I will reply to this one later, but you have my take on David Cook now. Here are the numbers from DialIdol.com:
David Cook 32.65
David Archuleta 22.07
Syesha 15.81

Looks like Syesha will be going home. An all David showdown as we suspected.

Thanks for the comments RockerMom. I had wondered if my take was somewhat tainted. I’m glad to hear that your take was somewhat similar.

I do think Syesha and David would be the best match-up.

I’ve begun to wonder about David A. I love his voice, but where do you market him. More grown up people aren’t going to buy as many albums as the kids will. And when David A. sang a contemporary song (last night), it was awful. This leades me to think that he may have a tough time in the genre that the youth are into these days.

I don’t know, I guess I could say the same thing about Syesha too. Still, she seems more marketable to me. I can see her peforming in concerts, with a big fan base. I can see her selling albums to the same people who like the other female stars in the genre she’s been singing from.

Perhaps I’m a little biased, but I do find myself thinking Syesha would be the best number two. I do love David A.’s voice a lot. That first song last night was beautiful.

Well, it’s down to the waiting now...

Well, there you go. That’s okay. Syesha has a big future ahead of her. It isn’t all that important if she was 2nd or 3rd. Her talent is known and that’s what will see her through the coming years.

Thanks for the info.

Yes, I think Syesha will have a big future ahead of her. At least I hope so. To be in the top 3 is very impressive. She has come a long way since the day of her Foxy Cleopatra hairdo!

I thought I would broaden my possible understanding of why Syesha picked the songs she did following in more of a theatrical mode, not the expected Pop or Idol mode. Simon was right on about all the performances, by the way; even the song he picked for Cook. But back to Syesha (whom Simon did praise ): The girl is definitely inspired, not chagrined as other contestants have been, over not being #1. Thus, Syesha suddenly seems very well aware of her starring destiny. Why not take this opportunity with intelligent focus to audition in front of millions of viewers which include agents for all the arts, the money powers that be in the BIZ, in what would serve her best interests in upcoming theatrical endeavors.

Syesha has to be well aware Cook or Archuleta are the favorites to win -- a no brainer week after week. Syesha comes on board, as an actress as well. Syesha might just see More than being a Pop/Rock American Idol.

I checked into Playbill and JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR GOSPEL, as an example, in the beginning stages.

I think Syesha is a very intelligent performer and is making the most of her Idol appearances. I would not be surprised to see her in an upcoming play as below. She and other Idol contestants have already been introduced to the likes of those like Andrew Weber.

(Example, even though male performers would lead the cast:)

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR GOSPEL
Original music: Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Weber. Re-conceived and new musical arrangements by Louis St. Louis.
This is a new gospel version of Jesus Christ Superstar. All characters are African American.
*Breakdown pending Equity approval.
1st rehearsal: December 8m 2008. Runs: January 21 – February 22, 2009

Jesus of Nazareth
Judas Iscariot
Mary Magdalene
Pontius Pilate
King Herod
Caiaphas
Annas

Now,Archuleta, to me, is Barry Manilow as a teenager. David is super talented in the technical aspect, tone quality, the judges always applaud for his skill factor which comes from years of training; and would like to see him make good, but he is more Disney material even though 17; which could also present an age problem where one wonders where he would fit in. Too old in another year (18), as he can't be dating his young focus fan group; but not hip, sexy or independent enough for the college crowd mixed genre and up in appreciation.

David Cook will be, I predict if common sense prevails, the Next American Idol. He's more marketable. Which takes nothing away from the talents of Arch or Syesha.

Tina Turner, the Musical, Simply The Best, is also currently aiming for a London debut with a follow up stint on Broadway.

Just my crystal ball prediction past The Days of American Idol.

I don't watch AI but did catch a bit last night. Syesha's cover of Peggy Lee's classic song "Fever" certainly showcased her voice.

I have a very special version of Peggy Lee's "Fever" not commercially available. It is "dry" without the added echo but with the studio chatter before the song was recorded. Absolutely amazing and love it.

That said, Syesha's cover was very entertaining.

Simon Cowell has told “American Idol” season seven finalist Syesha Mercado that she’s no Whitney Houston, but to jazz musician Boney James, the 21-year-old is the next best thing to Faith Evans.

Yesterday Concord Records released “Gonna Get It,” recorded by James and a then-unknown Mercado in August 2006. The song is available for purchase exclusively on iTunes, but can be heard for free on a number of Web sites.

More:

“She was wonderful. I think she was only 19 at the time,” Lowell-born saxophonist James said of Mercado.

Evans eventually did cut the track, which appears on James’ 2006 album “Shine,” and Mercado’s version was shelved. But that was before she became the last female standing on “Idol.”

“I found out she was in the finals (and thought), ‘Wouldn’t it be a great opportunity to hear this song?’,” James said.

James, who co-wrote the song with singer Rahsaan Patterson, said he would have kept Mercado’s cut on “Shine” had Evans’ label held out.

“Now I have two incredible versions of the song,” he said.

Fox was taken by surprise by yesterday’s release of “Gonna Get It” and had no comment.

Only on ITune (Mercado’s version) and on Boney's myspace: http://www.myspace.com/boneyjamesmusic

Wow, your very special version must have cost you a pretty penny. Sounds like it was very well worth it. Thank you for sharing your opinion on Syesha’s performance of “Fever”.

Actually, Peggy's "Fever" was a gift from a friend in the biz. Some other gifts include unreleased studio demos from beatles and others...but that's another story.

Missed AI - who was voted off the island tonight?

Syesha was voted off the island. She took it very well. I think she knew. Still, I bet she will have a great career.

WAY TO GO DAVID COOK! As we thought, DAVID vs. DAVID showdown next week.

Syesha took it very well but I think she knew the outcome. She is a class act and really talented. Very emotional show with their hometown celebrations. They were all overwhelmed and who wouldn’t be with all those fans and that attention! Good for them. A very touching show tonight.

Just one thing ruined it tonight and I think you both know what I mean. I am sure everyone was thinking the same thing!
