Green Zone Hit for Fourth Day This Week
BAGHDAD (AP) Shiite militants are hammering the U.S.-protected Green Zone with rockets and mortars for the fourth day this week.
Thick, black smoke is billowing from inside the heavily fortified home to the U.S. Embassy and Iraqi government.
Embassy spokeswoman Mirembe Nantongo says no one has been injured in Thursday's attacks.
American military officials say the attacks are coming from breakaway factions of anti-American cleric Muqtada al-Sadr's Mahdi Army.
The groups are believed to be funded and trained by Iran. However, Iran has denied the allegations.
How are things with you at the moment?
Rejoicing was heard in newsrooms and democratic party campaign offices all across AmeriKKKa.
this is to be expected. The terrorists know they’re losing and are lashing out in desperation.
Gee, how did Iraq get back in the news?
Pray that the Iraqi’s can get the fat boy. Send him back to Iran in pieces.
Oh, noisy and bumpy. They shelled us during lunchtime and they just sent a few over our heads to the Green Zone again a few minutes ago.
It's just crazy here.
Are they doing the “drop 3 and split routine” or different shoot-n-scoot tactics?
BTW,
I was poking around at Victory base from 13-17 January. Was pretty quiet. only 1 mortar attack on the camp - and that wasn’t even close. Went to Fallujia the next day and then up to Balad for a few.
Way too many folks poking around with nothing to do.
Dumb move on their part, as they'll find out in the coming days. JAM dropping the cease fire will just allow us to go bag the targets we've been restrained from hitting. The bad elements who pretended to be on the fence. They had their chance at reconciling. They'll wish they took it. They're not the only ones who've been getting ready during the cease fire.
They're launching about eight to ten at a time. From the backs of trucks. From various locations in the general vicinity of Sadr City.
We wouldn't be having this problem if he was taken care of long ago when we had him and his goons cornered. This is a blunder that keeps on surfacing to remind us what a blunder that was.
Yes, we're hearing a lot of that, too, especially at night.
Welcome back...when did you return?
Aw, I've gotten out of this country during worse times than this. I'll get out. :-D
How are things over your way? Quiet?
Stay safe, Allegra!
Like church mice recently. Been a quiet week. I think they’re saving up. LOL
I've been here for over four years.
I tell them what to do.
Last summer, actually. I’ve been fob hopping during the RIP/TOAs, lurking FR when I had time. Done Basrah to Mosul and pretty much everywhere MND-B and N in between. Work’s been good and plentiful. On that note, JAM is in for a few surprises. It’s too bad they couldn’t resist the urge to be stupid, but they’ll wish they had. Sadr’s about to get a bucket of ice water in his face.
Has it quieted down any or still noisy?
I was under the impression things were really getting better in Iraq...is that not so?
Can you hold the bucket of ice water and give Mookie a couple of 5.56mm in the face at high speed, instead? :)
You guys stay safe over there and keep your heads down. And thanks.

Heh. Has Task Force 77 moved down there from Balad yet? These last weeks have provided much intel for future consideration in Sadr City.
As Allegra mentioned, those 7-8 round barrages don’t go unnoticed. Those trucks they’re shooting from still have a start point and an end point. A Predator can keep an eye on them for hours on end.

What was done in Baquoba last spring is being done in Sadr City right now.
Oh, they're still at it.
They'll be dealt with.
Gosh, I’m so worried for you!
PLEASE, stay safe!
I see you can still cause a ruckus over there - it’s all your fault, of course! (/s)
Keep your pretty head down, sis!
Prayers up for you Allegra. *HUG*
Thank you for the heads up.
Prayers going up for your continued safety. This has to be
the scariest thing that has happened to you....so far!
Get home safely so I can give you a (((hug))) for real on May 2nd (or 3rd!!!)
God be with you and all our personel over there in that area....and around the world!
Someone needs to take that mad little cleric out! Period!
I know....easy for me to say sitting here in my kitchen.
We have been too “nice” to him and his thugs, though. The
Iraqis should take the initiative here. He has been a thorn
in our side for way too long!
Thank you so much. It is more appreciated than you know.
So far, today has been pretty quiet. We're sort of holding our breath. It's near lunchtime and they tend to try to hit the chow hall at mealtimes.
We shall see....
It is so good to hear from you Allegra - prayers up.
Stay low and keep moving.
Whiskey for the men...Beer for the horses!!!
I still picture you doing the whole neener neener neener, you missed me routine! ;-)
They've been hitting a little too close for us to do that. They didn't hit us today, but they did a few times yeserday and the day before. VERY close. I don't want to tempt fate so close to going home. :)
And the Green Zone...well, I'll be there next week. And they're getting pounded over there. We can hear it....all day long.
I've just got to survive a couple more weeks and then I'll be out. But I want this to stop....there are too many here who are near and dear to my heart that I'll worry about.
I hear you...The day you leave may be a relief, but its going to be the toughest day of all...
BTW, just this morning you folks made the news again...
Why? I'm coming back. :)
BTW, just this morning you folks made the news again...
The Green Zone hits? Heard 'em.
Didn’t we see a report about a land based Aegis gun that was supposed to intercept mortar, etc. fired into the Green Zone?
Didn’t we see a report about a land based Aegis gun that was supposed to intercept mortar, etc. fired into the Green Zone?
Yep...I just know you made some great friends over there...
