Campaign 2012 begins: Mitt to form PAC to elect Republican candidates
Hot Air ^ | March 13, 2008 | Allahpundit

He’s gone this route before as prep for a presidential run, first with his Commonwealth PAC and then as chairman of the Republican Governors Association, whose biggest contributions had a curious habit of going to key primary states like Iowa, Michigan, and Florida. Didn’t do him much good last time. Second time’s a charm?

According to two Republicans with knowledge of his plans, Romney, at some point during the next few weeks, intends to establish a new political action committee to help elect Republican candidates.

“We’re thinking about what new entity can be created to allow Governor Romney to remain politically active so he can raise money and campaign for Republicans, and advocate for the issues he cares about,” Eric Fehnrstrom, Romney’s long-time aide, said in an e-mail message…

Other Republicans close to Romney said that Romney was looking for ways to position himself as the ideas factory for the Republican party over the next four years, contributing policy to John McCain, if he’s in the White House, or to Republicans in Congress, if McCain is not.

That’s the best thing he could do to convince conservatives that his metamorphoses on abortion, immigration, etc, are bona fide and not just creatures of expedience — although it’ll be interesting to watch whether and how, assuming the political landscape shifts left (which is likely no matter who wins in the fall), Mitt recaptures some of the “nuance” of his previous, more centrist positions on those issues. Exit question: Huckabee’s got the same problem Romney does in convincing conservatives his tack to the right this year is for keeps. What’s his move?

It might be very telling to see what kind of “republicans” he decides to help.

Newt needs to dump the global warming bullsh!t. It’s the greatest threat to our freedom and massive drag on the entire world economy. When he comes to his senses about that, I’ll listen to him. Until then he can go pound sand.

Isn’t Mitt going to get the VP nod?

"and advocate for the issues he cares about"

Hope he quits pushing the liberal democrat issue of unconstitutional government intrusion into health care or any other private sector industry.

I have an idea for his PAC: disqualify any candidates who believe in socialized medicine.

You beat me to it.

Given his family’s history in industry, business, and politics, it will be very interesting indeed to see what direction Mitt charts for his future.

That would make sense because he can play the Native Son Card in MICHIGAN! We need to flip one of the two big Prizes, either PA or MI because I am pretty damn sure we are gonna lose Ohio, New Mexico, Iowa, and would be pushed to brink in few more like Nevada, Colorado and Missouri.

One big Blue State Conversion can really help offset bunch of mini-losses.

He also meets the criteria of being young and experienced and Talk-Radio-Verbahideen love him as well.

This move is surprising.....in the interview with Hannity he indicated that he is MORE THAN HAPPY to accept VP nod.....he didn’t say it in those words but you could figure it out.........he may be sensing that Mac may be looking elsewhere.....

To take the analogy farther, Newt is not an ideas factory anymore. Factories churn out products that people buy. Newt is still has a lot of great ideas but he is not able to package it into a sellable idea like during the Contract with America era. I welcome anybody in the GOP who can package conservative ideas and sell them to the masses.

The first thing Romney should do is reread, assuming he’s read it in the first place, the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. Note to Mitt: Pay particular attention to the Second Amendment. It’s not about the National Guard.

Romney is pretty much done. Conservatives have long memories, and when 2012 rolls around a new conservative leader will step up and assume control (Pence, Sanford, Santorum, & Rounds are all in their early 50s and are solid conservatives).

What Romney should do is to move back to his native state of Michigan and rescue that state from the vice-grips of Granholm.

This is an adjustment period. GOP is taking a beating since 2006. Right now nobody can wrap the GOP Product in a nice package.

Newt is infact working on next revolution. He has learned plenty from last victory and many defeats since. Next time he would be much better prepared and won’t REPEAT the mistakes they made last time.

What did GOP label Stand for?

Social Values - Toe Tapper and Page Pager took care of that.

Honest Govt. - Jack Abramoff and his freinds took care of that.

Warriors who Win Great Wars - Right after Baghdad Fell and Furniture looting began, with poor post war planning, and slow to adjust to realities on ground and now the War that was at one point supported by nearly 80% of population is being rejected by nearly 66% or so.

Fiscal Reponsibility - Falling Dollar, Subprime Mess, Deficits, Medicare-Prescription Bill Blunder, spending Records, Gas prices.

Cultural Issues - Open Borders is not the Culture people had in mind.

TRY AND PUT A NICE FACE ON THAT RECORD.

I was telling my co-worker who is also a Conservative Republican but McCain Hater (but he says he would support him over Hillary or Obama) that WE ARE LUCKY TO HAVE MAC as our Nominee. God must love us to get a guy like that at this hour.

Why?

Party has lost its credibility, but Mac hasn’t. “True Conservatives” hate him, and yes he F***** up on Immigration Bill, but overall WHATEVER VALUES PEOPLE USED TO ASSOCIATE WITH GOP, THEY NOW ASSOCIATE WITH McCAIN.

He infact can help RESTORE the party credibility and we are indeed lucky to have him as our leader at this moment in time.

Newt is figuring out how put the winning coalition back together. He will. Takes time!

Ideas Factory” in Republican Party and its called - Newt Gingrich.

It's too bad he ruined his future by having his own little girlfriend when he should have been going after Clinton. Newt can still be an ideas man, but he is not leader of men.

Women - you can’t live with them and you can’t live without them.

Newt wasn’t the first and won’t be the last. Remember the guy who replaced him, lasted a week or month or something....I can’t even rember his name.....from Louisiana or something..........same problem.

Yea but the GOP doesn't. Case in point, John McCain.
