Well, I posted the following, yesterday. I'm right so far. Hoping that I'm wrong on the Hillary!, piece, though.

My completely unsolicited $0.02?

Spitzer resigns. Hillary! gets her butt handed to her by Obama in the rest of the primaries.

Thus, Hillary! is available to run in the inevitable re-election for NY Governor. Gives her a graceful way of bowing out of the '08 election, while maintaining (maybe expanding?) her power base. And, leaving her open for a later run in 2012.

Makes me think about who leaked what, and to who. And when.

PRIVATE FAILINGS???

I guarantee you, when all is said and done in this investigation you are going to find way more than PRIVATE FAILINGS... this guy got snagged by Feds investigating indiscrepencies in government accounts and money laundering.

While the use of prostitutes may be a private failing... and I have complete sympathy for this jacka$$’s daughters.. .there are 3 girls who will never be able to truly trust a man in their lives thanks to daddy’s selfishness... There is no atonement he can possibly do to make up for the failings he has done to these girls.... The rest of the stuff that’s around this is not in any way “private”, there is way more to this coming folks.. I’d bet the farm on it.

It’s an interesting theory, but under NY Law, the Lt. Governor will serve out the remainder of Spitzer’s term, which expires at the end of 2010.

This investigation has been going on for a while. I believe it started BEFORE Clinton was considered D-Inevitable, when she didn't consider Obama a threat.

Perhaps the timing of going public is suspicious. But, Spitzer was one of her committed super-delegates, who reportedly won't be replaced.

If Clinton were to run for governor of NY in 2010 she would once again find herself running in a Democratic primary against a black man with much higher personal likability - and this time that man would be a sitting incumbent.

I assumed that there was some sort of law on succession, but I didn't know that he was in until 2010. Still, I wouldn't rule out the Lt. Gov being found with a dead girl. Or a live boy. Or, just suffering from a case of Arkancide. Or, stepping aside "For the Good of the party" to avoid one of the three aforementioned alternatives.

And yes, I *do* have a tailormade tinfoil hat. Keeps Hillary! from controlling my mind. LOL!

FAVE DAVE: David Paterson, at home outside Albany yesterday, has a strongly liberal voting record but is highly regarded by pols of both parties as a conciliator.

PATERSON'S '06 MISFIRE PUSHED BAN ON COP 'SHOOT TO KILL'

By KENNETH LOVETT Post Correspondent March 12, 2008 -- ALBANY - The man who could be governor, David Paterson, once sponsored highly controversial legislation in the state Senate requiring police to shoot to harm, not kill.

The current lieutenant governor, a Democrat from Harlem, also pushed a bill that would have allowed non-citizen residents to vote in local elections. (snip)

“Makes me think about who leaked what, and to who. And when.”

BINGO!!!

This was my suspicion too. HRC knows she’s tanking in the primaries. This is a calculated move by the HRC inner circle and is based on meeting/not meeting certain delegate and poll critera along set stop points in the campaign.

The make-nice, let’s be partners with Obama, schtick was the smoke screen while all this was going down in the backgroud. And the Barack WTF noise in response was the gas on the fire. Makes it look real.

This all sets her up to “legitimately” answer the call of her stricken State and saves face for the 2012 run. She know she lost and probably wont spend much $$ for the duration of her campaign. She will sabotage Obama at every turn for the shot at 2012.

It has been decided. McCain will be our next President.

He will serve a single term and she’ll be back in for her final hunt in 2012.

That totally fits in with what I heard on FNC - that David Paterson is more interested in becoming a U.S. Senator than governor.

Here's my prognostication: Hillary will resign as Senator, Paterson will appoint himself to fill her spot, then she runs as governor, which she would win in a landslide.

Everyone's talking about how this hurts Hillary, but no way. Her consolation prize for losing the Democrat primary could be the governorship of NY state, keeping the state of NY out of Republican hands.

I agree. The tremendous level of scrutiny this received from federal law enforcement officials, over a very long period of time, and despite rather small amounts of money involved (at least that we’ve heard about so far), suggest that they bumped into other topics of interest early on. Other dealings of “QAT” and the man behind it may be the serious law enforcement story here.

Not surprised, but I can say with all honesty that I had *no idea* what his party affiliation was until I found it on FR.

I suspect that would not have been the case if he had a (R) after his name.

#1, promising to step down in the future is *not* the same thing as resigning

#2, Hillary still needs to show her “leadership” by commenting on the man she endorsed for Governor of NY...

NY Gov. Eliot Spitzer resigns 5 minutes ago

NEW YORK - Gov. Eliot Spitzer announced Wednesday that he is resigning, completing a spectacular fall from power for a politician whose once-promising career imploded amid allegations that he paid thousands of dollars for high-end prostitutes.

“I look at my time as governor with a sense of what might have been,” Spitzer said, with his expressionless wife Silda standing at his side. “There is much more to be done, and I cannot allow my private failings to disrupt the people’s work.”

Spitzer says his resignation is effective Monday. He will be replaced by Lt. Gov. David Paterson, who will become New York’s first black governor.
