DOVER, Del. - A Delaware state human relations commission is investigating allegations that a fifth-grade teacher told her class she wouldnt vote for Barack Obama because he is "scary" and a Muslim.
The mother of a 10-year-old student complained, saying her daughters teacher made the comments during a mock primary on Super Tuesday last month at a southeastern Delaware elementary school. The student is a Muslim.
The Democratic presidential candidate is a Christian, but hes had to fight against false Internet rumors suggesting hes really a Muslim intent on destroying the United States.
The Indian River School District says it has resolved the issue after meeting with the mother and the teacher who allegedly made the comments.

He’s plenty scary without being a Muslim.
Obviously, this child lacks the proper indoctrination and must be “corrected.” 1984, anyone?
Uh oh. This teacher broke Public School Commandment #1: “Thou shalt be sensitive to everyone’s religion no matter how dangerous or silly it is—unless they’re Christian. Then they’re fair game.”
I see nothing wrong with that.
It’s TRUE!
Are we now punishing teachers that speak the truth?
If she said she was voting for the Obomination, then everything would be okay. Or called McCain scary and “making the rich richer and the poor poorer” that would be okay.
THE TRUTH ABOUT BLACK LIBERATION THEOLOGY AND THE TRINITY CHURCH
Maybe next they’ll take on the lies that are being spread about global warm...
Oh, never mind.
It would appear the child had the proper indoctrination, but the teacher didn’t.
susie
I’m sure if the teacher says she misspoke and meant to say George Bush is scary that would end the investigation.
That teacher’s comment is mild compared to the anti-American, Bush-bashing statements my daughters have had to tolerate from their teachers, from the lower grades through high school.
Well, it looks like a nice open door for Republicans in that district to demand some 'inclusiveness' in the DE HRC investigation, since they're in the district anyway and it would conserve expense.
Teachers shouldn’t be talking like this about ANY candidate.
Could this be the rantings of a typical white person and it just came out wrong?
When’s the last time you heard a school board investigating a teacher for expressing negative feelings about a conservative?
The Delaware Human Relations Commission are all of Nanny Minner’s friends who have no decent job but need reward for their support.
I once had one of that group get on my back over a, ahem, gay fellow who worked for a company that I consulted for. It was so unbelievable as to be laughable that we have people out doing this crap.
This gay fellow got fired, well “laid off” would be more appropriate, because the owner of the campground was closing down one of three he owned. The one being closed down was managed by a lady who had been with that company’s employ over thirty years. The guy who got fired had been with the company exactly one year.
So we fired him and moved the lady from the closing campground to the one managed by the gay fellow. The gay fellow did an awful job, yes he did, but the company held on to him until they had to let him go to make space for an employee with twenty plus years service over him.
In other words, exactly like every damn Delaware union hires and fires...by SENIORITY. Trust me, good employees are rarer than hen’s teeth here in the swamps of Delaware and an employer could care less if a man or woman is gayer than a grass blade so long as a good job is accomplished.
But this Delaware human relations guy spent MONTHS on this thing. MONTHS. He interviewed...over and over and over.
The guy had nothing better to do is why. These are bureaucrats given these do-nothing talentless jobs just so they can feel noble.
What a waste of time.
Hey, I tought night school of the Indian River school district. It was an adult class but I taught writing. And believe me I spouted conservative stuff every class till I converted every damn last one of them.
Wonder when I’ll get reported.
‘he is “scary”’ - well, he’s certainly not officially a muslim, not publicly. But as to the scary part ....... (links updated late last night - added to the end of the list) - the bamboozling is pretty good, imho - no I didn’t make any of these

Come on — this teacher has no business talking about political candidates with terms like ‘scary’, especially to 5th graders.
Leave contemporary politics out of the classroom. Teach what socialism, communism, libertarianism, capitalism, etc... are, but leave the mud slinging out of it.
It’s outrageous whenever they do it to President Bush or Reagan, and it’s just as outrageous when they do it to a Democrat.
Excellent point
Why are 5th graders holding mock primaries?
Wasn’t a similar Human Relations Commision involved in that Philly cheesesteak “speak english” nonsence?
Who the hell are these people? I don’t think we have those down south. I could be wrong though.
Why don’t people just tell them to go screw?
I agree. The classroom should not be a pulpit for teachers, left or right.
Yep!
This teacher deserves an award for breaking the mold...
There are more of us than most people think...
1. What happened to freedom of speech?
2. How does this sort of thing make it all the way to the news media?
I agree. 10/11 year olds are not researching the candidates for ideologies and policies and accomplishments. At this level, they are voting for the candidate’s popularity, and they are voting what they hear at home.
I teach 8th grade social studies and come election time, the students must research their chosen candidate and provide evidence on why they would support their candidate. Some of them have the “awakening” of why they supported a particular candidate. Some can no longer find evidence to support their candidate. They are told to investigate their candidates...don’t follow blindly because of the charm. They need to bring back their research. I don’t grade them on who I like or dislike, I grade them on the evidence they provide and how they present the evidence and the sources they used.
To this day, my students do not know which way I vote. It’s none of their business. I think teachers that lean “left” have a harder time hiding their politics.
He calls himself a Christian. That doesn't make him a Christian, and it's pretty clear from that Church's teachings that is isn't a Christian church despite its claims.
As I have posted on a quite a few threads...ANY criticism of Obama = racism; ANY ethics probes of his 'associates' = racism; ANY override of a veto of a (shudder) President Obama = racism. Just remember folks, with one utterance his legal middle name became forbidden to be mentioned or uttered on the airwaves. FORBIDDEN!
I live in this school district. Every child that was interviewed said the teacher did not say this. She was asked who she would vote for and told the class that she was a Republican and could not vote in a Democratic primary.
The muslim girl was lying? Surely you jest?
Same reason we, in First Grade, "discussed" the merits of Stevenson v Eisenhower during the run up to the 1952 elections?
Same reason we later held mock elections in 1960 & 1956?
Same reason we had mock UN debates in high school?
This is nothing new, by any means, and came under the heading of "citizenship" and "social studies".
That led up to our Eighth Grade in depth study, and state mandated tests, of the US Constitution; then to our required high school 'Civics" class, on top of our required two years of US History; plus the year of Western Civilization.
They must have told all their little future headchoppers to look for excuses to sue.
“The Democratic presidential candidate is a Christian, but hes had to fight against false Internet rumors suggesting hes really a Muslim intent on destroying the United States. “
Correction, he’s a fifth columnist intent on destroying the United States.
It was all the other hateful, lying, racist, Islamophobic students ganging up on the poor, honest, misunderstood, PEACEFUL Muslim girl. They probably even deleted her cell phone recording of it, to destroy her only evidence.
Next, they'll be burning crosses, lit with flaming pages of the Koran, in her front yard.
Posting cartoons of Prophet Mo'Ham-Mad (P*** be upon him!) on her MySpace page.
Might even sneak bacon into her cheeseburgers, or sausage onto her pizzas!
I doubt we have heard the last of her & her mother, or C.A.I.R. about this.
Perhaps the teacher ‘misspoke’.
Just sayin’.
Too bad that “admitting” to being a Republican turns into a witch hunt of media proportions. If what you are saying is true, then the teacher didn’t even say who she was voting for, just that she couldn’t vote in the primary. A mini-civics lesson gone wrong. In this age of having to protect your own fanny, I’m amazed the teacher revealed her political stance. Very dangerous which is sad.
It is even more sad that the other kids that were interviewed are stating it did not happen, but because of this one girl’s religion, she is more credible? Disgraceful!
Having a “mock primary” in the 5th grade was a dumb move. It’s asking for trouble. As for BO, yeah he’s a Christian - of a sort.
