Obama staff mum on Tiffany's purchase
NY Daily News ^ | March 23rd 2008, 4:00 AM | Michael Saul

Barack Obama's campaign tossed around nearly $600 at Tiffany's last month - for a trinket that remains a secret.

Obama's team tapped his flush campaign bank account to pay the $572.25 tab at the famed jeweler last month, recently released federal fund-raising records show.

When asked about the curious expenditure, campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki said, "That was mistakenly charged to a campaign credit card and the money has been refunded to the campaign."

Psaki insisted that the senator did not make the purchase himself but she refused to say whether the gift was in any way connected to him or his family.

Did Obama buy Michelle jewelry with campaign money? His campaign should answer that question. New York governor Paterson is being scrutinized for the same reason. Will media darling Obama be subjected to the same standard?

Gotta be kidding me. Nobody cared when Mrs. Klinton was using AF One and military C-9 & C-21 jets as her personal charter service to go all over Europe, Asia, and Australia to give a token speech and then spend the rest of the week shopping with her daughter.

Now people suddenly care that Obama used $600 to buy jewelry for his wife (if it's even true)? In general, how much campaign money (for all candidates) goes to buy the staff steak dinners, fine wines, and expensive hotel stays? I'm not condoning it, I just find it interesting that people suddenly care.

Oh hell....don’t you racist white fools realize you can never pay enough reparations or kiss enough XXX to gain forgiveness for something that happened to the rabble rouser’s ancestors - done to them by their own ancestors and folks who have NO CONNECTION to your or your family?< /sarcasm>

Just shut-up and keep pretending they and their leaders will ever become simply AMERICANS.

My sympathies remain with the blacks who have MADE the connection with America - and have become AMERICANS in every sense of the word and spirit....

The crime is for them to be diminished in any way by the fallout sure to come from the Rev. Wrights and other preachers of “Black Liberation Theology”.

I shudder to think they may have been a smaller minority that I had previously believed them to be.....
Very sad indeed.

It wouldn't be the first time that Obama diverted funds for his or his wife's, or even his friend's personal use.

Obama's Earmarks: $1 Million for Wife's Hospital

Michelle Obama's salary at UC Hospitals when her husband won the US Senate seat was $121,000. Within weeks of his swearing in, the salary went to over $320,000. She's now VP for Community Affairs.
So did the taxpayers end up paying for Michelle's pay raise for Barack's six year term?

http://weblogs.chicagotribune.com/news/politics/blog/2008/03/michelle_obamas_hospital.html

BITTER MICHELLE OBAMA URGES THE POOR TO AVOID COLLEGE AND CORPORATE AMERICA[Reported by Deal Breaker and Asia Times]

Michelle Obama, the Princeton graduate who went to Harvard Law School before joining the mega corporate law firm Sidley & Austin, told an audience of working mothers at a daycare center in Zanesville, Ohio: College isn't worth it and you should stay out of corporate America. Better if they stay in their place, back in "the community.""We left corporate America, which is a lot of what we're asking young people to do. Don't go into corporate America. You know, become teachers. Work for the community. Be social workers. Be a nurse. Those are the careers that we need, and we're encouraging our young people to do that. But if you make that choice, as we did, to move out of the money-making industry into the helping industry, then your salaries respond."

According to the U.S. Census, Muskingum County, where Zanesville is located, had a median household income of $37,192 in 2004, below both the Ohio and national averages. Just 12.2 percent of adults in the county have a bachelor's degree or higher, also well below the state and national averages. About 20 percent don't have a high school degree.

Moreover, as the Asia Times points out:

" But she did not leave corporate America. She did leave the corporate law firm that hired her out of Harvard Law School, but there is no reason to believe that idealism drove that decision. The major law firms make partners out of a fifth of their new hires, who slave for years for the opportunity. Michelle Obama was not partner material for a top firm. She took more than a year to pass the Illinois Bar Examination, a substandard result, and - as her thesis makes clear - lacked the command of written English required for legal success. Her skills were better suited to the hospital position she eventually filled. Not only did she sell out, but she sold out for mediocre results."

"But it was not only Senator Obama's writing income, it was Michelle's $200,000 salary increase and corporate directorships following his election to the US Senate that made the family prosperous. And it wasn't just piano lessons and summer camp, but a mansion in the Chicago suburb that represented an adequate price for Michelle's soul."

The Asia Times was referring to Michelle Obama's Princeton senior thesis - the one that the Obama campaign initially suppressed, and Michelle initially claimed she could not recall the contents of.

In it Michelle Obama expresses her bitterness to white America, and praises the 'black separatists." All of this coupled with Michelle Obama's recent admission that she was not really proud to be an American (at least until her husband ran for president and became the Democratic frontrunner) casts doubt on whether this power couple is ready for prime time - let alone the White House.

Let's hope it WAS for his wife - otherwise, he'll have some 'splaining to do...

On second thought, let's hope it's NOT for his wife...which would be more plausible - cover the expenditure from her by going through campaign funds = no matter, you can bet your bippy he will have this covered with a story - like an inadvertent purchase by a campaign worker - high enough up to have unsupervised use of a credit card.

One thing I hope people will remember, we won't hear the truth out of the disassembler's mouth until and unless the truth first comes out from another source.

BTW, Behind Liberal Lines, what's the connection with Blondie?
