Obamas Gave Less Than 1% of Their 2000-2004 Income to Charity
ABC ^ | 3/25/08 | Jake Tapper

Posted on 03/25/2008 6:20:41 PM PDT by freespirited

This is why politicians don't like to release their tax returns!

Bloomberg News crunches the numbers on Sen. Barack and Michelle Obama's newly-released tax returns and finds:

"The Obamas' donations to all recipients totaled $2,350 in 2000, $1,470 in 2001, $1,050 in 2002, $3,400 in 2003, and $2,500 in 2004. They also paid federal taxes totaling $311,044 during the same period on their $1.2 million of income."

Obama Charitable Giving Part II
March 25, 2008 5:51 PM

Clearly feeling a bit stung by our earlier note that according to their 2000-2004 tax returns, Barack and Michelle Obama gave less than 1% of their income to charity, Obama campaign spox Tommy Vietor writes to note that even though their 2007 tax return is not yet ready, the Obamas "gave $240,000 to charity in 2007."

This is not even a news story.

Even NPR ran a segment a decade or so ago about how telephone solicitor
for charities know where kind, giving people live.
In "the South".

And that trying to get donations from folks in northern (most of
them Democratic-Mob states) is like pulling teeth.

You are right.

And they believe it is the government’s job to steal from taxpayers to support their favorite “non profits”....those that provide jobs for liberals who support them for office!

Government (taxpayer paid) Grants to nonprofits that contribute to their campaigns are the “charities” of choice for liberal demoniacs.

Wow ... I guess his church doesn’t dwell much on the 10% tithing law (yep, Biblically speaking - this is a commandment); but instead the church focus’s on ‘hate whitey’, ‘blame whitey’ and ‘hate America’ bandwagon.

Wonder if they are an off-shoot of the Westminster Baptist Church??

Well, at least as a true Christian, Obama donated $20,000 to his "church" over a period of 20 years.

Wait a minute, aren't Christians supposed to tithe 10% of their income? The Obamas were making millions, yet they only managed to pay $1,000 a year to their church. Oh, well, Reverend Wright probably gave them a pass.

There’s a book called “Who Really Cares,” by Syracuse University Professor (and a Liberal) Arthur C. Brooks. He shows how the MOST charitable people are religious Republicans, the LEAST — guess what? — Secular Liberals. BTW, charity includes in this study giving blood, hours worked on behalf of others and even who is most likely to return excess change accidentally given them by a cashier. Leftists pocket the change.

They’re great at insisting that OTHERS pay the minimum wage worker more, but they’ll steal every last penny from them if they could.

I seriously doubt that they have suddenly gone from about $2400 a year to over 100 times that amount.

More to the point-—did Obama donate his used boxer shorts and take a deduction for that like Billary did???

My charitable contributions were low because I stopped giving as much to Trinity UCC due to the comments of my Pastor, Jeremiah Wright, which I actually never heard or knew about. My "Pastor Sense" was working overtime however and I just knew I shouldn't tithe, even though I never actually heard anything.

Bush is generous. He keeps piling on the AIDS money to African potentates.

The President has worked hard to make sure that the money for AIDS victims in Africa does NOT go through the larcenous governments, instead going to the medical groups dealing directly with the victims. Even Time Magazine, in its interview with Bob Geldof admitted that.

This was an Algore problem years ago. It’s typical of the left to cajole and compel others while falling miserably short in their own demonstration of a behavior. I believe the Gores had $300 or so of charitable donations in a year that I was well into four figures and most people of their wealth and income were into five or so.

Fits with the ridiculously wasteful energy consumption of the loud and self-riteous Gore clan while W quietly operated one of the most energy efficient abodes on the planet at his Crawford ranch.

The left talks big but largely does little.

Oh, by the way, the jimfrees and many of the folks on this site contribute more in one year than the wealthy and powerful Obamas did in several.

RATS believe that every dollar they earn is a charitable contribution because it enables them to force their sensibilities and agenda on the rest of us if they are successful.

I have not been paying attention, but how did this senator make so much money last year?

I imagine a lot of it is book royalties, since Michelle took leave from her 320K job to campaign. So my best guess is a combination of royalties, investment income and his senator salary. Maybe Michelle worked a few months of the year, I don't know.

Far be it from me to defend Obama & family, but if you were to look at my tax returns, you would have no idea how much I give away. I just generally don't give away to tax-deductible charities but instead try to give directly to those in need.

Of course, this would be much, much harder to do if I had over $100,000 to give away each year rather than the amount I budget (12% last year, I'm aiming for 15% this year).
