Obama says his pastor 'pained and angered me'

Obama says his pastor 'pained and angered me' 'Denounces' anti-American, racist rhetoric, insists he never heard such talk in person

Responding to mounting controversy over radical anti-American and racist statements by his pastor, Sen. Barack Obama issued a statement today to the Christian Broadcasting Network saying he strongly condemns and denounces remarks by Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. that disparaged the country or degraded people.

Obama referred to the "firestorm over the last few days" from unearthed video segments of Wright's sermons that the senator described as "some inflammatory and appalling remarks he made about our country, our politics, and my political opponents."

The front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination said he was not in attendance when Wright made any of the statements and never heard such talk in private conversations.

"Let me say at the outset that I vehemently disagree and strongly condemn the statements that have been the subject of this controversy," Obama said. "I categorically denounce any statement that disparages our great country or serves to divide us from our allies. I also believe that words that degrade individuals have no place in our public dialogue, whether it's on the campaign stump or in the pulpit. In sum, I reject outright the statements by Rev. Wright that are at issue."

Late today, Wright stepped down from his formal role in Obama's campaign, as a member of his African American Religious Leadership Committee, said the Politico's Ben Smith, citing campaign spokesman Tommy Vietor.

BUT the campaign is still keeping him on as spiritual advisor, eh?

IMHO, they’ll boot him eventually, saying he decided to leave over too much controversy. I find it hard to believe he never heard of any of this stuff, though.

We stopped attending the church which we had belonged to for some ten years when the minister advised that we look into our hearts to discover what we, as a nation, had done to make people angry enough at us to do what was done on 9/11. I haven’t missed it.

Bullfeathers. Obama’s church is steeped in radical antiAmerican ideas. It isn’t just “retiring” Pastor Wright. The new pastor is a fan of black (Cornell West) and white (Michael Lerner) Leftists. We already knew about Obama’s links with white Weatherman terror-bomber Ayers. The mask is coming off, Barack Hussein.

What white folks don’t realize is that this grievance mongering hate-America nonsense is so common in the African American community that people don’t really see it for what it is. It is like one is trying to outdo the other, and it is treated as such.

So if you have a small grievance or you want to be anti-establishment, you say something like “G_d d*mn America” and people just say MMMM HMMM, without evaluating that statement objectively. It is only slightly more outrageous that what somebody else said last week, so you are not seen as being an idiot.

Now a bunch of outsiders are looking at these sermons and taking them in isolation. In this context, they are outrageous, and if you asked 95% of the people who were clapping and saying “Amen” at the time to consider them objectively, they would probably agree. But at the time, it only seems mildly outside-the-lines. People are so used to this sort of thing, it’s just “blah, blah, blah”.

Now, I think this particular tendency of African American society is wrong and ultimately holds the people back, on the whole, but it must be considered when evaluating this sort of statement.

He’ll definitely have to make the move. The damage is spreading quickly. Fortunately, the resignation is going to give the thing more traction as well.

He was there for 20 years. Can’t tell me he never heard about the 9/16/2001 “sermon”. You can bet folks were talking about that one for quite awhile.

Obambi’s so full of sh!t. Wright has been solidly in Obambi’s camp and various campaigns for years. Obambi had even asked Wright to speak at his announcement to run for national office, and only at the last minute “uninvited him” because of the complaints it was starting to generate. But, Wright’s rantings aren’t new. He’s been spouting crap like that for years! There’s no way in hell that Obambi was unaware of this guy’s hateful brand of pulpit rhetoric.

Yes, he’s trapped big time.

EITHER he heard Wright spew his filth, PLENTY...

OR he didn’t really go to church much, if at all, that 20 years, like he says he did.

One or the other, Hussein. One or the other.

Obama attended the church for 20 years. I've read he was married by this guy. His children baptized, at least at the church.
Supposedly he inspired the title to Obama's book "The Audacity Of Hope".

Earlier, Obama described his relationship as an uncle.

This doesn't sound as someone who has limited exposure to Wright.

The video getting the most exposure is supposed to be from a video sold at the church, of Wrights greatest sermons, or greatest clips.

I would think that if Wright were like an uncle to Obama, he'd have this video at home. I went to a church that taped messages, and I have quite a few tapes.
