There’s no way that his wife didn’t know about it if he’s been doing it for that long.
Spitzer aroused suspicion when he tried to divide up a large financial transaction of over $10,000 into smaller amounts to avoid federal reporting requirements.
The governor then tried to have his name removed from the smaller wire transfers but his bank refused - and alerted authorities that something fishy was going on.
I have no interest in what a politician does in this regard, however, what amounts to the chief law enforcement officer of a state cannot flout the laws. He has to go.

I don’t know that he needs to ROT in prison. I’d settle for a felony plea (and resulting loss of voting rights), a short time in jail and a long probation.
