The founder of the Weather Channel wants to sue Al Gore for fraud, hoping a legal debate will settle the global warming debate once and for all.
John Coleman, who founded the cable network in 1982, suggests suing for fraud proponents of global warming, including Al Gore, and companies that sell carbon credits.
"Is he committing financial fraud? That is the question," Coleman said.
"Since we can't get a debate, I thought perhaps if we had a legal challenge and went into a court of law, where it was our scientists and their scientists, and all the legal proceedings with the discovery and all their documents from both sides and scientific testimony from both sides, we could finally get a good solid debate on the issue," Coleman said. "I'm confident that the advocates of 'no significant effect from carbon dioxide' would win the case."

Wouldn’t it be nice to get in on the taking end of the carbon credits fraud and then use the money to diseminate the truth?

Bless his heart. John Coleman could aptly be named "Chief Weather Forecaster Emeritus" for the U.S.
No showbiz or razzle-dazzle, he's a straight shooter and got a lot of hard experience in Chicago....before Doppler and all the fancy computer graphics now in common use.
He's the "Real Deal".

Gore has described the lifestyle he and his wife Tipper live as "carbon neutral," meaning he tries to offset any energy usage, including plane flights and car trips, by "purchasing verifiable reductions in CO2 elsewhere."
But it turns out he pays for his extra-large carbon footprint through Generation Investment Management, a London-based company with offices in Washington, D.C., for which he serves as chairman. The company was established to take financial advantage of new technologies and solutions related to combating "global warming,"

There is a famous precedent for adjudicating scientific findings--the Scopes "Monkey Trial." He makes a very cogent point, that no media organ or major "university" will allow a true informed open debate on the subject. As with Obama's middle name, the speech Nazis have made a body of informed skeptical information a forbidden utterance.
Furthermore, It is highly likely that such a lawsuit( for financial fraud) could succeed on its merits, as the discovery process would peel back the environmental figleaf from the ugly corruption on an international scale which powers the AGW movement.

The founder of the Weather Channel vs. Al Gore.....and Al wouldn't dare debate him.
Who has the greater credibility in this discussion....a life-long weather professional or a politician?
It still amazes me that Al Gore is getting a free pass as he refuses all these offers to debate the subject.

What makes it work, as I understand it, is that developed countries like Germany charge businesses a pollution tax based on their emissions.
To reduce these taxes, the German company buys the credit for pollution-reducing equipment installed in a developing country, like China or India.
The pollution-reducing equipment installed overseas makes a big difference in the foreign plant's emissions, and the amount of this reduction is applied against the German company's emissions in calculating the German tax.
I believe that the problem is in the pollution tax itself, which is set according to government fiat. I know that in a related area of solar panels, for example, the German government forces the utility companies to buy back electricity from households generating power from solar panels, at a price far above what the utility company itself charges for electricity. So these pollution laws tend to be imperfect substitutes for the market economy and thus overall reduce growth and often don't even reduce pollution, which the laws incentivize in other forms.

If enough of us pledge $5 a month to sustain the litigation, we could break the idiot Gore, sooner or later, and leave him no money for a defense.

Quick thoughts -
In a fraud suit would they have to prove that Gore knew it was a fraud for him to be found guilty?
Also, I don't think they could find any jury that would unanimously vote that anthropogenic climate change is wrong or a fraud--there would always be people on the jury who would say "I don't know who to believe, it's soooo confusing!" and vote not guilty. Then, of course, the media would trumpet "Global warming deniers lose case!!" and we would be worse off than before.
