not quite over cumming yet..my g/f is holed up in a convenience store in cumming at the moment because I told her to duck for cover..she says heavy, heavy wind and driving rain..my ex-wife is in the basement of her (formerly my) house and is scared to death, my youngest daughter called me in tears..my middle daughter is now going for cover..
that is one of the storngest couplets i have ever seen..heading for gainsville
My cousin lives in Acworth, GA. The storm passed just north of there. A tornado touched down in Cartersville, where his girlfriend lives. Prayers for her and her family. My cousin is fine. Prayers for them and everyone in the area.
God bless them and keep them safe. I hope it passes quickly.
Yall be careful,,

Does anyone know about Dallas, Ga
in Pawlding Co, if it took a direct hit?
My son lives there and was heading
for his office in the basement with the cat.
Just to my south last night and 20 miles to my north today. Today’s look far worse on radar. When I was a little kid, I remember a real old guy telling a group of us about a time after the turn of the century when a tornado hit Gainesville, Georgia. He said pine needles were lodged two inches deep in trees. Prayers for my fellow north Georgians.
WSB-TV is reporting fatalities in Polk County.
Gainsville looks like they are in for trouble now.
will go just south of the city...but the couplet just over oakwood
Called my cousin and they’re fine. His girlfriend and her family actually are north of Cartersville, so they’re fine as well. Prayers for everyone else in the path of the storm(s).
Prayers up...I’m seeing the alerts on Fox now...
I t was in the path of the storm but I've heard anything on tv spefically about those areas. They said a tornado passed over GA-400 near Lake Lanier. It sounds like a bad storm in hitting Cartersville.
I 've thought of buying a house in Dallas GA.

at least one death in polk county, the front is now past gainesville..another big one looks like it’s coming behind this one..paulding county I’ve seen no reports on yet..report of a tornado down in cartersville but unconfirmed from what I can tell..
another cell is firing up just west of cartersville moving towards canton..
My sister & her family live in Duluth. I just got off the phone with my bro-in-law. They are OK, but it sounds like downtown Atlanta got nailed. Last year they couldn’t buy rain.
I flew back to ATL last night just as that sudden super-cel hit downtown. The ATL airport is about 10 miles south of the impact area, so air traffic was safe at the time. The view out the right side of the aircraft was impressive: vivid constant lightning. The car ride home was amazing— pieces of roofing, A/C shrouds, sheet metal, who knows what was all over the downtown connector.
Go here for up to the minute radar.

Tornadoes ALL around me at this very moment. 2" hail pounding the parking lot. Sky is black. I've never been in anything like this... just praying it goes around this area. MULTIPLE funnels touching down in southern Hall county right NOW as I listen to the radio. This is SCARY!!!!!!!!
see my #22....bro sent it about 15 minutes ago.
another cell formed over cartersville and is moving east, growing in intensity..my g/f left cumming and she’s on her way home, but I called her and told her to find cover again..
she called neighbors and they say there’s pretty heavy damage out by my house (I’m in Northern Indiana working), but I’m worried because we have 60 foot high hardwoods 10 feet from the house..will know more in a bit..(keep in mind, my neighbors are hundreds of yards away, no subdivision)..
Bad numbers indeed in those conditions....fingers crossed for all y'all!
Atlanta is ok for now, but it seems, as the system moves east, the storms are firing up on the GA AL border, and ready to rip by the time they get around Atlanta’s perimeter highway (285). Usually the big storms in AL dissipate by the time they get to Atlanta and environs. Not today. I fear more fatalities north of the city; two deaths reported so far, but that hook at Cumming was unbelievable. I just watched the cnn videos of last night’s damage in Atlanta. It is a miracle no one was killed here. The extent of the property damage shocked me.

more cells look like they’re firin up behind the one that just formed over cartersville..looks like it’s gonna be non-stop for a while..
Prayers up for all of you going through this scary stuff.
I’m in Minnesota, so we’ve got a couple of months before tornado season begins. We get our whopper storms here so I know what you’re going through.
Heed the warnings and take cover. Stay safe my FReeper friends.
ex-wife just called...she’s in southeastern cherokee..says golf ball size hail is beating her car to crap, along with my daughters car..wind is picking up, they’re in the basement..
I think the worst has passed. But there are more funnels to the west, hopefully tracking on a different course. I have NEVER seen anything like what I saw just a few minutes ago. I was scared SH*TLESS, and I was standing in the metal door frame in my little bathroom here since there's really nowhere to go for safety in a tornado in this shopping center. Right now the rain is pounding hard and there's a lot of hail mixed into it. I don't know what might have happened at home since Vicky isn't there...she's visiting a friend across town. She just called to say she's okay and it seems to have passed over them, too.
new supercells developing west near the AL line..moving due east for the city
I’m watchin those cells..this is bad..
I just looked at the 1800 mile radar. Although the individual cells in N. Ga. appear to be moving east northeast, the system as a whole appears to be dipping slowing to the south. In that regard, there is a monster (Clintonesque) storm system on the AL/TN border that looks like it will visit us in N. Ga. in a few hours. Hard to tell how far south it will go.
Aside from our Spring time storms, Atlanta is, for about three weeks in late March and early April, the prettiest city I have ever seen. The dogwoods, azaleas, daffodils, pear trees, tulips etc. bloom simultaneously. Breathtaking.
When there’s purple on the map you’re in deep dodo.

Prayers for y’all’s safety.
FORSYTH GA-
255 PM EDT SAT MAR 15 2008
...A TORNADO WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 315 PM EDT FOR FORSYTH
COUNTY...
AT 253 PM EDT...A TORNADO WAS REPORTED. THIS TORNADO WAS LOCATED NEAR
OSCARVILLE...MOVING EAST AT 60 MPH.
NWS enhanced radar image has THREE tornado WARNINGS posted for GA.
One just NW of the Mall of GA (wil miss the mall but maybe not the numerous car lots N of the mall). Be a bad day to be around Exit 16 on 985.
Next tornadic cell is about 15 miles NNE of Athens over Lake Hartwell. Hang on SC, we’re passing one over to you.
Inbound W. Atlanta is a third tornadic cell right over the AL/GA border currently on a 080 degree path at 50+ MPH. Pointed right at north edge of the perimeter in about 30-40 minutes. That one has a bulls-eye on our place ...
Tornado warning now gone from storm on western GA border
g/f got home, no trees down, house is ok but the drive is completely flooded into the basement..
Another storm with (according to radio) 3 1/2" hail and possible tornadoes...moving into Cumming and heading for us. Damn...NOT a fun afternoon!
Update... confirmed tornado "on the ground" right now in Cumming and heading to Lake Lanier. Two deaths in Hall County just confirmed from the first storm an hour ago.
That 3rd one has a bull’s eye on my place, too. I chose to cancel a shopping trip today to the Georgia Mall with my son. Shoes can wait. Last place I want to be is in a mall when the stuff hits the fan. My basement is so cozy at times like these. When I finished my basement, I built a reinforced sump pump closet. It’s no panic room, but with some pillows, lots of pillows, the two of us should be ok there.
Tornadoes speak for themselves, also. Are you a law dawg?
not a law dog, but I work with ‘em too much ;-)
‘res ipsa’ is just the “ya-think?!?” or “duuuh!!!” of law-speak that I like.
Have family in Greenville...anything headed there?
worst storms are currently headed well south of greenville SC
If not there, close. There’s a big cell along I-85 at the GA/SC border that may be heading toward either Greenville or Laurens.
If this whole mess keeps tracking ENE, it could be an interesting night all the way up here in NC.
}:-)4
Looks like the worst of it is passing south of G’ville and north of Athens.
