The Obama Crash and Burn (Hanson gives great news and is hilarious)
NRO (National Review Online) ^ | Monday, 3/24/08 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 03/24/2008 2:09:31 PM PDT by poinq

. . . Over the past four days, I asked seven or eight random (Asian, Mexican-American, and working-class white) Americans in southern California what they thought of Obama’s candidacy — and framed the question with, “Don’t you think that was a good speech?” The answers, without exception, were essentially: “Forget the speech. I would never vote for Obama after listening to Wright.” In some cases, the reaction was not mild disappointment, but unprintable outrage.

. . . The sure thing of Democrats winning big in the House and Senate is now in danger of a scenario in which a would-be Senator or Representative explains all autumn long that the party masthead really does not like Rev. Wright, whose massive corpus of buffoonery no doubt is still to be mined. (The problem was never “snippets,” but entire speeches devoted to hatred and anger, often carefully outlined in a point-by-point format).

What is the remedy?

I would go buy about 10,000 American flags to blanket every Obama appearance, have a 4x4 lapel-button flag custom-made for the senator, have Michelle finish every appearance by leading a chorus of “God Bless America,” draft every middle-of-the-road crusty drawling Democratic veteran (the knightly Harris Wofford doesn’t cut it) to criss-cross the country — and try to Trotskyize Rev. Wright from the campaign.

The bad news is Obama will win the Democratic nomination. The good news is he will likely lose in November. Operation Chaos rocks! And I still loathe McCain.

Is Hanson calling for Wright to get an icepick in the neck from an Obama supporter? Maybe they could do it in Mexico City.

Do not underestimate BDS. My left winger brother is a racist, plain and simple. He even made a joke about how “when” Obama is elected reparations will be a reality. And then took a more serious tone, began to sympathize with prejudice that blacks deal with today. Told me that Rev. Wright’s comments were blown up, out of context. To my amazement, my brother will vote Obama, and will do his best to get everyone he knows to do the same.

My brother admitted McCain is a liberal, but said he couldn’t vote Republican after all the “evil” Bush and Cheney have done.

Sadly, my brother is a moron, but that makes him part of the crowd among Democrats.

My in-laws unfortunately are enthralled with the Obamessiah, and gave me a full text copy of his “wonderful” speech. I told them I read it 2 times already and it’s a bunch of crap. How can you put your family on par with a pastor? Especially one like his? He practices the politics of envy, hatred, and class warfare, all crap. My mother in law just said, well I’ll let Mrs. VPINTHEAK read it then. I said OK, see you later. Mrs. VPINTHEAK is not fooled.

If Michelle sings anything like hilliary does, that would be an additional detriment to his campaign.

They can put all the flags behind him and lapel pins on him they want and we will still know he is a socialist who hates whites and America.

Yeah, I was kind of wondering about that Trotsky throwaway line, too.

Maybe they’d better send out a Secret Service detail to protect the Reverend Wright.

I assume these are the same people who were stunned when black people cheered OJ for getting off scott-free after killing his white wife?

The MSM portrayal of black people and black churches is a lie. A well meaning lie, but a lie none-the-less. And it's a lie that keeps racism alive.

The first step to put racism behind us is to get real about the issue.

I deal with couple guys that are right in there with your brother, and concur.

That said, there are also some middle of the roaders who can’t stand Bush, can’t stand Hillary, and probably would have voted for Obama, up until now. At this point, they’re leaning McCain.

I took it as taking a 'hero of the revolution', and turning him into a 'non-person'...Erasing his picture from photographs with the party's apparatchik.

No, I think VDH is alluding to the Soviet practice of airbrushing out of their history books prominant figures who, for ideological or other reasons, had become "unpersons" no longer to be remembered, mentioned, or even thought about.

In some cases, little kits containing a replacement photograph with the unperson airbrushed would be sent out to libraries; in the kit was little tube of glue, a razor blade, and instructions explaining on what page the offending image would be found and how to substitute the new image for the old. In particular, this procedure was done many times with a massive tome called The Great Soviet Encyclopedia, and may have been done specifically in Trotsky's case. I wouldn't doubt the historical accuracy of anything VDH says, even as a joke.

Scroll down to the section heading "Trivia" at this location to see what I mean:

Let's see:
Republicans tried to boost two intelligent and articulate black persons into a position were they might run: both bombed (badly).
Eager to catch up, the dems grabbed the only available (virtually unknown) black person they could think of, and ran him against their first female candidate (FBI files) with any chance of election.
Deeply masochistic, they created superdelegates and the states scheduled primaries based on 50 coin tosses.
Secure in their Deaniac concept of authority, the DNC ousted two renegade states:

The People's Party is now stalemated and set for a historic confrontation.

The only beneficiary in all this is a RINO who is despised by a quarter of the republican party but available for adoration by "independents" and democrats frightened off by the Obamassiah and/or finally sick of the Clinton duet.

There's a real democrat out there, but he's an independent.

There is a real, multifaceted, conservative out there, but no one listened.

If Hillary is not nominated, half the moonbats in America will dig their bongs and tie dies out of hiding and go on parade.
If Obama is not nominated, the other half will dig up their berets and bricks and do the same, sort of.

If McCain beats either selection, lawyers will descend on the courts to prove that it was all a republican (rich, white, male) conspiracy and that both Wright and BJC were intentionally misquoted, out of context; or maybe the words were dubbed in during transmission...

The best we can hope for is more Jorge Bush, with a hostile congress, a distrustful right wing, and an irate left wing.
The worst is an untested, overtly racist, smooth talking, snake oil salesman, who doesn't like the rest of us and thinks Iran is simply misunderstood. Who isn't too fond of Israel, business, savings, or individual rights, and even scares the machine that put him forward.

In between, unbelievably, is another clinton administration.

Quite a political system we've got here, so much more stately without the fright wigs and floppy shoes.

The bright side is that Oprah has gone back to swooning housewives and free bags of cosmetics; and eating.

PS: In keeping with the growing trend toward musical politicians, does the newly macho Bill Richardson play the accordion?
(Watch for the sombrero in his next Obama fete...but it's not racism, honest.)

Aware of the airbrushing techniques. It’s just that when I hear Trotsky my mental image is of something more dramatic than the airbrushing.

I have spoken!”
