DETROIT - Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his former top aide have pleaded not guilty to charges they lied under oath about having an affair.
The mayor and former Chief of Staff Christine Beatty were arraigned Tuesday. Not guilty pleas were entered for them on charges of perjury, conspiracy, obstruction of justice and misconduct in office.
Both are accused of lying under oath about an affair and their roles in the firing of a top police official. Steamy text messages first reported by the Detroit Free Press revealed a flirty, sometimes explicit, dialogue between the two.
Attorneys for both say their clients will be exonerated.

For those who don’t know, Christine Beatty is the one who told the Detroit traffic cop “Do you know who the f-— I am?” while she called the police chief on her cell phone.
Guess we know who she is now.

A fact of modern day life is that any prominent person's mug shot is going to be widely disseminated far and wide across the internet within hours. Therefore, no, you're not going to see anything but the subjects best attempt at showing what they want you to see.

And who’s going to negotiate the deal for Beatty to turn state’s evidence? Morganroth? Y’all beginning to understand why the prosecution raised the issue of Morganroth’s conflict of interest at Beatty’s arraignment?
How can the prosecutors approach Morganroth with an offer of immunity for Beatty in exchange for her testimony against Kwame, when Morganroth also represents Kwame in the Tamara Greene case? It’s clear that he can’t represent them both.
This whole thing is so slimey! Who’s paying Morganroth’s fees? Who selected him to represent Beatty? She should get herself another attorney pronto!
Maybe Beatty is too scared to depart from the party line. She has kids and she doesn’t want to end up like Tamara Greene. This is a vicious bunch.
Pass the popcorn.... This is going to be very interesting to watch.
Ah ha!! Maybe there is a plea and/or immunity in Ms. Beatty’s future!

Apparently, I jumped the gun with first reports. Morganroth is gone only from representing the city in the Tamara Greene case. He continues to represent Kwame!! And that’s where the conflict of interest lies. He can’t represent Beatty with the possibility of her testifying against Kwame in exchange for immunity.
And all of Morganroth’s protestations about the conflict of interest “raised by the media” and noted on the record by Prosecutor Moran at the arraignment are just disingenuous! Man! I thought Moran’s informing the court of Morganroth’s conflict of interest was a clear signal that the prosecution would like to negotiate with Beatty.
Morganroth cannot represent Beatty and what he is doing is unethical.
