MOSUL Iraqi citizens treated Coalition force Soldiers observing the Islamic celebration of Mawlid in the Mosul neighborhood of al-Habda.
The Islamic celebration of Mawlid is held in recognition of the Prophet Muhammads birthday. The residents were practicing the tradition of charity as part of the celebrations activities.
Muslims all over the world are celebrating. They cook food and offer it to friends, or exchange chocolates, said Ibrahim Shahd, a Muslim and interpreter for Coalition forces. We do this to share our joy at receiving Gods messenger. In the Mosques, there will be singing and poetry recited, telling the story of Muhammad and the Holy Koran.
The Iraqi peoples celebration also impressed the CF Soldiers.
It was really neat, kids were giving me candy, instead of me giving it to them, said 1st Lt. Jeremy Glossen, a platoon leader. It was nice to see the kids out on all the streets and smiling, obviously proud to take part in the days celebration.
Sunni Muslims practiced the holiday March 20, while Shia Muslims will recognize the holiday March 25.

America’s finest / Iraq’s finest.
We don't have time for this slow melting of the heart approach. And we don't have the leadership to try anything else.
Stop the American billions and BLOOD for islam.
