China upset over errant U.S. missile part shipment [Mega barfer]

China on Wednesday expressed its "grave concern and strong displeasure" over what the United States said was an accidental shipment of ballistic missile components to Taiwan.

China has asked the United States "to thoroughly investigate this incident, and report their findings to the Chinese side in a timely, truthful and detailed manner," Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said in a statement on the ministry's Web site.

"We once again remind the United States to abide by the Sino-U.S. joint communique of August 17, and cease arm sales to Taiwan and contact with the Taiwanese military, in order to avoid damaging the peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits and the healthy development of Sino-U.S. relations," the statement said.

The reaction comes a day after U.S. Secretary of the Air Force Michael Wynne announced the accidental shipment, which happened in the fall of 2006. The mistake was not discovered until last week, he said.

Four nose cone fuses for intercontinental ballistic missiles were shipped to Taiwan instead of the the helicopter batteries it had ordered, Wynne said.

He said the fuses, intended for a Minuteman strategic nuclear missile, were returned to the United States after the mistake was discovered.

The ChiComs are making a mountain of a non-existent molehill. The fuses were returned after the mistake was discovered.

Hey China - when are you going to allow unfettered media access into Tibet and the rest of the country? When are you going to stop your military support to assorted tinpot dictators incl. the beasts in North Korea, Sudan, and elsewhere?

Message sent to China. If you attack Taiwan after the Olympics, there is a heck of a fight coming.

What about the guidance system in the rocket that crashed and burned that Clinton gave them that disappeared? It wasn’t in the wreckage when the inspectors went to recover it.

The only disturbing thing about this story to me is this... How did the Chicoms know the parts were sent in the first place?

There is an information leak somewhere.

We should Give Taiwan some nukes and some stealthy sub launced cruise missiles, then China would leave them alone and we would never have to worry about defending Taiwan from China’s lustful empire quest.

Upset? Hell I'M upset that these guys are trying to POISON US!!

(And before someone asks, I will post this until the idiots in government alter this insane and now dangerous UNILATERAL trade policy with China and the fools in the multinationals STOP exporting the production of EVERYTHING to China and bring those jobs home.

As you think about that, recall that in ancient times, the Romans and others would catapult disease-riddled corpses over the walls of cities they besieged to sicken and kill the enemy. The Chinese know that history even if we obviously have forgotten it. Get my drift there?

On a recent visit to China, a friend spotted this ad in a Beijing newspaper. He sent me the photo with a translation of the ad copy.

BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR AND JOIN CHINA’S NEW MONIED ELITE!

Yes, you can now join the millions of happy and prosperous Chinese citizens taking advantage of the growing numbers of American and Western multinational corporations “outsourcing” their production to the hard-working and industrious people of China. This outsourcing has now spread to their food supplies and ingestible items. Since these firms pay us for gross weight – and this new weight will be pretty gross – and the stupid American government only spot-checks imported items in these categories (they just got lucky on the anti-freeze thing), it has opened an entirely new opportunity which our beloved Chairman is offering to any Chinese citizen willing to do a little of what the foolish Americans call “grunt work.”

Installing one of these state-of-the-art food additive production facilities behind YOUR hovel is as simple as clipping the coupon below and sending it to the address shown. Your production plant will be shipped to you in 4 to 6 weeks. Supplies are limited so don’t fart around. ACT NOW!!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

These silly Americans have an expression we have “borrowed” and modified to describe this new and exciting venture: “Don’t give me any s**t.”

Our motto will be “We won’t GIVE you any s**t. But we’ll SELL it to you fools at a really great price.”

AND LOOK FOR A NEW DROP-DEAD MONEY-MAKER COMING SOON. SOYLENT YELLOW PROMISES TO BE BIG!!

AND YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED TO KNOW THAT THE “CHERY” PERSONAL VEHICLE TO BE IMPORTED BY CHRYSLER IS SIMPLY A HORIZONTALLY MODIFIED VARIATION OF THE VERTICAL UNIT SHOWN ABOVE. WE SIMPLY SLAP AN ENGINE AND SOME WHEELS ON THAT PUPPY AND OFF SHE GOES! AMERICA’S VAST ILLEGAL POPULATION OUGHT TO SNAP THEM UP LIKE TACOS.

How did the Chicoms know the parts were sent in the first place?

Depends on when they first knew. The shipment occurred in 2006. Did the PRC find out prior to the DOD announcement yesterday?

It seems to me they would have to have known before the announcement. Why would DOD make the announcement otherwise? The leak had to have forced it in my opinion.

Neither DOD nor Taiwan had reason to make this known unless they knew the ChiComs had gotten wind of it from source or another. They found out, raised a diplomatic stink, and then the story. That’s how I see it playing out.

A spy somewhere; someone in our government looking to embarrass the military; or someone in the Taiwanese govt. sympathetic to the ChiComs.
