WASHINGTON (AFP) - The US dropped China from its list of the world's worst human rights violaters, but added Syria, Uzbekistan and Sudan to the alleged offenders in an annual report released Tuesday.

The State Department's 2007 Human Rights Report showed China, which has raised hopes it will improve human rights by hosting the 2008 Olympics, had parted company with countries like North Korea, Myanmar and Iran.

The USA is no longer the “shining city on a hill” when we ignore the wholesale oppressions carried out by the ChiCom regime against its own people.

And China still enjoys its "most favored nation" trading status while it sponsors online attackers against our defense and infrastructure.

Gah! ANNOYED!

Imprisonment, torture, and execution of people for being Christians no longer counts as a “human rights offense”. Only laws that don’t allow two guys to pretend to be husband and wife. Get with the program.

More pandering by the White House to globalist corporate interests.

Bush is disgusting. His cronies in BOTH politial parties in Washington who are part of the Globalist Conspiracy are disgusting.

There is no depth to which this administration is incapable of sinking when it comes to pandering to inernationist interests at the expense of America and the American public.

It is very disappointing to note how we look the other way with China. The idea we would use the Olympic hosting to convey anything other than a propaganda attempt, confirms what those of us said who opposed the very idea in the first place. China will use this to their advantage, as if it were anything other than what it is, a pariah state cruising for a bruising in upcoming years.

Our national leadership is so disappointing these days.

I for one can't wait till this administrations term ends.I have seen nothing that would make me want to vote for a Republican in quite some time.

I have had it with the surrendering attitude i have seen in President Bush.

The Economy is going in the can and all we have is the War in Iraq to look forward to.

The “war on terror” How do you like that? The Bush administration does’nt even have the courage to call it what it really is. A war on Islamic Fascism.

I know this is an excerpt, but the very next line says that China still has a poor human rights record; they're just saying that it's not quite as bad as a few others.

I might disagree with that, but it's not time to panic and pull your hair out, as some are doing.

But see, it wouldn’t matter if they improve. Hell, it wouldn’t matter if they threw out the commies and elected a freedom loving government. They’re the enemy. Don’t you get it? :-)

I’m actually trying to figure out if I care about this, if it means anything at all.

Chin was dropped from the list of human rights abusers. If not near the top, at the very least they should be on it. Unless of course you have proof that the gulags in Tibet are now closed.

I don’t really know, to be honest. I don’t know if there’s a status that would be more advantageous in the long run than MFN. Perhaps there is.

But something I’m pretty sure of is that capitalism is killing communism in China. It simply will not survive there as people find more economic success, and inevitably more freedom. It’s unstoppable now.

Isolation from the world was what let the disaster of communism become the human rights catastrophe that it was.

IMHO.

It says right there in the headline that they were dropped from the list of "top human rights abusers," not the list of "human rights abusers."

No, they shouldn't have been dropped from any list, in my opinion, but the real story is not quite as apocalyptic as people are suggesting.

No, they dropped out of the top ten. Now, whether this "ranking" means any more than an MTV web based survey is one thing. But what it does quite likely mean, TOO, is that there are a number of places around the world that are getting WORSE. Note the growing presence of Arab, African, and Middle Eastern countries on this "list".
