Obama Woke The Sleeping Giant
America Talks ^ | 3/22/08 | David Zublick

Posted on 03/22/2008 7:38:34 AM PDT by AmericaTalks

Barack Obama has based his entire candidacy on one thing. He wanted to be the first African-American to run for the presidency keeping the issue of race as far into the background as possible. And he almost succeeded in pulling the wool over America's eyes.

His good looks and charismatic appeal made many people view him as the next JFK. Some even thought of him as the second coming of Jesus Christ. We've all seen the pictures of him wowing the crowds with his oratories, women swooning, men cheering. And these were people of all races and creeds, desperate for a candidate who could transcend the barrier of hatred that has so divided this country over its entire history. Even those of us who are conservative, and who despise the misguided vision of the left had to admit that here was a man who broke through the walls that have kept our nation disunited for some 200-plus years.

But wait.

Were we really that far apart? What I mean is...the wounds of racial hatred have, over the past 20 years or so, been healing. The average American, black and white, doesn't harbor any ill will over those of other ethnicities. Most of us get along quite well. We didn't need a guy like Obama to remind us that race should not be an issue. The fact that he was embraced by the voting public should have been an indication that America was ready to put bigotry behind it and accept a black candidate.

And then Obama blew it.

We suddenly find out that we knew absolutely nothing about this guy called Barack Obama. For twenty years, he attended a church in Chicago pastored by a racist whose hatred for America, and especially whites in America, is blatant. Reverend Jeremiah Wright believes our nation was responsible for the attacks of 9-11, and that aids was created to exterminate the black race.

Obama then gave a speech in which acted as an apologist for Wright and refused to disown him. In fact, he continues to embrace him.

That's when the sleeping giant was awakened. The campaign that was supposed to eliminate color suddenly found itself embroiled in controversy. Obama pulled the scabs from the healing wounds of racial divide and now the issue of race is on the front burner.

Will Obama's candidacy be hurt by this? Most certainly. Will his continued association with this church be scrutinized? Absolutely. Will Hillary Clinton and John McCain benefit? You bet.

Will America suffer?

It already has.

If you want to see just how much better races relations have improved, eliminate welfare and welfare-related entitlement spending. Then, sit back and feel the love.

"The wounds of racial hatred have, over the past 20 years or so, been healing."

Can't prove this to me from what I've been seeing around here for the past several years. If anything there is more tension and consciousness of Race as the Race Baiters have been left to run amok. I think we're going backwards in very many ways.

Didn't Allan Keys run for President? Actually, I liked him...I thought he was a very conservative individual.

Even white liberals will stumble into the truth once in a while.

“Were we really that far apart?”

The only things that are keeping us far apart is the mindset that permeates “black liberation theology,” the so-called “black leaders” such as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, and the liberal victicrat ideology that has been spoon-fed to blacks by leftists.

These people will go to great lengths to keep the division alive, to keep the wedge driven into race relations as far as possible, because without it they have no lucrative job, they enjoy no power, and they hold no congregation or base of voters.

People like Obama and his pastor are the REASON for the racial divide.

“”the wounds of racial hatred have, over the past 20 years or so, been healing. “”

And then along came Johnny Cochran and OJ Simpson - to stoke the fires once again and off we went! That was a big set back and we’ll probably never get where we were before that.

"The wounds of racial hatred have, over the past 20 years or so, been healing."

There will always be a certain percentage of racists in society, within each race. However, things have certainly changed since the 60's. I don't know how much they have changed in the past 20 years, but in the past 40 years, there is a huge difference.

But as long as there are programs like affirmative action, which favor one group over another only on the basis of race, there will always be a certain amount of resentment on both sides because of the unfairness of the system, on the one hand, and the frustrated sense of entitlement on the other. Frustrated, because the basic premise seems to be that opportunity equals success - a formula which raises expectations but cannot fulfill its promises.
