in western Pennsylvania, but I don’t remember.
When I moved to Massachusetts, he was on TV, doing a left/right thing with Avi Nelson. It was Avi from whom I picked up my attitude toward Massachusetts politics, and when I discovered talk radio I listened to him or David Brudnoy.
Then I went to work at Citizens for Limited Taxation (CLT) and being a guest on talk radio became part of my job. But Jerry, having basically created the art form here, had left the Boston area. I didn’t meet him until he returned in the early ‘80s and I was invited to be on his new show to discuss taxes.
I was warned that, unlike most talk show hosts, he would be hostile to my point of view. He was wearing blue jeans and a denim shirt; I felt right at home and we got along fine. Looking back, I think this was because my own tax activism was more populist and libertarian than traditional conservative Republican.
As a populist, Jerry could relate to both taxpayer activists and Ralph Nader; as a classic liberal, he took freedom and limited government very seriously, though he seemed to favor gun control and welfare.
With me he argued gently, during commercial breaks. With politicians like Ted Kennedy and Mike Dukakis, he was not so gentle.
In 1989 a hostile columnist wrote a sarcastic column about Jerry, Howie Carr and me, suggesting that if we were so smart we should be governor. Jerry immediately invited us onto his show to cut taxes, expose waste, and generally reform state government. This effort became a weekly gig called “The Governors.” We had great fun with serious politics for a few years, though sometimes Jerry would lead us in a totally irrelevant direction, spending 45 minutes one day on a hilarious discussion of bagels.
Off the air he talked about his many non-political interests, among them big-band music, antiques and movies. He insisted I see “The Bear” and “My Cousin Vinny,” which were great, and “9+ Weeks”, which was awful.
He and another frequent guest, Bob Katzen, made me memorize Jewish words like “shiksa” and “meshugenah” so I would know them if I were ever called them.
Jerry indirectly introduced me to my present partner, Chip Ford, by urging him to run a petition drive against Gov. Dukakis’ mandatory seat belt law. Jerry promised Chip he would never have to do any public speaking, so naturally we met at one of the many issue forums that fall, where I was debating a state tax limit and Chip was debating the seat belt repeal while planning to strangle Jerry as soon as he found the time.
Preaching personal responsibility, they did temporarily stop the “nanny state” law, and with Dorothea Vitrac, the proposed prison in New Braintree. “The Governors” helped elect Bill Weld and Paul Cellucci in 1990, turning the direction of the state to prosperity for almost a decade.
Jerry, Howie and I thought that if people had all the facts about Beacon Hill, they would be moved to action. For awhile that was true. Then knowledge led to disgust, and disgust to apathy.
As the Big Dig grew bigger, Jerry was heard to say, “There’s no hope,” just before his retirement from WRKO. Earlier this year he returned for one last show: Bob Katzen and I were his guests one last time.
Now as I write this we are preparing to attend his wake.
A Jewish wake? Why am I not surprised?
One evening, at Jerry’s insistence, he, Howie and I were riding in a big old limousine to the Cape Cod Mall for a live appearance of “The Governors.” Jerry entertained us with the plans for his viewing.
Catholics, he said, did it almost right, with people gathered to eat, drink, tell stories about the deceased, and have a good time. But he objected to the fact that the coffin is usually set in a quiet corner.
At his wake, he told us, the coffin would be in the middle of the room. It would have a wide brim, with room for dishes of chips and veggies; and the onion dip would be stuffed in his mouth.
Maybe you had to have been there; I laughed till I cried. I’m sure the real wake will be more dignified. I also expect there will be stories about the deceased from all of us who knew and worked with the activist King of Talk Radio who was “not a bad guy” at all.
Howie’s on WVMT now. Must be the “breaking news”.
I don't think I've heard Howie this happy since the Monica story broke (I believe "lapping it up with a spoon" was the expression he used then)!

This prison meeting will now come to disorder

Muffy Healey was right - in the 2006 campaign she said that if Deval Patrick were elected governor, the murderers would be running wild again in Massachusetts.
And so it comes to pass - for the first time in years, I’m getting dimes dropped about the Lifers’ Group Inc. at MCI-Norfolk, a club of stone-cold killers. The lifers are very excited about their prospects for getting back out onto the street now that the Parole Board is filling up with the Friends of Ben LaGuer.
The Lifers’ Group, according to a statement from the Department of Correction, “is one of many inmate support groups.”
Its leaders are a couple of really nice guys. I shouldn’t recount their crimes, because on their Internet mission statement, “Who We Are,” this is what they say:
“The Lifers Group at Norfolk believes that human beings should not be defined by their worst moment.”
Speaking of worst moments, the chairman is Gordon Haas, who murdered his wife and two small children, ages 4 and 2, in 1973. Haas’ wife was black; next to her body was a note that said, “White and black don’t mix.”
The secretary of the Lifers’ Group is Kenneth Seguin. Like Chairman Haas, Seguin too has three notches on his belt - his wife and two kids. His wife was sleeping when he smashed her head with an ax in 1991 after he had slaughtered his two children.
Six murders for the top two guys in the group. The treasurer is a bit of a piker - Milton Rice only murdered his wife, down in West Barnstable, in 1993. He beat her to death with a piece of lumber, then put her body in a car and tried to make it look like an accident. It was their 18th wedding anniversary.
Then there is the “sole candidate” for Majority Camp Cochairman. That would be Bill Duclos, who was convicted of the 1989 murder of his parents. His mother was a former nun. According to newspaper stories at the time, police believed Duclos was after $35,000 in insurance money Ma and Pa had recently collected after a fire at their pig farm in Winchendon.
But why concentrate just on the leaders of the group? Sometimes more than 70 assorted killers show up for the meetings. They used to have Christmas banquets, but, as triple-murderer Haas says, “There have been roadblocks in the past, specifically leakage of information to the press and subsequent articles.”
A roadblock - that would be me, and I’m damn proud I could stand in the way of these vermin getting anything.
Let’s go straight to the minutes of the Lifers’ Group meetings, excerpts now available online for your reading pleasure. From last Sept. 4: “Lonnie Watkins began reading an excellent report entitled ‘Jailing Nation: How Did Our Prison System Become Such a Nightmare?’ ”
Lonnie Watkins: convicted of murder in the 1993 double slaying of a Madison Park high school basketball star and his cousin. Lonnie and three other gangstas took the dead boys’ gold chains.
From April 2007: “Russell Regan ... presented what Toastmasters International was and its importance of growing ones communication skills.”
Out on the street in Lowell, Regan liked to express himself by starting fires. In 1994 he was convicted of killing a 3-year-old and an 18-month old in a blaze he set “for the thrill” of it.
There is - or was - at least one good lifer in the DOC system. That would be Rus Dagenais, for whom “a moment of silence was held” at the March 20 meeting after his suicide at the prison in Shirley. He hanged himself, and I say, good riddance.
Dagenais was convicted at age 21 in 1997 for murdering his 20-year-old ex-girlfriend. Her body, bound and gagged in duct tape, was found in the Merrimack River.
This is the Lifers’ Group. And now they’re excited. They’re going to get out, they just know they are. First Arnie King, then Ben LeGuer, then who knows? Elect Deval Patrick, watch more stone killers go free to murder again and again and again.

A bloody fraternity of the state’s most monstrous killer cons are plotting their releases from prison as part of a Department of Correction-sanctioned club whose aim is to shorten its members’ lengthy sentences.
Groomed by two men who murdered their own wives and children, dozens of lifers recognized by the state as the nonprofit Lifers’ Group Inc. convene twice a month at MCI-Norfolk and - according to minutes of their meetings obtained by the Herald - have focused in the last year on:
# Lobbying outside support for abolishing life without parole.
# Starting a Toastmasters club.
# Discussing the biographies of the Parole Board’s seven members.
# Charity work, including a Walk for Hunger in their exercise yard to benefit Project Bread.
Judith Hartnett’s 21-year-old daughter Tara Hartnett was killed by Lifers’ Group Inc. director James Cyr in 1993. Convicted of first-degree murder for repeatedly stabbing the mother of his baby, then setting her ablaze after soaking her with gasoline, Cyr is not eligible for parole.
“Give them an inch, they take a yard,” railed Hartnett, 56, of South Boston. “He doesn’t deserve to live after what he did to my daughter, let alone be free.”
Parole for first-degree murder “is never going to happen,” she believes, “and if it does, (Cyr) will have me to contend with.”
Michael O’Keefe, president of the Massachusetts District Attorneys Association, wonders, “Would they prefer that we go back to the death penalty? Perhaps that could be an agenda item for their next meeting.
“I would suggest there’s no appetite for taking life without parole out of the equation,” the Cape and Islands DA said, “either in the Legislature or the public.”
State Parole Board Chairwoman Maureen Walsh would not comment.
Massachusetts Department of Correction Commissioner Harold W. Clarke released the following statement: “The MCI-Norfolk Lifers Group Inc. has existed since the early 1970s. It is one of many inmate support groups permitted by the Department of Correction. The group has a governing body led by a chairman and it meets twice monthly.”
That chairman is Gordon Haas, a former department store manager who on June 26, 1973, smothered his pregnant wife, Shirley, and toddler son and daughter with plastic bags in their Ipswich home.
Haas’ secretary is Kenneth Seguin, a computer software executive from Holliston who on April 28, 1992, drugged his son and daughter and slit their throats, heaved them in a pond, then went home and split open his wife Mary Ann’s head with an ax.
Seguin was convicted of second-degree murder and is serving three consecutive life sentences, but one day will be eligible for parole. He was given the lesser sentence after his defense attorney argued Seguin was mentally ill at the time of the killings.
Time may not be on the lifers’ sides, but occasionally they see light at the end of their tunnel. By a 5-1 vote, Edgar Bowser III, who serves on Lifers’ Group Inc.’s board of directors, was granted parole in December from his sentence for murdering Shrewsbury police officer James Lonchiadis in 1975. Bowser will be released later this year.
On Jan. 17, 2007, Bowser gave his behind-bars brethren a report on “the physical layout of the Parole Board hearing, where everyone sits and how restraints are used,” according to minutes from that meeting, attended by 72 members.
Lifers found encouraging that former cop Mark Conrad, nominated to the Parole Board by Gov. Deval Patrick, was confirmed by a 5-3 vote of the Governor’s Council, declaring in minutes from their June 19 meeting, “The vote shows that the loud cry to stop making the board a criminal justice only board is being heard.”
But Kurt Schwartz, Patrick’s undersecretary in the Executive Office of Public Safety, said, “We support the sentence of life without parole for first-degree murder. We would oppose any efforts to change that sentence.”

Our bleeding-heart liberals get a leg up on being tight-fisted

The bluer Massachusetts becomes, the stingier its ever-growing liberal majority is getting when it comes to voluntarily giving money to the state.
So far this 2008 tax season, fewer Bay Staters than ever before are checking off the box on their state income tax forms that allows them to pay at the old 5.85 percent rate, rather than at the 5.3 percent rate pushed through by heartless, mean-spirited conservatives.
As of Monday, 1.3 million state taxpayers have filed their 2007 returns. And of those, a mere 294 have decided to pay their . . . fair share. For the children.
That works out (I think) to about one-40th of 1 percent. And those 294 chumps - I mean, concerned citizens - have generated a mere $27,944 in additional revenue, which means that the average income of the donors is approximately $10,000.
By my inexact calculations, that $28G number probably means that no one single Beautiful Person has filled in the oval on line 22 to pay at the more generous, Democrat-endorsed higher tax rate.
Last year, according to the state Department of Revenue, a mere 1,208 taxpayers out of 3.3 million paid at the higher rate, generating $162,024 in additional revenue.
That 1,208 number works out to .000366 percent of all Massachusetts taxpayers, which, as pathetic as it is, is still higher than the commonwealth appears destined for this year.
I am perplexed. After all, when the proposed income tax cut was on the ballot in 2000, more than a million Massachusetts residents voted to keep the income tax at its old, higher rate. Apparently they only wanted other people to have to pay the higher rate. You can’t blame the 60 percent of us who voted to cut our taxes for not paying. The other 40 percent, though - what’s up with you people? Do you think taxes are for somebody else to pay, but not you?
The Politically Correct always inform us, a tax cut “only” amounts to so much per week.
Well, two can play at the “only” game. If you make $50,000 a year, checking the box to pay at the higher rate “only” costs you $550 a year - “only” a sawbuck and change per week. Aren’t you willing to give up a large cheese pizza per week to make sure that David Bartley can continue collecting his $140,000 annual pension?
Liberals, look at it this way - it’s “only” your federal tax rebate that you’d be giving up.
Last year I challenged every politician to tell me if they were paying at the voluntary higher rate. One elected official called - Governor’s Councilor Mary-Ellen Manning. Now I hear the hacks on the North Shore have been looking around for someone to run against her in the Democratic primary. Obviously, she doesn’t quite fit in on Beacon Hill.
This week, I called the office of Gov. Deval Patrick and Lt. Gov. Tim Murray. They’re very, very liberal, which makes it very, very unlikely they’d give you the shirts off their backs. They’d prefer to steal somebody else’s shirt, and then give it to you, in a big ceremony with TV cameras at the State House. At deadline, no one from the Corner Office had called me back. The office of Senate President Terry Murray likewise did not respond to an inquiry about whether she’ll be paying the higher tax.
I did, however, receive an answer of sorts from House Speaker Sal DiMasi. His spokesman responded to my question in an e-mail:
“Howie - The Speaker said he’ll pay the higher rate if he can trade salaries with you. Otherwise, he will pay what he is required to pay under the current law.”
Again, I ask all politicians, especially those at the State House and Boston City Hall: Let me know if you’re paying at the higher rate, for the children. I won’t promise you a column, but I’d like to know, for the record.
When the phone don’t ring, I’ll know it’s all you liberals out there.
Perfect. Nobody exposes the shameless hypocrisy of the scumbag Democrats better than Howie. When scumbag Democrat voters walk into the polling place, they vote for big government to confiscate more money... from their neighbors. I cannot think of anything more rude and selfish than that. But that's the scumbag Democrats for you....
