Ashiqi's comments came after a declaration launched by the papal nuncio of the Persian Gulf, the archbishop Mounged El-Hachem, at the opening of the first Catholic church in Qatar last week.

El-Hachem estimated three to four million Christians in the Saudi kingdom who want to have a church.

A member of Saudi Arabia's Consultative Council, Abdelaziz al-Thinani, rejected the prelate's claims saying that there were no Christians among the Saudis who were all Muslims.

He says this knowing full well that even if the Pope were to bend, they still wouldnt have to live up to their promise until virtually every Christian church on the planet recognized the Prophet Mohammed as a legitimate prophet. If the churches were to do such a thing, the very act of recognizing Mohammed as a legitimate prophet would legitimize his teachings in which he portrays Jesus simply as another prophet and not the son of god. This would nullify the entire Christian faith so of course they will never do such a thing.

Talk about a bunch of double talk which makes it appear as if he is willing to compromise but upon scrutiny is offering no compromise at all. How typical of the Saudi representatives. It is also typical reporting which while not neccesarily biasing the information, does not point out the obvious fact that this offer of compromise is nothing of the sort.
