There is a detail nobody seems to have catch.
The latest Pentagon report says Iraq had no links with Al-Qaeda. But it says Saddam had collaborative links with the Egyptian islamic jihad :
The Iraqi Intelligence Service in a 1993 memo to Saddam agreed on a plan to train commandos from Egyptian Islamic Jihad, the group that assassinated Anwar Sadat and was founded by Al Qaeda's second-in-command, Ayman al-Zawahiri. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1985660/posts
The Egyptian islamic jihad's members particularity was to wear read bandanas when they attack. And the Flight 93 terrorists wore red bandanas according to witnesses.

Color me shocked and stuned!
bttt
Investigators were also intrigued to learn from cellphone calls made by passengers on the Newark flight that the hijackers who commandeered that jet donned red bandanas before they took over the plane. Red bandanas have been a signature of Islamic Jihad in its attacks on Western tourists and Coptic Christians in a bloody insurgency against the Mubarak government throughout the 1990s.

Since Saddam funded Islamic Jihad then he was directly funding al-Qaeda and attacks on US embassies. This is crystal clear now.
From the 9/11 Commission Report regarding the bombing of the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania August 7, 1998.
911 Commission: 2.1 A DECLARATION OF WAR
"On February 23, 1998, Bin Ladin issued his public fatwa. The language had been in negotiation for some time, as part of the merger under way between Bin Ladin's organization and Zawahiri's Egyptian Islamic Jihad."
"Declarations taking credit for the attacks had already been faxed to the joint al Qaeda-Egyptian Islamic Jihad office in Baku,..."
"On the morning of August 7, the bomb-laden trucks drove into the embassies roughly five minutes apart-about 10:35 A.M. in Nairobi and 10:39 A.M. in Dar es Salaam.... The attack on the U.S. embassy in Nairobi destroyed the embassy and killed 12 Americans and 201 others, almost all Kenyans. About 5,000 people were injured. The attack on the U.S. embassy in Dar es Salaam killed 11 more people,..."

Oh, he had ties alright. But he was smart enough to not let them run around in his country. Kept them far away from the general population.
Great. Thanks!
That is, until Zarqawi and others moved from Afghanistan to Iraq after the U.S. invasion in that country, and were setting up Al Qaeda cells in the year before the Iraq invasion.
