Obama camp: No, Newsmax, he wasn’t there for the sermon on July 22
Hot Air ^ | March 17, 2008 | Allahpundit

An (almost) airtight alibi, refuting the charge that he was present in church and nodding along last summer when Wright indicted the “United States of White America.” So much for Newsmax’s credibility. People were ripping on me in the comments to the Juan Williams post for having called the Messiah a shrewd politician but just look at the game he’s got us playing here — trying to place him physically at the scene of any single sermon at a church he patronized for 20 years, as if absent that evidence we might have to believe his feigned ignorance. Newsmax’s info was bogus? Well, maybe he really didn’t know after all!

Actually, I like this explanation better. Wait for it. About halfway through.

No idea if he was there or not but lets work the times backwards:

Its a 4hour flight Chicago to Miami(3 hours flight time plus 1 hour time change)

Obama was introduced at 1:50 pm.Miami Time
He would have had to have landed at 1:10pm Miami Time
He would have had to have taken off at 9:10am Chicago Time
He would have had to arrived at airport by 8:40am Chicago Time
He would have had to have left the church for the airport at 8:10am Chicago Time
The service started at 7:30am. Chicago Time
It would be a tight schedule, but its possible he was at the service for a short time.

(No SR-71 needed like the carter/hostage conspiracy nuts said Bush Sr used when it was shown he could not have been where they claimed he was. LOL)

I'm so confused. Is the story true or false?

That makes two of us. I posted the story and even I'm not sure what to take away from all this.

Conservatives should not be participating in this taking down of Obama right now.
Being the stupid people we are, we can’t help ourselves.
Let him get the nomination, please! The Queen is a much more formidable general election opponent.
Obama will get beat 49 states to 1.

Reliable or not the source of this story is here:

http://justoneminute.typepad.com/main/2008/03/i-dont-know-wha.html

Barack catches a break - the NewsMax reporter who claimed Obama was in the church nodding in agreement during yet another of Jeremiah Wright's speeches has a space-time problem.  From NewsMax:

Contrary to Senator Barack Obama’s claim that he never heard his pastor Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. preach hatred of America, Obama was in the pews last July 22 when the minister blamed the “white arrogance” of America’s Caucasian majority for the world’s suffering, especially the oppression of blacks.

However, Barack spoke that Sunday to a La Raza rally in Miami - here is video from his website, a Washington Times story, and the speaking schedule - Barack was due up at 1:30 PM.

This does not resolve Obama's central problem - he is telling the nation that

"We’ve got a lot of pent-up anger and bitterness and misunderstanding. But what I continue to believe in is that this country wants to move beyond these kinds of divisions."

but there is no evidence that, over the course of twenty years, he has moved his own minister past anger and bitterness.

However, if Obama was not attending church the specific day NewsMax claims he was, this gotcha is gone, and Obama's ludicrous claim that he was unaware of Wright's incendiary black separatism has not yet been disproven.

Props to Mickey Kaus for this.

MORE:  Planes, trains, and automobiles?  From Chicago to Miami for a 1:30 scheduled speech?  I could believe Obama flew in Sunday morning, but to have time to go to church first?  Per NewsMax, it was a Sunday morning sermon.  And there is a one hour time difference between Chicago, so even the 7AM service would be a tight schedule.  Hmm, in by 8 AM (Eastern time), out by 9 (C'mon, don't tell an old Catholic that the early service isn't the quick one), private plane for three hours to Miami - EZ!  Or at least, not utterly implausible.  Pretty high level of energy and commitment from Obama, though.  Show us some plane ticket receipts!

I thought Clintons stopped the burning of black churches during Bill’s terms. Seems now it is the Clintons who are burning black Churches.

This thread is proof that people don't read more than the headline before they post. It's pretty obvious who watched the video and who didn't.

In HotAir's comments I noticed someone ('dave742') pointed out that the sermon on July 22, 2007 in the orig Newsmax story was also written about here today: Kristol: The New York Times

I also noticed, WPtG, that someone on HotAir grabbed your line "So, in essence, the defense is: "He couldn't have been with the militant black separatist that morning, because he was spending the afternoon with militant Mexican separatists!". Nice job!

We are all playing Obama’s game by making such a huge deal out of this NOW, instead of after the Convention. This will never hurt him with Democrat voters. He will still likely win the nomination. To exhaust the American public’s attention with this NOW is a huge risk, one which is made worse by errant reports such as NewsMax had. ENOUGH. Shut this crap down. It only helps Hillary. Save the Wright barrage for after Denver!

Obama will NOT get the nomination. It’s not going to happen. And what we do now (or later) in this regard matters little. Why? Because it’s the infighting within the Democrat Party itself which is going to eventually destroy Obama and ensure Hillary the nomination.

I don’t think this should be breaking news because that is implying there is some new information here when there isn’t. It’s just a link to a web site which basically says “no, he wasn’t.” Take a look at the link.

The author of the article says the sermon was at 7:30. The church’s web site says it was at 6 PM. Either way, there is no airtight ailibi. Considering the article was writen last August I’m still believing the author here. It’s unfair to Newsmax, in my opinion, to have this posted as a fact in breaking news.

OK Rush.
But I’ll tell you right here that Obama doesn’t have a prayer in the general election. The in-fighting in the Dem party will only strengthen The Queen and she will win in a landslide.

That’s why “vision” pinged the author. I’m not out to slam Newsmax, I just want to hear all sides, and then put everything together, and make my own decision.

May because many conservatives including Rush Limbaugh (El Zibo) want a stronger opponent against McCain in the general elections and they know that Barack will be soundly beaten by McCain whereas Hillary Clinton has over 50% chance of winning the Presidency.

El Zibo and many conservatives have only one objective in this election: Defeat McCain at any cost.
