The Bush administration has granted Somalis living in the United States under temporary protected status an extra 18 months in this country.
It's the second such extension granted by the Department of Homeland Security in the last two years. The first one was granted in 2006 and expires later this month. The new extension will apply through September of next year.
Generally, those eligible for temporary protected status are unable to safely return to their home countries because of armed conflict, environmental disasters or other extraordinary conditions.
Senator Norm Coleman pushed for the latest extension. Minnesota is believed to have the largest Somali population of any state.
The Minnesota Republican says the extension is necessary because Somalia has become an even more dangerous place.
Hey Norm, Minnesota "has become an even more dangerous place". Just ask all the U of M students on campus that are getting rolled by the Somalis because it is a "gun free zone" and the Somalis know it.
18 month extension = let the next guy deal with it.
Typical political thinking.
Our compassionate conservatism will end up killing us.
Thanks for the extra Somalis who can join up with the 50 million illegal South of The Bordians.
Hey, U.N., seriously help to get Somalia back on its feet! They haven’t even had a form of government there since 1992! This is just one example, out of a finite number of examples, as to why the U.N. continues to be a profoundly incompetent entity!
Oh, what the heck. Might as well give them citizenship and a voter’s registration card while he’s at it.
Wasn’t there a story about a lot of Somalis taking truck driver lessons in some rural town?
I apologize for forgetting the name if the town.
Just another little "R" liberal!
Somalis are Muslims.
They’ve taken over the airport in Mpls.
Oh, c’mon, it’s not that bad. So many of them spend 8-9 months a year in “D’Jbouti” training with Islamic Courts and al Queda. They’re only here to raise money through identity theft, welfare fraud and rolling Minnesotans a small amount of the time.

I had to re-write my comments a couple of time before I felt that I wouldn’t get the big “Z”.....
Just got this in an e-mail........

Neat.
I think George Bush has lost his mind. These people should be deported immediately. They are from a thired world country and they will never blend in.They will demand that we change our society to suit them.
Norm pimping for the Jihadists now? With Republicans like that...
I just got an e-mail from Team Coleman.....
“Dear Supporters,
We’re doing some decorating around the office here at Coleman for Senate and getting together some posters for the Senator’s campaign announcement tour in a few weeks, and we thought it would be a great idea to get some pictures from Senator Coleman’s friends and supporters. Whether it’s a campaign event, a picture of you and your family with Norm, or an older photo from the last five years, or his time in the Mayor’s office, we’d like to share some memories and spruce up the office at the same time...........”
Oh, boy......
Just how much trouble do I want to get myself into???
I agree. Starting sometime around 2006, he seems to have gone on a losing streak. He's made a lot of indefensible decisions, and he sounds more muddled than ever explaining them. The border/amnesty... Israel/peace process... control of spending... support of the ever-weaker dollar... etc.
I remember on Joe’s radio show when Norm said, “If you told me I’d beat Skip Humphrey by 250,000 votes and NOT be in the governor’s mansion, I would’ve said you’re nuts...”
A classic quote.
Now, who’s nuts??
I have one...perhaps he has some constituents in this picture...
I was thinking about going out to the airport and getting some photos of some cabbies smoking khat.
Is their flight training taking longer than expected?
I, for one, wouldn’t be surprised......
