OIC Wants 'Binding Legal Instrument' to Fight Islamophobia

An international humanist organization has warned that Islamic governments are trying to use the United Nations to shut down free speech. The warning comes as a bloc of Islamic states is holding a summit with "Islamophobia" high on the agenda.

The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) on Thursday began a meeting in Senegal, with the shadow of Danish cartoons satirizing Mohammed and a Dutch lawmaker's film criticizing the Koran hanging heavily over the gathering.

The 57-member bloc is considering a report by a new body set up to monitor instances of what many Muslims view as growing prejudice against them and their religion, particularly in the years since 9/11.

Warning that Islamophobia poses a threat to global peace and security, the 58-page report by the "Islamophobia Observatory" examines the reasons for the perceived trend -- exemplified by stereotyping, hostility, discriminatory treatment and the denigration of "the most sacred symbols of Islam" -- and suggests ways to combat it.

The recommended steps include a range of responses, including monitoring of and responding to incidents, and a campaign to show Islam to be a "moderate, peaceful and tolerant" religion.

One way to fight Islamophobia is if real peace keeping Muslims would speak out against their militant bretheren. Another way to fight it would be for those radical monsters to stop blowing up innocent people.

As long as we respect the Constitution, we don't have to worry about it happening here.

The US Constitution doesn't give Congress the authority to enforce that kind of restriction, so they don't have to authority to agree to it by treaty.

Can you say, “McCain-Feingold”?

Can you say, “Geraldine Ferraro”?

Politically Correct speech is becoming institutionalized and even the SCOTUS didn’t strike down McCain-Feingold.

Political Speech is PRECISELY what the 1st Amendment guarantees, but somehow the SCOTUS thinks that it only protects pornography and flag burning.

How about a self critical evaluation of the Islamics’ OWN loathsome 7th century barbaric behavior as a reason for the growth of hostile anti Islamism?!!!

I did say "as long as we respect the Constitution".

As long as we let Congress keep abusing the Commerce Clause to trump the BoR, this will keep on happening.

Of course the mookies are entirely devoid of prejudice. Even the jihadists don’t single out Christians or anything, or use hateful words like Crusaders. I’m prejudiced against those people. I learned to doubt them over the last thirty years of incessant rampage, murder and mayhem.

. ..and as well, how about Liberal Judges bypassing a constituency; ignoring our Constitution - or reinterpretating it; so as to serve a Leftist agenda. And what would the Supreme Court look like after a few years of 'Obama or Hillary' refashioning SCOTUS?

We cannot 'worry not'.

Violent Jihad/War is REQUIRED by the Koran.

To speak against anything in this “perfect and complete” work is apostasy and blasphemy.

“Moderate” Muslims soon become headless ones when the denounce violent jihad.

“Islamophobia” stems from knowing the truth about Islam.

And it’s not a “phobia” - it’s a REASONABLE distrust of their culture and “religion”. Phobias are, by definition, unreasonable.

Your statement regarding “moderate” Muslims is so true. My sister’s boyfriend is a Pakistani man who says what you say. There are many who fear to denounce violent jihad.

. . .and another headline informs us as to 'rationale' behind Islamaphobia:

There are many who fear to denounce violent jihad.

Not condemning it is tantamount to condoning the behavior. They do so because it is a precept in Islam to either convert, subjugate to Islam those who are not Islamic or destroy them. There is no such thing as a moderate muslim.

The OIC would have to get everyone to agree that fear or hatred of Islam is irrational. That won’t happen.

Its not a "phobia" when the threat is all too real.
