Will the preachings of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright continue to be a problem for Barack Obama? The balance of opinion, after everyone has had a chance to digest Obama's March 18 speech, seems to be yes. Or at least that's how I read such varied commentators as ABC News's Jake Tapper, Charles Krauthammer, the New Republic's Dayo Opolade, University of Chicago Prof. Charles Lipson, the New York Daily News's Michael Goodwin, and the international treasure Mark Steyn in the Orange County Register.
In my Creators Syndicate column this week, I look at these comments from a somewhat different view. In Democratic primaries and caucuses, Obama has been winning extraordinary percentages of support from black voters and young voters. His support from black voters is no surprise, though one must remember that back in November 2007, only four months ago, he was running behind Hillary Clinton among blacks in some polls in some contests. His support from young voters--from the millennial generation, to use the terminology of William Strauss and Neal Howe, rose to extraordinary levels much earlier in the cycle--and was reflected not just in polling results but in volunteer efforts and campaign contributions. I cited Morley Winograd and Michael Hais's very interesting, just-published book Millennial Makeover for the proposition that these young voters find racial conflict and anger very off-putting. Obama's portrait of himself as a leader who transcends race has been very attractive, I think, to millennial voters--responsible as much as anything else for their allegiance. To these same voters, the rantings of Reverend Wright are profoundly unattractive. Will the facts that Obama has been a member of Wright's congregation for more than 20 years and has named Wright as his spiritual mentor diminish Obama in millennials' eyes? I don't know, but it's a critically important question. If the answer is yes, then the chance that Democratic superdelegates will award the nomination to Hillary Clinton seems to rise.
Not only for Obama but for the whole congregation. The people must be real foos and followers, with a thought of their own to listen to this guy. No wonder they live in poverty.
Everything going as planned. The DemocRATS are flying on autopilot and are heading directly into the side of a mountain.
I like Michael Barone calling Mark Steyn an "international treasure".
Oh, you want comments about Obama and the wrong Rev. Wright? Yeah, big problem for the NObama.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Ya think ya have the keywords covered lol?
Once you’ve seen the Rev. Wright’s video clips on TV or on YouTube, it’s hard to get them out of your head. That’s got to hurt Obama with independents, and it may even soften his support even among liberals.
What poverty? This is a pretty affluent congregation.
I was wondering if anyone knows someone who watches Oprah? Has she said anything about the pastor controversy?
THE TRUTH ABOUT BLACK LIBERATION THEOLOGY
...which is what Wright's sermons are all based on, and what the Trinity Church and Obama clearly espouse...yes, it will continue to be a huge problem for him. As well it should.

“Comments?”
Absolutely. Folks need only look for themselves:

No, can you think of some more? LOL
Not a word......as far as I know.
I judge black people by the content of their character they keep. So if Barack Obama is friends with Tony Rezko and Jeremiah Wright, then....
Pop some popcorn, open a cool drink, relax in an easy chair, put the remote in your hand, and enjoy. Its going to be a great ride.
He’s right about Steyn: he is an international treasure.
I previously made the argument that Hillary would have to choose Obama as her VP because she needed him, but that Obama would not choose Hillary because he did not need her.
With the reversal in Obama’s fortunes, though, I am now thinking I may have gotten it exactly backwards.
Obama, or, history in black and white.
It's not exactly a down-trodden area of Chicago. There are housing projects of course, but it's not an area ridden in poverty. I had relatives that lived a little West of there (in Oak Lawn) many years ago.
That’s what I’d like to see Obama nailed on, the BLT that is the foundation of his church, and tenets of which he wrote in his autobiography he saw and liked from the start.
In all good time, I suppose, as I’d still like to see him get the nomination first.
Oprah is too busy “healing and guiding souls” to worry about Wright.
I’ve got to give credit to “Kinky” Friedman for this phrase. He said the Rev Wright was a disaster pastor for BO.
did Barone switch over to CBS from Fox? Probably felt Fox was moving Rove onto his turf. Too bad, he’ll be a big loss at Fox and I’d be surprised if he fits in with the CBS leftist culture.
The only problem is that unless Hildabeast is in the race to the bloody end voters wont hear about it.
The day she's out of the race you will never hear a peep about it again.
We have to keep the Beast in until the convention.
As he should be.
Anti-American racists are problems for everyone.
PING for Obama.
Try, if you can stomach it, listening to Chicago AM1690 and listen to the continual hate typical whites discussion everyday.

All these inner city black preachers are socialist. Whether its Rev Wright, Rev Meeks, Father Fleiger(sp), Jesse Jackson and on and on. No matter what church Obama went to I don't see how it would be any different.
sorry for my rant, it's not an issue to me. Because it isn't a surprise.
Oh, I’ve heard it before. But thanks for the link. Racism is alive in Black America.

Cue The Master of The Obvious photo!
Thanks for the list!
Wright very well might be a product of, instead of a cause of, the problem.
The victimhood mentality has been engrained and perpetuated by leftists in order to maintain their power.
Even if Wright never said another word before November, there are still a HUGE number of leftists out there that believe exactly as he does, and Wright’s exposure just allowed them to come out and tell us.
Do you think the majority of “white Americans” realized how much this community despises, resents, and yes, hates us?
Shocked, shocked I tell you! Seriously.
That was my question to my wife this morning.
No matter what she says there are going to be some pretty mad people out there.
The Reverend is Obama’s spiritual adviser...the man who married him, baptized his kids, and until a few weeks ago, was involved in his campaign. Combine his rants with Mrs. Obama’s recent bad-mouthing of America. As Brit Hume has said—we don’t know anything about this man because the media has protected him. Well, we have a right to know if he wants to be our president. Is he anti-American, too? Does he believe in the ideas of his pastor and church?
Ask Romney. Ask a Wiccan. Ask a Unitarian.
How could anyone hate us white baby boomers? We’re just
so wondeful.Just ask any of us.
Wright is simply reflecting the hatred, resentment, and victimhood mentality of his "constituency group".
I myself didn't realize the hatred until I saw and heard people defending Wright by repeating what he said and insisting that he was right about the things he ranted about.
Myself? I am shtfull. It's time to set a standard of behavior and a common set of rules for everyone. If you don't work, you don't eat. You have a kid out of wedlock, it's your problem. Don't marry the father of your kids and they get into trouble? Yes, we'll build more prisons. Riot? Burn down your own neighborhoods, I don't care, try it elsewhere and be shot.
Upon much consideration:
1. It depends on how long this stuff percolates. People who would vote democrat have selective or short memories, or no higher brain functions whatsoever. So, all could be forgotten, all forgiven, by November. But lets’ break it down by group.
2. Much to my dismay, racial division in America is alive and unwell, due in large part to the Wrights, Jacksons and Sharptons. Therefore,
2a. The majority of African Americans will support BO to the last ditch. He can do no wrong in their eyes simply because he’s black. And they will defend Wright, too. It’s the same thing we saw with the OJ Simpson trial. Black pundits then said “trust us” when a black jury was empaneled. The result speaks for itself. Much to my dismay, black bigotry against whites probably now exceeds white bigotry against blacks. Black racism is justified, white racism is created where it doesn’t exist, and is then vilified.
2b. To the extent that white bigotry still exists, you most likely find it among working class whites, long a core component of the democrat coalition. I’m not sure a democrat can win a presidential election w/o this group. Wright’s statements, the defense of Wright by other black “talking heads” and Barack’s response to all this, means these people will not vote for BHO. But they were already voting for clinton.
3. The elite effete white liberals will blanch initially, but then go back and guzzle the BHO Kool-Aid; they’ve been programmed to bear “white guilt” since the indoctrination began in kindergarten, and it has been encouraged at home. Allowed to digest this for a while, the elite effetes will eventually blame themselves, and as penance will renew their support for BHO.
4. HRC, as an opponent to BHO, is running the most incompetent campaign in modern history. Never before have I seen a candidate start in such an advantageous position and yet squander every advantage she had. Prime example; immediately after the Wright fiasco hands her a prime opportunity, she bungles it by trying to sound like Rambo on a USO tour. Rush and Hannity aren’t talking about Obama today, they are pounding HRC as a liar again.
5. The MSM has taken sides and they have chosen BHO as our next president. They are actively participating as BHO’s propaganda organ, and they will spin nothing but positives about him. Wright will be forgotten in the fog of “hope” and “change.”
So, short term within the context of the democrat nomination, the Wright fiasco will hurt BHO, but it will be a blip and he’ll recover to win the nomination. Someone could find a video of BHO engaging in a sex act with a ten year old boy and a German Shepherd while accepting a bribe at midnight in the basement of the Chinese Embassy, and it won’t matter. HRC will bungle it with another gaffe, the MSM will say he’d known the dog for a long time and explain it away, and pile on HRC.
The long term, where it matters in November, I think the Wright fiasco WILL cost BHO the election. It will crystallize the divisions in the democrat party. Those who support BHO will continue to do so through November. Those who currently support HRC (the white working class) will probably NOT support BHO in November. And because of that I don’t think he can win the states he has to win to be POTUS.
I like the way you think.
***The DemocRATS are flying on autopilot and are heading directly into the side of a mountain.
Just like ron brown
Rev. Wright is not really the issue. Perhaps, he has reasons of his own to be bitter and angry and to hate America. Sorry, of course, that he does, but the issue here is Obama. Rev. Wright is not asking to be president, Obama is. If Obama shares Wright’s hate-America views, a lot of people, rightly, don’t want him to be president.
I’ve been saying it for years that many blacks are racists towards whites, hispanics and asians.
The amoiunt of times I have corrected a black person because they say hey white boy or white trash or get your white arse here etc etc
I ask them everytime would it be alright to say black boy, black trash and everytime they say no that’s racist and they say it with a straight face even the white libs don’t see the point I make.
This has made some aware that blacks can be racist just like any colour
There is a double standered with blacks from affirmative action to blacks saying it’s OK for them to say Nig### to even a certain black man who owns a NY basket ball team saying it’s ok for a black man to say Bit## or ho# but not alright for a white person.
It is a wake up call for everyone and hopefully a wake up call for those who thought about voting for obama
My pleasure - copy and share
the reason why the Wright issue resonates, in my opinion, is that Michelle Obama’s comments seemed to strike the same discordant note. Hannity had been pushing the Wright angle for awhile, but it gathered steam after MO ranted on being proud of her country for the first time.
You just gave me an idea. I’m going to look into buying a medium size helium filled balloon, like the ones the car dealers often use, paint Typical White Person on it...... and raise it up in my yard.
It might also look good on a flag too.
