Vaccine Failure Means Setback in AIDS Fight
FOXNews.com ^ | Friday, March 21, 2008 | FOXNews.com

The two-decade search for an AIDS vaccine is in crisis after two field tests of the most promising contender not only did not protect people from the virus but may actually have put them at increased risk of becoming infected, The Washington Post reported.

Experts are questioning the overall strategy and scientific premises of the nearly $500 million in AIDS vaccine research funded annually by the government after the two field tests were halted last September and seven other trials of AIDS vaccines have either been stopped or put off indefinitely.

The recently closed studies, STEP and Phambili, were halted when it became clear the STEP study was futile and possibly harmful.

Let me make one thing clear here and now:

Except for the innocent victims of HIV, ie people infected in utero, through rape, from blood transfusions or other medical procedures, I DO NOT CARE what happens to HIV/AIDS victims.

For the sake of the innocent, a very small number in relation to the total, I support research. For all others who, through self-destructive behavior, get infected, in my opinion they should be quarantined, the same as lepers used to be, for the protection of all.

Furthermore, it is not the responsibility of the US taxpayer to care for these self-destructive people whether they live in the US or Africa.

Thirdly any attempt to make me feel guilty about my opinion is doomed to fail. Anyone who wants to call me names (like “unChristian”) is free to do so. It does not have any impact on me. I am not perfect.

Anyone who has ever been a nurse for an innocent victim of HIV/AIDS, like a kid who had a tainted transfusion after an auto accident, is not going to feel very Christian toward those who insist that the real cause of the HIV pandemic is that not enough Americans pay high enough taxes to subsidize homosexual promiscuity all over the world.

No, this is nothing to celebrate. Yes, your figures are inflated according to your agenda: which is getting more money out of America for whatever purpose. I could not care LESS what the UN wants to do about HIV/AIDS. The only way to end the scourge is through standard public health measures, which the prima donna GLBT community will not tolerate.

So—they can all die, as far as I’m concerned. The innocent victims will have their own tale to tell to God in Heaven about the disease. The rest can go to hell.

An aids vaccine certainly has some utility, particularly for health care workers and others at possible risk for infection.

But for homosexuals and drug addicts, it was always a pointless exercise. Even if aids were conquered, there will always be new and different infections and health crisis attached to these unhealthful behaviors popping up.

Long before aids was discovered, an old doctor friend of mine told me young homosexual men would suddenly get mysteriously and deathly ill at a much higher rate than the general population.

Conquering aids would do nothing for the long term health of gays.

The solution is there for all to see.

Stop the destructive, immoral behavior.

It’s easy. It’s free. It works.

And ladies and gentlemen, this is why people believe conservatives are morons.

No, they fill in their beliefs with projections of what people didn't say in order to have an argument.

Let's simply ignore the people, like children, who contract HIV infections without any sort of immorality on their parts. Hey let's let them die because stupid conservatives think you can only get HIV from receptive anal sex.

No conservative said that, but if it makes you feel superior go for it.

“Since when did expecting personal responsibility and accountability translate into celebrating the failure of finding a vaccine? Those infected with AIDS/HIV could stop this epidemic in one generation for free if they so choose.”

Thanks for the ping!

I am not too surprised with the attitude of some liberals.
Changing stats fits with the “ends justifies the means” policy.

slander? No, just typical leftist “debate” tactics and “reasoning”.

It’s called “misrepresenting your opponent” and it’s what leftists do consistently,

because their position doesn’t hold up otherwise.

Most of the research you cite is 15-20 years old and reflects the old bath-house culture of the late 70’s.

Since I’m not familiar with the lifestyle, could you tell me if it’s better or worse than the references I cited?

He’s a bigot because he’s not familiar with the old bath house culture?

What’s your problem?

Thank you. We’re not interested in being *educated*. There are some things that just ought to be kept in the closet; they’re not worth knowing.

“I have no interest in educating bigots.”

ffusco: .....and I have no interest in knowing what guys do or did in the bathhouses back in the 70’s.

Please do not respond. You’re giving me the creeps.

You misread my post. His data IS about the old bath house culture. He’s a bigot because he has a clip-board of data about Gays that is a generation out of date that he pastes onto threads like these. Gays had a higher rate of alcoholism and suicide 20 years ago because they had no legal protection and were closeted and subject to being terminated or denied visitation to their children, or beaten up. His statistics about number of partners also reflect a pre-AIDS lifestyle that has changed as well. Most Gays want stable monogamous relationships like everyone else.
