CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- A US Airways pilot’s gun accidentally discharged during a flight from Denver to Charlotte Saturday, according to as statement released by the airline. The statement said the discharge happened on Flight 1536, which left Denver at approximately 6:45am and arrived in Charlotte at approximately 11:51am.
The Airbus A319 plane landed safely and none of the flight’s 124 passengers or five crew members was injured, according to the statement. It was a full flight. An airline spokeswoman said the plane has been taken out of service to make sure it is safe to return to flight. A Transportation Safety Administration spokeswoman reached by WCNC Sunday said the pilot is part of TSA’s Federal Flight Deck Officer (FFDO) program, which trains pilots to carry guns on flights.

Dollars to donuts the pilot was playing with it. Weapons don’t “accidently” discharge without someone pulling a trigger. In all my years of being around weapons I have never had one discharge without some input from me.
Are they going to look for the bullet...did the bullet exit the aircraft??? and hit the EARTH??? or, or, or !!!

Unless it ws a Glock shoved into a flight bag without being in a holster. The “safety” is on the trigger and it can go off without being handled. Something presses on the trigger and *BANG*.

It most likely flew at least 5 miles before hitting another airplane. Thankfully that airplane was able to land safely as well.

Glocks do ...
Glocks are designed for cops and gangbangers. A real gun is more along the lines of a 1911. A Beretta is slso a far better weapon than a Glock.
Please cite a single real event where a Glock discharged a round without the trigger being depressed.

Revolvers don’t have trigger safeties. Glocks have that totally stupid and useless trigger safety.
I have a round in the chamber AT ALL TIMES, but I only carry those with external thumb-operated safeties. I wouldn’t own a Glock personally.

Your opinion means little to a person like me who has carried a Glock since the 90’s without a single incident where it jumped off my desk and started discharging rounds.
I agree that the stupid and untrained should rely on several safety’s.

Revolvers don’t have safeties at all.
Why didn’t you jump to the conclusion that it was a revolver rather than a Glock?
That’s just it. The Glock trigger can be depressed and the gun fired without having a finger on the trigger. They have discharged when being forced into a tight (new) holster and they can also discharge in purses or handbags where a lipstick case or a pen can work its way into the trigger guard and press on the trigger. I’ve seen several reports of such NDs with Glocks. I refuse to have one. Better to have no safety at all than a stupid safety.

I don’t know why anyone would carry a pistol with a round chambered in an aircraft unless he was expecting big trouble. It’s not like it’s takes a long time to rack a slide. (I assume he wasn’t carrying a revolver.)
Even if you were going to parachute into combat, I don’t think you would exit the aircraft with a round chambered in your weapon.

I believe pilots are all supposed to carry H&K USP’s. If so, there’s no ‘accident’ possible.
