SORRENTO - A daylong party ended violently Sunday night when an angry mob of revelers kicked and punched a Lake County deputy sheriff and smashed a beer bottle on his head, authorities said.
"The only thing I was worried about was someone getting my weapon," Deputy Cliff McMennamy said hours after he was released from Florida Hospital Waterman with a bruised jaw and lacerations on his head and face.
"I can take the whuppin', I can handle that," McMennamy said. "I didn't want someone to get my weapon. . . . That's why I got so beat up, because I had my hand on my weapon the entire time."
Miguel Gomez, 35, of Sorrento was booked into the Lake County Jail on several charges was being held on $120,000 bail.
Four other people in the area were detained by sheriff's investigators...and transferred to the U.S. Border Patrol as possible illegal immigrants. They were Angel Francisco Nieto-Soto, 30, of DeLand; Juan G. Gomez-Zamora, 22, of Sorrento; and Rigoberto Acosta Cardusa, 42, and Fernando Cortez-Rosas, 37, both of unknown addresses. Officials were unable to determine whether the four were involved in Sunday's melee.
As McMennamy pulled into the home's driveway, Gomez screamed profanities at the deputy and threw a beer bottle at his car.
McMennamy called for help on his radio and chased him. The deputy fired his Taser, knocking him to the ground.
As the deputy kneeled to put handcuffs on Gomez, the two scuffled and McMennamy struck him again with his Taser. A crowd of 10 to 12 other men then surrounded McMennamy and began hitting the deputy, according to reports.
"The whole group jumped on me. I remember someone with a cowboy boot kicked me under the right ear and jaw," he said.

Sounds like he should have had his weapon in his hand from the getgo with the business end pointed at these perps.
He's lucky they did not severely injure, or kill him.
I pray he recovers completely and that the apprehended perps go away for a long time.

I’m glad this deputy is well. So he can take a whuppin? I’d still like to know why he draw his weapon since he had his hand on it.
It’s a shame to see how much our government has sold us out. When will things get turned around?
Hey, they're just hard working folks doing the jobs that American's won't do.
He’s only 27, but he sounds like an old school sheriff, brave, hands on, and willing to accept some personal risk.
He probably judged his chances of surviving a whoopin' to be better than his chances in front of a prosecutor.

He had every right draw his firearm and to use, or at least threaten deadly force, as soon as he was surrounded. Maybe he was concerned that i he drew down he would be over whelmed and they would take the gun from him alot easier if it was in his hand vs in his holster. Still, they were using deadly force against him, he had no idea when or if they would stop their attack on him, so he could have justified popping a few rounds into a few of those delightful souls. As it is looks like he was not permanently injured so in that sense it’s all ok, though those illegals never should have been here to attack anyone.
Looking at who's running for president, it certainly won't be in the next 5 years.
He may have felt that since he was outnumbered, they wouldn’t get it if it was holstered, but once out?

The city of Tijuana had its entire 3,000 man police force disarmed and replaced with Mexican Federal Troops.
What we have below are two images. One is of an enemy we fought tooth and claw for seventy years nearly bankrupting our country. The other we today invite across our border with welfare, free medical care, and more. The centers of many American cities are now controlled by MS-13 and others of the most violent gangs in America’s entire history. These gangs want to kill police and federal agents to rise in reputation among their own kind. Our prisons are now filled with a violent criminal class never seen before anywhere on earth.
The”honest Ones” here have no respect and contempt for us and our culture. The “bad ones” are engaged in open warfare.

What nobody seems to understand is that if we gave them citizenship, then we could treat them like the rest of us, instead of just releasing them to unsupervised self-deportation. ;-)

His favorite phrase seems to be "these are God's children"...which seems to absolve one of responsibility...
Speaking from experience, when confronted with a closing mob, retreat enough so one is not encircled while drawing your weapon and quickly fanning it from one side of the mob to the other. Keep retreating while holding the mob at bay. No one will approach you, trust me, I’ve done this. The deputy should have drawn his weapon instead of worrying about them “getting it.” They will never get it, the type of people involved in this melee aren’t the caliber of the citizenship-seeking legal immigrant latinos that are a worthy part of California and other states.
