The accusations that New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer patronized a high-priced call girl tarnishes, if not undermines, the Democrats' attempt to portray the Republican Party as the party of corruption in this year's elections, even as it probably ends his own political career.
The stunning confession yesterday by Mr. Spitzer, who had built a national law-enforcement reputation by prosecuting corrupt financiers on Wall Street, turns him into the most prominent political figure in the country to emerge in a recent string of personal and political scandals. Those scandals had seemed to catch more Republicans and led to steep losses for the party in the 2006 elections.
"I don't know how he survives this," said New York political pollster John Zogby.
"Real men make real mistakes, but he never allowed for that when he was prosecuting people on Wall Street. He's wide open to charges of hypocrisy," Mr. Zogby said.

Democrat culture of corruption BUMP!
You are too nice. I don't believe the Democrats have any standards at all.
Point taken. No argument here!!!
Another democrat officer of the law bit the dust? Gov. Spitizer is no Eliot ‘Ness’ anymore.
Can’t the democrats do anything right this year?
True, they have had their troubles in the past with Zipper Clinton, but according to a dem. political commercial that was in the past and we are looking at the future.
How can they acheive the future when the Clinton past is on replay?
This scandal could benefit Obama in that more and more he’s running as an agent of change not just from the Bush family, but also from the Clinton clan. The Spitzer scandal should remind Democrats of how their agenda can go up in flames because of a Clintonesque scandal like this. The irony is that Hillary would be in much better position if she was divorced right now. Instead, she’s married to someone who has opened himself up to blackmail probably hundreds of times going all the way back to Arkansas.
They can't, which explains part of Obama's success. Democrats, independents and even some Republicans have flooded voting and caucus sites this year to send a message. I don't know what's worse - when Bill Clinton's zipper is open or when Bill Clinton's mouth is open. His zipper caused Al Gore to lose in 2000. His mouth may cost Hillary from winning in 2008.
First let's get the proper candidates selected.
"Mississippi Primary March 11, 2008"
It seems that Spitzer has taken a wide stance when it comes to Ethics Violations, now...
The theme song at the Dem convention will be the old goody “Love Potient Number.”
Maybe Gov. Spitzer can swap jobs with Sen. Craig of Idaho. I mean gay public restroom sex is probably celebrated in New York, while there's a long tradition of brothels and prostitutes in the Old West.
What about the Party of David Vitter and Larry Craig?
If the GOP does not have double standards why is it those two creeps are still in the U.S Senate?
The problem is with the power of politics and both parties have filth as members and both parties circle their wagons around those members if it is possible.
The only way I'll buy into that conspiracy theory is if Kristen turns out to be the Obama girl from the music video.
And what about the word BLACKMAIL. Why is the MSM so afraid to do stories on how politicians in both parties are vulnerable to blackmail. We live in dangerous times. Foreign countries have spies. There are secrets and favors they'd love to receive from us. The first thing that should pop in voters' minds when they hear about a scandal like this is BLACKMAIL.
David A. Paterson (born May 20, 1954) is an American politician and the current Lieutenant Governor of New York. He is the first African American and legally blind person to hold this position. He was selected as running mate by New York Attorney General and Democratic Party nominee Eliot Spitzer in the 2006 New York gubernatorial election.
Paterson was born in Brooklyn in 1954, with no sight in his left eye and severely limited vision in his right. He has optic atrophy. Paterson received a BA from Columbia University in 1977 and later his law degree from Hofstra Law School. After law school, he went to work for the Queens District Attorney’s Office.
In 1985, he joined the campaign staff of David Dinkins for Manhattan Borough President. In October of that year, longtime state Senator Leon Bogues, representing a district covering Manhattan neighborhoods Harlem, Manhattan Valley and the Upper West Side, died and Paterson won a highly competitive New York (Manhattan) County Democratic party Committee selection process to serve the rest of Bogues’ term. The following year, 1986, he won the seat for his first full term representing the 29th District in the New York State Senate.
Paterson is the son of former New York Secretary of State Basil Paterson, who was the first African American NYC Deputy Mayor and the first to run for statewide office in New York. Secretary Paterson was the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor in 1970. The elder Paterson also served in the NY state Senate in the same seat his son occupied. The elder Paterson was also the first African-American vice-chair of the national Democratic Party.
This should be good for a few laughs.
Don't you understand that Democrats can betray someone that they have sworn an oath to like a wife, but will be faithful to an oath of office?
Don't you understand that Democrats sexual adventures are personal and not for public discussion, but Republicans, whether Senators who frequent airport restrooms or have vicious divorce battles with former StarTrek actresses must step down for their actions?
As it states in Animal Farm, all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others. I guess Democratic Party Politicians are more equal than Republicans.
Both David Vitter and Spitzer should resign,
However, Democrats will stand by Spitzer just like Republicans stand by David Vitter who was also caught with and admitted to paying for the services of a prostitute.
