Added the ability to make a sidebar on the left of the page, as well as place boxes at the top and bottom of the page. You'll also be able to add your bookmarks using the Manage Blocks page.
you are amazing. Thanks!
Thanks for the update and a better place......
Can you please increase the size of the fonts on the second and third line of thread titles?

Sidebars on the left and right = SWEET!
Any chance of having the latest posts on a continuous scroll like at Free Dominion?
John, could you fix the sidebar links so they’ll open new tabs? They’ve lost that ability lately.
I no longer see what forum each story is in. (News, Chat, Religion, etc.)
Sometimes before posting a story, I will search to see if it belongs in News or Chat.
For instance, the San Francisco Zoo / Tiger mauling stories could have gone either in News or in Chat (which is where they ended up).
In the past we could search “tiger zoo” and see that the moderators desired them in chat by making note of which forum they ended up in.
The new format makes it more of a guessing game for those news articles in the ‘grey area.’
Anyway, nice changes overall.
Thanks John! I’ve been waiting for you to put up a thread about the changes here at FR. I’m very impressed with the way you are doing subtle enhancements that keep the style and flavor of Free Republic intact.
Well done, many thanks, and keep up the great work!!
Thanks for making the best web site in the world even better!
It is possible to create “Browse by Forums” for:
Many of my favorite threads are those related to these topics and I suspect many others feel the same.
Woohoo! my suggestion made it! thank you very much. Now, I’d like a pony ... but not a silky one. :)
Good stuff! It was a little rough for me at first, but I’m liking it more and more.
Thank you! My sidebars just appeared today since the start of the updates. I’m liking the changes more and more.
Cool! New playground!
Might be good to have a Default Settings button on the Manage Blocks page so you if you botch the weightings or get confused you can start over.
Even Free Republic wants change. Let’s all go out and vote for Obama!
Guess I should hit the spell check sometimes.....
I’ll second that.
I protest, not unless it’s user selectable. If it’s not done right, it can be a processor hog, and even hang older systems, (like Macromedia Shockwave Crash). Not all of us have the latest whiz-bang machines.
Looks great! Much better than the old version!
While you are at it digging in the innards, can you add a edit function?
Cool - thanks!
You have been a busy bee.
My Against Obama/Hillary is at 140% now ,YYYYEEEEEEEEHHHHHAAAAAWWWWWW
I'd still like to see a US flag and maybe an eagle graphic. And for me personally the ability to change the background from white to something softer.
But that's all nitpicking. Great job and thanks again!
Really nice. Thanks.
In Safari, set your Tab preferences. I just Command Click on a link and it opens in a new tab. No changes needed to the web site.
Seems like back in the day, the management tried a flag background. I remember it looking really good.
as long as you have added the tabs, how about making one of them “latest post to you” instead of having the link at the top? or maybe make it into sidebar?
Great work, Jim. The best is even better.
I’m puzzled, though, why I can only post a new article if I’m reading an article. How come users can’t post articles anymore from the main page.
Also, how about updating the “Hot Topics” list? Anthrax hasn’t been a hot topic for years. “Global Warming” is the really hot topic now.
With all these option I need a 2nd monitor.
John (or anybody). How do you find what a particular FReeper has posted...that dropdown menu by keyword, by poster, by title...what happened to it.
Yeah, but you already have the option here in your User Preferences to open in either the same window or tab or the links open a new one, which doesn’t work now (it’s still working okay in the main body, the white section).
Thank you. Nice user interface.
In the area of functionality, I really need an “ignore user” and “stop-FReepmail-and comments-from-user”.
Heck, why not throw in a self “account is banned or suspended” option for when we really get fed up. Give us the option of one week, two, permanent opus, etc.
This has gotten very, very confusing. Thanks for making it so I could access Keywords and users though, which I hadn't been able to do untill you fixed it for those who have java disabled.
I just wish there was a ‘search’ (By date/or relevance) link on the comments page.
I have to go to a post to get that type of search.
Not exactly, but thanks. How do I find you, jdm, and all of the great comments you make in the forum (it used to be at the top...in the middle...with a dropdown menu)
I would love to se an “ignore post” option also. For example, in the case of that lamp post thing the last few days I had no desire to even see the title.
FR is looking great, John! Thanks for all the work you put in to the greatest conservative spot on the Net.
Up in the top right had corner is an oblong box with the word Go next to it. Click on the box then a drop down menue will appear. It will say keyword, user, etc. Click on user. Then in the box type in the users name.
“More” has been renamed to “Account”. You can find Manage Blocks there. Manage blocks is also on the sidebar but is labeled “Configure Sidebar”... probably need to change that now.
Most totally awesome!
