The thunderous applause was still ringing in his ears when the state's new governor, David Paterson, told the Daily News that he and his wife had extramarital affairs.
In a stunning revelation, both Paterson, 53, and his wife, Michelle, 46, acknowledged in a joint interview they each had intimate relationships with others during a rocky period in their marriage several years ago.
In the course of several interviews in the past few days, Paterson said he maintained a relationship for two or three years with "a woman other than my wife," beginning in 1999.

Im not defending adultery, and this guy may be a lib, but I have to give him props for candor. Agreed.
Candor is admitting it BEFORE you are sworn in for Governor.

Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno.
Gotta see what (or who) is in his closet!
Paterson’s Governorship depends on whether or not he used State $$ to enable his affair. If he did he is toast too. My guess is that Bruno may be behind (ahem) this.
Stay tuned!

Governor Paterson re-knoodled his wife in the same hotel he knoodled his mistress! Heck Paterson probably booked the same suite! - lol
As part of that relationship, Paterson said, he and the other woman sometimes stayed at an upper West Side hotel the Days Inn at Broadway and W. 94th St. ...He and his wife went to the West Side Days Inn when they were trying to rekindle the romance in their marriage, he said.

I’m not silly enough to assume that the parties to a marriage have never slept with anybody else during the marriage, and neither are most New Yorkers. He and his wife each knew about each others extracurricular activities, and it’s really not anybody else’s business. They told the media in order to avoid an outbreak of disruptive media hoopla while he’s trying to get his job done.
To: Travelgirl
I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, to start. Unless you know something I don’t? This is a new guy on the radar for those not living in the New Dork area.

Yes, the one thing this guy doesn’t seem to be - not yet, anyway - is corrupt, or a liar.
Again, we don’t know much about him yet. And he is VERY liberal.
But idealistic as I am, I do enjoy the occasional find of a relatively honest politician.

Well, my post had to do with not disclosing this information until after being sworn in, and not having the people of NY make their own decision as to his fitness for office in an election.
I guess I am silly enough to think the parties in a marriage don't party with others if they want to stay happily married. It's actually a deal breaker for some people. But, that's just my opinion.

I cant believe this headline- he did NOT admit to having sex, he said they had a rocky point in their marriage and both had extramarital affiars they both already knew about...
I give him credit for talking openly about it and resolving to fix their marriage.
This is a far cry from spitzers hooker problem.

We should impeach every public office holder who has ever had an extramarital affair.

[But if you lust in your heart youve already committed adultery, no win situation.]
The sin nature always precedes the sin incident but does not always lead to the sin, in this case, blatent and proud of their adultry. Hate crime legislation is an arrogant attempt to make men guilty of thought crimes but should never make them guilty of it unless they commit it. And for liberals, being a conservative who hates adulty is a hate crime as they are wholly given over to it. Go figure.

State law does not have any provision for an election in the event of the resignation of the governor. Announcing that you’ve slept with someone other than your wife while married doesn’t change state law.

Life is not black and white.
There are moral sins and consequences and then there are/and civil criminal moral corruption that has it’s penalties.

I don't think anyone condones audultry.
It is none of our business unless we are one of the guilty parties.
This guy knew the media and political enemies would make it a front page "lookie he is no good" either story.
If Spitzer went to a legal brothel in Nevada with his own earnings he would be in office today. No crime/corruption.
I suspect those holding men in politics to Christ without sin levels are way to unforgiving in other areas of Life.
Hey for that matter we should have the "must see pics" rule abolished from here to make those without sin satisfied that we are all perfect.
I wonder how many here posting how "shocked" and "morally outraged" they are have ever thought about leaving their partner or considered a tryst at a moment of weakness.

I'm from Nevada and now living in New York for the last
6 years but I'm ready to come back to Nevada even thou the
homeless control the votes there, ask Sen.Reid. The Hollywood want a bes control New York. New Jersey they just
call on the Judges and change the voting rules in the middle
of an election. Hillary keeps her voting numbers high, no reason for a recount, who cares if the dead rise and vote.
New Mexico, Richardson the man who covers for Clintons, traveled the world to get countries to cut oil production and Bush was taking the blame. Richardson and the Clintons
would burn down the entire state of N.M and the people still
sit back and let Richardson walk into a government office.
Before go I would like to remind everyone about something
Chelsea Clinton had to say a few years back.
While many African people and children lie on the ground
dying, starving to death, Hitlary was having a party for
Chelsea and few select African young teens. Chelsea's political coming party I guess, Chelsea said, “ ALL YOUNG
PEOPLE IN AMERICA ARE VIOLANT AND ON DRUGS” Why hasn't the
the media reported again on Chelsea or is she still off
limits.

“You’re either habitually in control of yourself or you’re not.
If you’re not, you have no business governing others.”
I think that’s the best comment I’ve read so far on the matter.
One is tempted to say they have been honest with each other and worked through a tough time - let it be.
But...in one day this “rough patch” has evolved from a vague description - to “several” affairs, and one being with a staffer.
This does indeed reflect a lack of self-control - a lack of respect - abuse of power of office - and lack of morality.
In one day, my respect for a guy who overcame great odds due to his disability - has devolved into “great! another slimeball!”
And our kids are paying attention - they’re getting the message that fidelity isn’t possible in a marriage.

I'm simmering on some thoughts about the inspiration guys like Spitzer give mixed up young women; creating demand for young girls and the people who expoit them. It'll be a smoking blog post when I get to it. Why not prosecute the purchaser of prostitution? Without them, it wouldn't exist.

I was noticing how many stories there were on the msm today about monogamy- and how it is not a “natural” state for humans - or in the animal kingdom don’chknow.
We are, afterall, just animals, and are obeying the call of the wild.
So when democrats have a scandal, the “news” is that monogamy is too much to ask of people.
When a republican gets caught in a scandal the news is about the hypocricy of republicans.
