HALPERIN’S TAKE: Painful Things Hillary Clinton Knows — Or Should Know
Time ^ | March 23, 2008 | Mark Halperin

Posted on 03/23/2008 1:58:44 AM PDT by cdchik123

1. She can’t win the nomination without overturning the will of the elected delegates, which will alienate many Democrats.

2. She can’t win the nomination without a bloody convention battle — after which, even if she won, history and many Democrats would cast her as a villain.

3. Catching up in the popular vote is not out of the question — but without re-votes in Florida and Michigan it will be almost as impossible as catching up in elected delegates.

4. Nancy Pelosi and other leading members of Congress don’t think she can win and want her to give up. Same with superdelegate-to-the-stars Donna Brazile.

5. Obama’s skilled, close-knit staff can do things like silently kill re-votes in Florida and Michigan and not pay a political price.

6. Many of her supporters — and even some of her staffers — would be relieved (and even delighted) if she quit the race; none of his supporters or staff feel that way. Some think she just might throw in the towel in June if it appears efforts to fight on would hurt Obama’s general election chances.

7. The Rev. Wright story notwithstanding, the media still wants Obama to be the nominee — and that has an impact every day.

Hey Mark... does that still add up to 15 points in the polls? And who did 'the media' want the Republican nominee to be?

Don't bother replying... we know... NOBODY.

Some think she just might throw in the towel in June if it appears efforts to fight on would hurt Obama’s general election chances.

Are they serious? She just pulled of the exposure of the greatest "Black Racist Hate Scandal" in contemporary times. She's tainted black racist churches and shown them for what they are: madrassas-like propaganda machines nurturing racial divide and hatred amongst any black who attend, down to Obama's 6 and 8 YO daughters.

Hurt his chances? I only wish a real republican was running for President. All they'd need do is pop their head up some time in late October and say "Hey! There's me!" and he have a cake walk to the Oval Office. I only wish Thompson or Hunter announced October 2008 rather than last summer.

Heck, McCain only had some 3 million in the bank on the last entry I saw:

Total Receipts: $64,654,539

Total Spent : $56,657,944

Cash on Hand : $7,996,595

Debts : $4,340,981

Date of last report: February 29, 2008

Rush Limbaugh may revel in "Operation Chaos", however "Operation RINO" has killed the republican party.

I'm still returning those RNC envelopes with "NO MCCAIN", "I'M A CONSERVATIVE, NOT A REPUBLICAN" or worse written in big black letters.

You know, why do I get this feeling that McCain is going to pick a "nob nibbler" like Charlie Crist or someone else completely unacceptable? He's done everything else he can to prove he's a rat.

“And who did ‘the media’ want the Republican nominee to be?”

Isn’t it obvious?

The media has set this country up by choosing the candidates THEY wanted, on both sides. They wanted Obama vs. McCain so they can have the fresh, young biracial newcomer vs. old, white and angry McCain

that will be the storyline in the general election.

If you think the shilling for Obama was bad in the media during the primaries, wait till the GE. If they trashed Hillary what will they do to a Republican?

the question is, will the American people fall for it?

Even if all the above is true, which I am not going to contest because I really don’t care, what makes anyone think Hillary gives a rodent’s rectum?

This is her turn, dammit! In fact, she knows full well it’s her only chance. She has to fight on.

If she gives in, four years from now Obama will either be running for reelection or he will be the presumptive challenger to McCain’s second term.

Hillary will be nowhere to be found.

Obama won't be the 'RAT nominee in 2012 if McCain beats him in 2008. The delicious thing about this cycle is the possibility of permanently destroying the political viability of two long term 'RAT candidates. Quite frankly if Obama gets the nomination but loses strongly in the general election in November, I wouldn't be surprised if Republicans in Illinois try to knock him off when his seat comes up again in 2010. His huge 2004 election margin was a fluke caused by the inadequate vetting of the Republican nominee who later had to withdraw.

Hillary will stay in until the convention and hope (or plot) that something extremely dreadful, even illegal surfaces about Obama. Something that would give all his supporters cover to “disown” him.

If it doesn’t happen, she will withdraw - but it will be at the convention, not before. IMO.

Either way, both candidates lose on this one. What sort of party would do this to two of the larger state delgations to the convention? What were they thinking of?

The Stalinist hillary is diabocal and lusts for power. She will not take one for the party and fall on her sword. She doesn’t care about the party. We’ll see blood on the streets during and after the convention.

My prediction is that she’ll be the most hated woman in American history by Sept. 1, 2008, and things will go downhill from there. And should the leftist media back her and attack Mr. McCain’s military record, the blowback will reach huuricane force and demolish the old Marxist media.

People are not happy right now.

I wish we had a better candidate.

Hussein can not win in the GE in November. The DNC knows this and wants to resolve the uncivil civil war before the convention. The DNC wants the WH in 2008 like never before. If they think their candidate of the day will not win, they will throw that candidate under the bus and go with plan B. Operation chaos has derailed their presidential party strategy.

The Clintons are not done with their attempts to unmask the "msm's chosen one". This for them is political survival. There is no 2012 if they are defeated in 2008. The reverend Wright incident was a body punch. The knockout punch has yet to be delivered and it is coming....

I don’t know where the “experts” get their calcuations from regarding the popular vote. Example, if 2 million Dems vote in PA and Hillary wins 2-1, she has there alone made up the 700,000 vote deficit against Mr. Wright’s parishioner.

I agree. She still talks as if she will win the nomination. The Clintons are not used to losing and they will fight it to their last breath. If she fails to get the nomination, they want to make sure that Obama does not win the election so that he will be the incumbent in 2012.

I don't believe that we have heard the last of the Rev. Wright saga. Believe it or not, there are many people that have not even heard about him because they will not really pay attention to the presidential race until after the conventions and the nominees are settled. There are not enough blacks in the South to overcome the unwillingness of some conservative Democrats to (1) vote for a black man and (2) vote for someone who listened to such a racist, hate-filled minister for 20 years.

BTW, there are some conservative commentators who think that Rev. Wright himself is trying to sabotage Obama in order to validate his belief that a black man would not have a chance to be elected POTUS because of America is a racist country dedicated to keeping uppity blacks in their place. Obama's attempt to win the nomination without having Rev. Wright and his vile rhetoric in the forefront can not be making him happy!

ABC, CBS and NBC have copies of his films and his radio broadcasts. Even though McCain has managed to get a law passed to censure them there is no doubt that they will make their way to the internet next October.

3. Catching up in the popular vote is not out of the question — but without re-votes in Florida and Michigan it will be almost as impossible as catching up in elected delegates.

She'll hang her hat on creating poll numbers that show that if these two were included, she would be ahead. (actually better for her to have them hanging, than have actual new primaries). She will then run on a platform of disenfranchisement, and claim she is the real leader when are the votes are actually counted.

McCain's Vietnam dirty laundry can be summarized in just three words:

"His father's name."

McCain gave it up to get medical treatment after his crash in North Vietnam. Then he lied about it in his book and on the campaign trail.

Every intelligence service and major media outlet on the planet knows about it. His former KGB interrogators have probably sold the information to the highest bidder--and it has probably been resold more often than a used DVD on Amazon.

When McCain sees it covered by the MSM his famous temper will blow--game, set, and match.

I think what we're seeing is the Arkansas mafia led by the Clintons causing all kinds of trouble for Senator Obama's campaign.

And it could get much scarier: imagine if Senator Clinton's campaign office starts to dig up dirt on one Oprah Winfrey, which could SERIOUSLY undermine the Obama campaign in very short order. That could get extremely ugly and the prospect of a fracas between the powerful US Northeastern Democrats (which support Clinton) and just as powerful Midwest Democrats (which support Obama) that sunders the Democratic Party is not so ridiculously far-fetched.

Us, too. We stuff all the crap they send us along with a “gringo peso” or two and return to sender — in their own prepaid envelope.

It’s pretty funny — Mrs. Tick has told them in nice letters that we’re disappointed with the RNC’s performance and wish to be taken off their mailing list — which only brings a further flood of junk mail!

We gave generously to the RNC from 2002 to 2004. Since the entire republican party has shifted towards representing a different base, they need to send their funding requests to that new base (democrats, liberals, and “moderates”).

Al Gore got 90% of the black vote and that made him president. Right?

Democrats cannot win elections at any level without a solidified black vote. If republicans could just split the black vote that would be the end of the democratic party.

Hillary is up 26 points over Obama in PA this morning; if you translate that into percentages, its 63-37, which is awfully close to 2-1. If this holds, and 2 million Penns vote, she beats Obama by 520,000 votes, leaving only 180,000 to be made up in the remaining primary states (Kentucky, Indiana and a few others where she is favored to win) and she could take the Dem popular vote.

You left out NC where Obama is ahead. The Clintons have set up the phony standard of the popular vote, but that is not the way pledged delegates are chosen. Obama won Texas in terms of delegates, yet the MSM and the Clintons portray it as a victory for Hillary.
