Behind The Scenes:  Anti-War Activists Exposed

One of the more interesting aspects of Move America Forward’s investigation into the attacks on military recruiting centers was the discovery of comments made by the perpetrators themselves – and those who support them.

Shockingly, individuals involved in the criminal behavior of attacking U.S. military recruiting centers have regularly boasted about their attacks.  Others have provided counsel on how best to avoid detection and prosecution.

We are providing you with a sampling of what these individuals have said following attacks against various military recruiting centers.

SPOKANE, WASHINGTON

SPOKANE RECRUITING CENTER VANDALIZED

Anti-military activists discuss the KXLY TV-4 report, “Spokane: Grand jury indicts anarchist over recruiting station vandalism.” The discussion takes place at Infoshop.org – CLICK HERE TO VIEW IT.
One individual says:  “the proper response to this is for people to vandalize more recruiting stations.”

Other comments concern how individuals can take actions to avoid being caught attacking recruiting centers.

And another individual admonishes:  “Never admit to anything ever, make them have to form their case. Completely. No plea deals. No coping up. Period.”

The proper response to this is for people to vandalize more recruiting stations. It’s important to stand up to the authorities and show them that we will not be intimidated.

On a more practical note, I think our movement needs to have a more prominent discussion about how to engage in actions and not get caught. NOBODY should ever post anything to their MySpace page that shows evidence of ANY crime. If you have to post photos to the Internet, post them to a third party site like Indymedia. It also sounds like people shouldn’t upload photos directly from their cameras. Perhaps scan and photocopy photos. Better yet, DON’T TAKE PICTURES. It’s not vital that evidence of your action be recorded for the world to see.

And please people, don’t be a dumbass and tag “ELF” at the scene of some action. That will only worsen your prison time if you get caught. Nobody has to know WHO did an action. Please, please get over the idea that a name has to be attached to an action. The action will speak for itself.

Chuck

I can’t believe how sloppy these guys are! Geez! I mean, think about it, there are at least a dozen ways they could’ve averted the situaton. Merely removing the IPTC data in the pictures would’ve resulted in a second level of plausible deniablity (the fingerprints alone would not have been enough to jail them, period; they had to get a warrent to get more information for that very reason). And simply wearing gloves would’ve prevented any leads from even existing. Never admit to anything ever, make them have to form their case. Completely. No plea deals. No coping up. Period.

Authored by: Why on Saturday, August 25 2007 @ 08:20 PM PDT
Use something like XnView and go to Edit -> Metadata -> Remove EXIF data, then -> Edit -> Metadata -> Remove IPTC data. That’s how I do it with my current program. You can also just do a batch “reencode” of the file which will remove the IPTC/EXIF data automagically. Also, changing the date on the files to something weird can be useful.

What strikes me here is the failure to understand the technologies that were being used. Metadata will absolutely be enough evidence to tie you to a particular .jpg file, especially if you own the camera in question. So even if you were to delete the files after uploading them, it’s irrelevant. Please people, understand the technology you’re utilizing and be sure to cover your tracks in every way possible.

While I think the mistakes that were made SHOULD BE analyzed and discussed, and prevented from occuring again, I do think people should really support people that do such actions, regardless of the ‘stupid mistakes’ that were made. And to prove how to pull it off without mistakes, people should, in solidarity, duplicate the actions in their own towns and show how it could be done and gotten away with.
How about that?

I think alot of young anarchists really need to take heed to this. Think you can’t go to jail really easy if you are careless and don’t plan, and use secruity culture, think again.

Couple thoughts on how this could all be avoided:

1.) Don’t leave evidence behind.
2.) Don’t leave finger prints.
3.) Don’t talk about illegal shit in your home, car, or anywhere else where the FBI may be recording. Turn your cell phone off, because it might be used as a listening device.
4.) Don’t talk about who you thought did other illegal actions, ever.
5.) Don’t post pictures of illegal stuff that can connect you with them.
6.) Don’t have evidence at your home. Get rid of it.
7.) Don’t go around spraying your group’s same around town and then expect go not get caught.

NEW YORK CITY, NY

Prior to the bombing of the Times Square military recruiting center, anti-war activists had repeatedly targeted the center, closing it down several times.  They call their efforts, “Operation No Recruits.”

BOMBING OF TIMES SQUARE RECRUITING CENTER

An anti-war blogger cheered on the Times Square military recruiting center bombing, shamelessly declaring that, “Sometimes the news in the morning just warms your heart.”

Sometimes the news in the morning just warms your heart… first, millions of dollars worth of property damage to wealthy mansions and now a damaged and closed recruitment station, what’s next, rioting in the streets? (God I hope so)

It’s about time people started fighting back against this system. Granted, violent confrontation can only get you so far, but it is a step in the right direction and will hopefully help break the spell our populous is under thanks to societal artifacts like the class system and the military industrial complex.

The individual goes on to say that, “anti-war does not mean anti-violence.” READ IT FOR YOURSELF - HERE.

Led by the War Resisters League of New York, they made this declaration ahead of the bombing:

The recruiting station in Times Square stands as an arrogant symbol of U.S. militarism and the cheapness with which the government holds young American lives. Consequently, we have planned a series of actions over a period of a week or more during which we hope to deny the Pentagon additional cannon fodder to feed to the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

The New York chapter of the War Resisters League can be reached via email at:  nycwrl@att.net

At the New York Indymedia website, activists celebrated their protests that had previously forced the closure of the recruiting center.  They called people who disagreed with their tactics, “Nazis,” and called for further actions “until they close it for good.” CLICK HERE to READ the DISCUSSION

They do not bring freedom they bring slavery and death. That is why the people of Iraq, Afghanistan and dozens of other occupied peoples the world over resist them and their criminal hoards. And the “freedom” they bring is a farce and a charade. Now slime back down to LGF Hell, toady.

I wonder what these bozos would think if the places where they congregate or things they own were burned, blown-up, or just generally destroyed.

Oh, that's not fair!

They are such cowards. Last nite in Berkeley they chastised the Police for treating them so badly.

When actually the Berkeley Police Dept has been giving them pass after pass on their illegal activities, even letting them block the door to the Marine Recruiting Office for 7.5 hours one day.

No on could get in, and the police said they had to remain "neutral."

Reported here at FR quite extensively, check the keyword "berkeley" for the threads.

WASHINGTON, D.C.

The group, “Funk the War,” found a door unlocked to the Washington, D.C. recruiting center and proceeded to brag that they:  “exploited the situation by demonstrating to them first hand how an occupying force behaves.”

After a loud commotion inside while outnumbered cops watched, recruiters finally managed to get protesters to leave- but not before literature and full-body length cardboard displays in the street window area were destroyed. In addition, hundreds more “Funk the War” stickers were plastered all over just about everything that would take them. By the time everyone was out it looked like a tornado had swept through the lobby.

PROTESTORS OVERPOWER RECRUITERS - TAKE OVER CENTER

Individuals celebrated the attack on the recruiting center at the DC Indymedia website.  They called recruiters, “child predator(s)” and fantasizing about murdering “war profiteers” and recruiters:

That recruiter is a child predator who sits at a desk all day and probably couldn’t handle actual war but loves to stalk children. Oh and I wish I had an M-16 with some extra magazines so I could just walk down K St. and start blasting war profiteers and recruiters and watch as you right wing losers start to cry your silly little heads off.

Now that's a good idea! A fast, fair trial, and then Saddamize them.

PITTSBURGH, PA

The anti-war movement has been especially active in Pittsburgh, PA.  There have been repeated attacks on the military recruiting center here.  As individuals noted in a discussion forum, they say, “the American military, from top to bottom is a hideous blight on our planet.” VIEW THE DISCUSSION FORUM HERE.

There’s No Glory or Honor in Iraq - Stop the Troops!

The American military, from top to bottom is a hideous blight on our planet. There are no innocents in this massive killing machine. There’s no ‘honour’ in volunteering for the worlds largest terrorist organization, now under the command of the deceitful, criminal cabal led by George W. Bush.

PROTESTORS SHUT DOWN PITTSBURGH RECRUITING CENTER

Activists bragged about the fact that they had shut down or interfered with the ability of the recruiting station to function six separate times.  YOU CAN READ THEIR ACCOUNT HERE.

Today in Pittsburgh, 100 people showed up in response to a call to shut down military recruitment in Pittsburgh. For the second time in a month,
Pittsburgh Organizing Group (POG) was able to successfully shut down the main recruitment station in Pittsburgh. This marked the sixth time in
recent months that recruitment in Pittsburgh was disrupted by anti-war activists
.

The activists were reportedly able to overpower police, managing to “unarrest” a number of those who police were attempting to take into custody:

While a total of six people were arrested, many other people were successfully un-arrested by activists who pulled them away.

But now Pittsburgh anti-war activists want to take things even further.  They are planning a March 19th protest where they have announced their plans to bring, “a movable cage in which to confine military recruiters until they no longer pose a danger to our friends and neighbors.” READ THEIR VILE COMMENTS HERE.

On Wednesday, March 19, POG will be holding a torch-lit march to a modern day castle of abominations—our local military recruiting station. If the station remains open, we intend to evict it and everything inside of it, occupy the location, and transform it into something useful for the community. We’ll also be bringing a movable cage in which to confine military recruiters until they no longer pose a danger to our friends and neighbors.

I agree that this is ,in time of war, a treasonous act and they should be prosecuted. They are playing at their little anti-warness” to make themselves feel nice and self-righteous and this should stop.
Perhaps someone should propose a law making this a felony.

New twist.

But warnings to stay away have been going out to military families for days now - including one from Fort Lewis seeking to prevent a clash between protestors and military families.

Families were advised to stay clear of the mall for a five-hour period from roughly noon to 5:30 p.m., since some recent anti-war protests, including those at the Port of Olympia, have seen increased violence.

http//www.king5.com/topstories/stories/NW_031408WAB_tacoma_mall_protests_KS.54883f0e.htm

In this instance, this picture is just bizarre. Why? Because American Military Families do not have the freedom to go to the mall.

Film ‘Chicago 10’ parallels ‘68 protests with Iraq

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A film about violent U.S. anti-Vietnam War protests in 1968 is not just another nostalgic Sixties movie, says director Brett Morgen, but instead seeks to reflect current opposition to wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

UCPD Looks Into Vandalism From Anti-War Protest
Demonstrators Cause $3,748 Worth of Damage Including Lost Rental Fees

By Jessica Mullen / Staff Writer
Published Thursday, March 6, 2008

-When lost rental fees for the relocated conference are figured into the calculations, the total amount of damages increases to $3,748.
-According to Bowman (UCPD spokesman), the total cost classifies the crime as a felony offense, which permits the police department to press charges independently of the university. However, if the department chose to prosecute individuals, the crimes would fall under the category of a misdemeanor.
-University Center Director Alan Kirby said that following the vandalism, the university compiled a list of damages which it then forwarded to UCPD.
-“We are doing everything we can to recover the expenses incurred,” Bowman said. “If protests are peaceful then that is great, but when protests become criminal then we have to get involved.”

Here is the last city mentioned in the sampling mentioned in this article:

SAN JOSE, CA

After anti-war activists set fire to the military recruiting center in San Jose, California, they bragged that recruiting centers made for good targets for “direct action” because they, “are often far away from military bases and completely unguarded.” READ THE CELEBRATION OF THE ARSON ATTACK HERE.

arson against military recruiting center in San Jose

Direct action! Recruiting centers are often far away from military bases and completely unguarded.

Another individual agrees, saying it’s a “good point.”

Good point

Hell yes and for those who don’t feel up to direct action: putting the phone number to your local recruiter on all those contact sheets marketers collect is a great way to harass the SOB’s.

Any action is better than no action. Any body have any ideas how you can harrass/disrupt the enemy?

Note that they do not view Islamic terrorists as “the enemy” but rather our troops.

Other anti-war discussion forums cheered on the act of arson at the recruiting center.  This thread in particular contained a string of offensive and disturbing comments.  VIEW IT HERE.

wow. very cool

1 down! thousands to go! This is some awesome news to wake up to!

i caught this on the seattle news last night ans was very excited to hear about it. although i thought it was more local, its of course still inspiring. thank you.

Bravo! Usually I\’m not a big supporter of vandalism, but I love to hear people sticking it to the government, and especially the military, like this. Good job!
