Not disagreeing, but issuance of gun permits is an administrative decision, not a criminal sanction. A similar issue is guys who pleaded to indecent exposure for peeing on the sidewalk in 1974 and can't live within a mile of a school and have their pictures posted on the internet.

The death penalty was in effect at the time of the murders. I you recall, Manson was sentenced to death for the Tate-Lobianco murders, but this was later commuted to life by SCOTUS.

Unless there was a constitutionally valid death penalty law in effect when the murders took place, there will be no death penalty now if he is convicted as such punishment would be ex post facto.

Enlist Senator Frank Lautenberg to take up the case. Ex post facto doesn't mean sh*t to him.

The Lautenberg amendment bans "shipment, transport, ownership and use of guns or ammunition by individuals convicted of misdemeanor or felony domestic violence".

It has nothing to do with "issuance of gun permits".

It applies even in the civilized portions of the country where no permit is required for weapon ownership, as the unfortunate Dr. Emerson found out.

This fruitcake started his criminal career really early on in the Virginia and Ohio area if I recall.

I could be wrong, but as I recall, there was a death penalty in effect when the murders took place and he was sentenced to the death penalty at his trial. That death penalty law, however, was thrown out some years later and Manson got a straight life sentence.
