In the 3 pm hour, in the first blush of the prostitution revelations against liberal Gov. Eliot Spitzer of New York, MSNBCs experts quickly described the scandal as a nothing-burger. Alan Dershowitz attacked America for being a "pandering society and hypocritical society," since this wouldnt even make the back pages of a newspaper in sophisticated Europe. "Big deal, married man goes to prostitute!" Dershowitz also blamed "men" (as a group) for thinking with their private parts. Tucker Carlson agreed with that line, and said that Spitzer is sleazy, but this is "one of the least sleazy things hes done."
About 13 minutes into the hour, Contessa Brewer brought on Dershowitz for his reaction, explaining at one point that Dershowitz taught Spitzer at Harvard. He sounded quivering and emotional:
I have two reactions. One, I feel terrible for Eliot and his family. But I feel that this is a America-only story that we have to put in perspective. You know, big deal, married man goes to prostitute! In Europe, this wouldn't even make the back pages of the newspaper. It's a uniquely american story. Were a uniquely, you know, pandering society and hypocritical society, when it comes to sex.

Wonder what they’ll say when it transpires that he was using public money for these purposes. Not to mention the Mann Act problems . . . . . after all, it’s the corruption division of the AG’s office that’s investigating . . . .
Somehow I’ve gotten through almost 4 years of marriage without seeing a prostitute. I must be a freak.
Isn't that special?
Spitzer likes bush.
Same arguments that were made during Lewinsky days. Lets lower the values and expectations for ENTIRE society, so couple of scumbags can be saved!
Spitzer is no Klinton. Saving him won’t be so easy.
Dershowitz also blamed “men” (as a group) for thinking with their private parts.
Speak for yourself Dershbag.
“But I feel that this is a America-only story...”
You would feel that way if you were morally bankrupt.
Do they teach a course on adultery and prostitution at Harvard Law? It’s a big deal if you have money and property. About 50%.
Gotta agree with Tucker here. Spitzer is the very definition of the word sleaze.
Maybe this time he went too far and will be booted from office. One can hope.
So, now we get an idea of what Alan does for fun ~
Make that 18 years for me. I must be some sort of mutoid.
I don’t think it would hurt them overall. It could in NY, but this is shaping up to be Dems’ year, and NY is their Heartland - they won’t skip a beat. JMO.
Maybe Spitzer should get the “Father of the Year” award.
Congrats, 29 years for me.
It's just sex, and it's none of your business.
Given Spitzer’s wealth I don’t think he was using public money, but he was on the public’s business when doing it.
I suspect Dersh wouldn't have such a cavalier attitude if his spouse got caught in a prostitution ring.
MY EYES!
But the New York taxpayers seem to be rather dense . . . at least the ones who vote for the likes of Spitzer and Hillary. It isn't like both of them hadn't demonstrated what sort of people they are long ago . . . .
How about the fact that paying prostitutes is a crime in New York and that Spitzer is a public official? Also, he may have violated banking laws in paying them.
If Derschewitz thinks this is no big deal, why hasn’t he tried to get prositition made legal in NY? Spitzer wasn’t shacking up with a mistress, he was violating the laws of a state he represents by paying for sex acts. It isn’t prudish or puritanical to expect a high-ranking governmental to obey the law.
He knowingly utilized the services of an organization that he knew was illegal, laundered money and payed no taxes. He can't hide behind that.
Nah, just a prude and sexually-repressed victorian-era lying hypocrite. You liar. ^_^
Rich people stay rich by being cheap on little things. And a couple grand may be a little thing for him.
The socialist/marxist left are an amazing bunch of
retards to observe.
This holier than thou Spitzer prosecuted prostituion rings
in the past, intimidated people by actually yelling into
their faces,Im a f*****g steamroller, and Ill roll over
you!
This guy should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of
the law.
Or a Republican.
I don't think this is going to hurt Spitzer among Democrats at all. They'll run him for president next time around.
I just learned more about Dershowitz than I cared to know. And Carlson as well.
How silly of us to think it is of value to be loyal to wife and family, and to not violate your vows and our laws. We’re just so silly.
Dershowitz doing what liar lawyers do best... triangulate and spin. If Spitzers adultery with a prostitute was such a non-factor then why did he come out and publicly acknowledge it? The law may have more indictments on him to come as a speculation.

Or Obama's VP pick.
Now, what I was up to in between marriages is a whole other sack of marbles. LOL
The pundits are wrong. This is a big deal and fatal. Eliot Spitzer was a notorious Prosecutor and giant hypocrite. People are giddy with joy about his predicament. Schadenfreude is too weak a word for it.
Will Spitzer now legalize prostitution and clear the records of all those arrested for it? What gets me is that the donks see no hypocricy whatsoever in Spitzer cracking down on prostitution and then hiring a prostitute himself.
It seems the greater the scandal, the greater the failure, the greater the Democrat hero. Not sure why, other than a knee jerk favorable reaction to all things socially damaging.
$4400 hundred is a lot. I think you can buy a Hyundai for that...
“Nah, just a prude and sexually-repressed victorian-era lying hypocrite. You liar. ^_^”
Don’t forget we are also repressed, judgmental, narrow-minded sadistic bible thumpers, and for dessert:
HOMOPHOBIC in that we fear not just homosexuals, but the innate fact that deep down all men are REALLY queers, dontcha know.
And race and sex (i.e. gender) and environment and oil drilling and class envy and religion.
She must have been fiiiiiiiiiiine.
What was he doing now? Undercover work? A sting? LOL.
sw
Oh my. Does she have her face pressed against a window?
"Last time I saw a mouth like that it had a fish hook in it!" - R. Dangerfield
Well, what he did is illegal. He should resign.
But $44 hundred is not, not for somebody as wealthy as Spitzer.
I wouldn't be surprised if he stuck the taxpayers with the bill. You gotta think like a rich person! (I don't find it easy, but I spend a lot of time dealing with other folks' money and you sort of get a feeling for the mindset.)
Careful now, you don’t want to offend the teeming multitudes of FReepers who’ve been hitting the cathouse for years...
This reaction is way out of line if some serious Federal law has been broken.

Ditto! I have gone 26 years without seeing a prostitute and another 10 as a teenager and young adult without seeing one.
You would think a Harvard educated man would be smarter than this.....
Also, who is Derchowhitz kidding about the back pages of a “sophisticated Europe” It seems every scandal I have seen from Europe is always on their front page rags... From the Princes to the French PM....
