That would be Mark Pryor, first-term Democratic incumbent, running in a reliably red state.
[T]he Republicans inability to field any Senate candidate in a Southern state that twice favored Republican George W. Bush for president this decade is yet another blow for a party that lost six seats and its Senate majority in 2006, and is mainly playing defense against further Democratic gains this year.
Having missed the filing deadline, any Republican who might belatedly decide to run against Pryor would have to do so as a write-in candidate
Pryor becomes the first senator to draw no opponent from the other major party since 2006, when Indiana Republican Richard G. Lugar enjoyed a free ride in his campaign for a sixth term.
Be sure to take a moment to send an e-mail to the NRSC to thank them for the bang-up job they did here in making the Democrats work for their majority. Exit question: You-know-who got the last laugh after all, didnt he? Heart-ache.
Update (Ed): Beyond the disappointment of the storys subject matter, I have to marvel at the writing. Pryors the first Senator to run unopposed
since 2006? How many elections is that? Answer: none. When Lugar ran unopposed in 2006, did people write that he was the first since 2004?
Gee, I wonder who could’ve challenged Pryor...
Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory for a long, long time now.
The Stupid Party has been promoted to the Immensely Stupid Party.
He is Senator for life. Arkansas has a very poor little Republician party. Plus Pryor is just Conservative enough to split the baby most of the time.
If Huckabee wants the Senate, this is not the year. 2010 is with Blanche Lincoln up. At this point, he can pick his race. Even if he won this time, there’s no way the GOP would have someone to challenge Linoln.
Tell me again how our favorite RINO McAmnesty is going to win in 2008?
I sure hope Jeff Sessions is getting plenty of rest in preparation for a 4 year filibuster.
I wonder why Mike Huckabee didn’t give it a try? Perhaps because he couldn’t win? He wouldn’t do that, would he? Wait a minute, didn’t he do that with McCain?
Huckster’s job was to make sure the AR GOP was crippled and shrunk to pre-1966 levels. Mission accomplished.
It's like taking candy from a stupid baby...
He didn’t give it a try because he didn’t want to. At this point, he’s finished a long campaign. Should McCain not win in 2008, a Senate seat would make running for President hard to impossible as the same folks who attacked for going off to make speeches attack him for campaigning and not being in Washington to vote.
Just more excuses.
How about our so-called leaders trying to put the well-being of the party above their own desires or agenda’s for a change?
Not just Pryor. The Republicans didn’t even field challengers against Ross, Berry, or Snyder. A total collapse all around. I don’t even think the GOP had it this bad in Massachusetts.
Why not Mitt Romney. He's got 3 home states, this could be his 4th.
Note to self: If you can find work in Arkansas’ 4th district, you could go to Congress.
Where the H E double hockey sticks is HUCKABEE???!??
What are the chances the Dems can win enough Senate seats to get to fillerbuster proof 60?
