Muslim Converted By Pope Says Life In More Danger

March 23, 2008

By Philip Pullella

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - An outspoken Muslim author and critic of Islamic fundamentalism who converted to Christianity at the hands of Pope Benedict said on Sunday he realized he was in greater danger but he has no regrets. ADVERTISEMENT

"I realize what I am going up against but I will confront my fate with my head high, with my back straight and the interior strength of one who is certain about his faith," said Magdi Allam.

In a surprise move on Saturday night, the pope baptized the 55-year-old, Egyptian-born Allam at an Easter eve service in St Peter's Basilica that was broadcast around the world.

The conversion of Allam to Christianity -- he took the name "Christian" for his baptism -- was kept secret until the Vatican disclosed it in a statement less than an hour before it began.

Writing in Sunday's edition of the leading Corriere della Sera, the newspaper of which he is a deputy director, Allam said: "... the root of evil is innate in an Islam that is physiologically violent and historically conflictual."

Allam, who is a strong supporter of Israel and who an Israeli newspaper once called a "Muslim Zionist," has lived under police protection following threats against him, particularly after he criticized Iran's position on Israel.

His conversion, which he called "the happiest day of my life," came just two days after al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden accused the pope of being part of a "new crusade" against Islam.

Well, he and the Church have done everything possible to publicize this, thereby adding fuel to the paranoid hysterics of the Islamofscists. And for what point?

If Muslims had any degree of introspection at all...wouldn’t you think they would wonder about a “religion” that ordered the murder of people who no longer believed?

What’s the point of forcing people to worship God in a particular. Does God demand slaves?

What’s wrong with these people?

Muslims have about as much introspection as J. Wright during an anti-American hate-rant.

Their vision of god is a vicious killer who's whole purpose in the universe is to "take out" anyone who is not an abject slave. Hence: Submission.

What's wrong with these people? That's easy. Their brains are infected with the lethal metavirus called Islam.

In their sick view, killing critics is just a way of serving god. Very, very sick.

Perhaps they are just boldly stepping out in courage and in faith, speaking the Truth. If EVERYONE worries about adding fuel to the paranoid hysterics, what a bunch of mealy-mouths we would all be.

But instead, the foremost Christian leader in the world courageously stands by a man who wishes to convert. The world will watch — will the Religion of Peace Folks assassinate him for daring to believe? The world will see that. Will the RoP folks leave him free to worship as he pleases? The world will see that, too. Will the Muzzies around the world riot in fury? We will also see that.

I pray for this Pope every day. He is such a great leader.

So what if they did. We have a God-given, inalienable right to believe anything we want to believe. It would be anyone who would want to do harm to either of these two who are in the wrong.

I heard someone complaining in KOA that "why was the Pope baptizing this guy, what's he trying to say, something political?"

But he's doing what he should be doing, emphasizing the gospel is for all, and the doors are open for muslims.

>>Well Done to the Pope for sticking it to the Muslim hordes...<<

Its only sticking it to them to the extent that they reject free choice.

If they act the way they expect us to act there is no issue.

The Church has done NOTHING to publicize this. The publicity came from CNN, actually. In Church notices, he was simply identified as an Italian intellectual who is an editor of Corriera della Sera.

Obviously, the Muslims were going to find out. And the problem with that is - what? Don’t you think we should be working to convert the Muslims? This might make some of them think.

The point is that we should not give a damn about what those insane f**ks think. Why should we hide when Muslims convert to Christianity they certainly don’t hide their goal to convert all of us by choice or sword. A friend of mine converted to Islam. So what? I’m tired of playing the game of walking on pins and needles trying not to offend the chronically offended. May God show them the way to Heaven or else may they find themselves in hell. As for this present world they will have to grow up and learn to live with the fact that others will NOT submit to their will.

I can't help thinking of the bold martyrs for the faith in the earliest centuries of Christianity, many of whom were catechumens or recent converts, like Perpetua and Felicity and their companions, or the Baptismal group slain with Bishop Boniface.

Yes and draw cartoons even. Islamists really get all upset about cartoons.
