Early MSNBC Pundits Defend Spitzer, Lash Out at Prudish America
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/tim-graham/2008/03/10/early-msnbc-pundits-defend-spitzer-lash-out-prudish-america ^

Posted on 03/10/2008 4:27:32 PM PDT by chessplayer

In the 3 pm hour, in the first blush of the prostitution revelations against liberal Gov. Eliot Spitzer of New York, MSNBC’s experts quickly described the scandal as a nothing-burger. Alan Dershowitz attacked America for being a "pandering society and hypocritical society," since this wouldn’t even make the back pages of a newspaper in sophisticated Europe. "Big deal, married man goes to prostitute!" Dershowitz also blamed "men" (as a group) for thinking with their private parts. Tucker Carlson agreed with that line, and said that Spitzer is sleazy, but this is "one of the least sleazy things he’s done."

About 13 minutes into the hour, Contessa Brewer brought on Dershowitz for his reaction, explaining at one point that Dershowitz taught Spitzer at Harvard. He sounded quivering and emotional:

I have two reactions. One, I feel terrible for Eliot and his family. But I feel that this is a America-only story that we have to put in perspective. You know, big deal, married man goes to prostitute! In Europe, this wouldn't even make the back pages of the newspaper. It's a uniquely american story. We’re a uniquely, you know, pandering society and hypocritical society, when it comes to sex.

Wonder what they’ll say when it transpires that he was using public money for these purposes. Not to mention the Mann Act problems . . . . . after all, it’s the corruption division of the AG’s office that’s investigating . . . .

NBC did not mention Spitzer was a Democrat.

Same arguments that were made during Lewinsky days. Lets lower the values and expectations for ENTIRE society, so couple of scumbags can be saved!

Spitzer is no Klinton. Saving him won’t be so easy.

Do they teach a course on adultery and prostitution at Harvard Law? It’s a big deal if you have money and property. About 50%.

Gotta agree with Tucker here. Spitzer is the very definition of the word sleaze.

Maybe this time he went too far and will be booted from office. One can hope.

I suspect Dersh wouldn't have such a cavalier attitude if his spouse got caught in a prostitution ring.

If I were a New York taxpayer, I would say that it's MY money, and that makes it MY business if he's buying hookers on my dime.

But the New York taxpayers seem to be rather dense . . . at least the ones who vote for the likes of Spitzer and Hillary. It isn't like both of them hadn't demonstrated what sort of people they are long ago . . . .

How about the fact that paying prostitutes is a crime in New York and that Spitzer is a public official? Also, he may have violated banking laws in paying them.

If Derschewitz thinks this is no big deal, why hasn’t he tried to get prositition made legal in NY? Spitzer wasn’t shacking up with a mistress, he was violating the laws of a state he represents by paying for sex acts. It isn’t prudish or puritanical to expect a high-ranking governmental to obey the law.

I mean, at worst, he's a john, he's a customer. And a customer can't be held responsible for whether or not the ring pays their taxes or launders money. I mean, let’s not take him beyond what his level of accountability is.

He knowingly utilized the services of an organization that he knew was illegal, laundered money and payed no taxes. He can't hide behind that.

retards to observe.

This holier than thou Spitzer prosecuted prostituion rings

in the past, intimidated people by actually yelling into

their faces,“I’m a f*****g steamroller, and I’ll roll over

you!”

This guy should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of

the law.

Dershowitz doing what liar lawyers do best... triangulate and spin. If Spitzers adultery with a prostitute was such a non-factor then why did he come out and publicly acknowledge it? The law may have more indictments on him to come as a speculation.

Will Spitzer now legalize prostitution and clear the records of all those arrested for it? What gets me is that the donks see no hypocricy whatsoever in Spitzer cracking down on prostitution and then hiring a prostitute himself.
