WASHINGTON - One of the Marines' most-accomplished snipers took dead aim yesterday at Hillary Rodham Clinton's claims of facing fire in Bosnia, saying she has dissed the real heroes.
"She doesn't care about our service members - that's the feeling that gives me," said retired Staff Sgt. Jack Coughlin, a 20-year Marine sniper who detailed his real-life drama in the powerful 2006 book, "Shooter: The Autobiography of the Top-Ranked Marine Sniper."
"This is not a verbal snafu. She is using us," he told The Post.
Coughlin, who once recorded 13 enemy "kills" in a single day during the Iraq war, said Clinton committed "the ultimate sin" by trumping up a frightening scenario for political gain.
"She puts it out there so she can say she's been tested under fire - especially in the smug way she was talking about it," Coughlin said, referring to Clinton's account of running across a military tarmac in Tuzla, Bosnia, while under sniper attack.
Clinton has said this week that she misspoke.
"So I made a mistake," she told reporters Tuesday in Pennsylvania, where she was campaigning before the state's April 22 primary.
But Coughlin's not buying it.

“She doesn’t care about our service members ...or the secret service, police...either.
Hillary doesn’t give a rip about the members of the armed services. Period. Same for her husband. Same for Obama.
It’s merely lip service.
I understand that the WH SS detail didn’t have much good to report about the Clintons. Same goes for the permanent WH staff, ushers, kitchen staff, etc.
Just have to say that “Shooter” is a great book.
Strongly recommend to fans of “I was there” war story books.
Its clear from the poster that her primary weapon is a shovel. She’s been “shoveling it” for a long time!
Exactly. Both she and her horrid husband have always been outrageous liars. This is nothing new. What is new is that the media seem to have abandoned them in favor of the new guy.
Also, she’s clearly digging herself in deeper!
I wonder why the word 'kills' is in double quotes. Is the author of the article trying to say that these 13 kills were unverified? I highly doubt they were.
When the Marines top sniper has you in the crosshairs, the next thing you'll be seeing is your Maker. Not a medic.
"It seems like she's just going to be thinking about 'What makes me look better?' not 'What's better for the country?' "
Snipers do NOT lay down repeated fire like Clinton describes.
Fortunately for her, there really was no sniper involved at her arrival ceremony, or else she would not be around to tell the tale.
A real sniper would have taken her out without her even knowing one was present. She never would have even heard the shot.
This woman is simply evil and corrupt. She has no honor or dignity.
“Silent Souls leave 308 holes” .......
Oh I know she doesn’t care about our Military, vets and such, and she can kiss my grits on that one too...
Vietvet, thank you for your service and welcome home hun!
I think it is meant to indicate lingo, rather than disbelief, as the word in quotes is usually used as a verb rather than a noun.
"Along those lines, another source reports that two Secret Service agents heard Hillary's daughter Clelsea refer to them as 'personal, trained pigs' to some of her friends. When the friends had gone, the senior agent on the detail tried to scold Chelsea for such disrespect. He told her that he was willing to put his life on the line to save hers, and he believed that her father, the president, would be shocked if he heard what she had just said to her friends. Chelsea's response?
"'I don't think so. That's what my parents call you.'"

He was in charge of the security during that visit.
Lanny Davis was on the same segment and all but called Col. Hunt a liar.
Lanny should be glad that there were in different studios at the time of that comment.
This has nothing whatsoever to do with the thread, but: I owe Coughlin a huge debt of gratitude. My son was absolutely resistant to reading for pleasure until I bought him Coughlin’s book. He read the book voraciously and it broke the ice; he’s now a fine and enthusiastic reader, can’t be trusted to keep the lights off after I put him to bed at night. It’s great. Nothing I like better than to see my kid so eager to read that he won’t go to sleep. Thank you, Sergeant, and thank you for sending all those bad guys to hell for us.
The author is talking about how the Military terms a sniper mission. Much like the air force terms “Sorties”. “One shot, one kill.” Is the basic sniper code.
The “kills” were absolutely verified. Every Sniper has a spotter who tabs the results of the shot. They work together. The spotter watches the bullet fly to the target through his scope and verifies the trajectory.
hillary clinton - “Phony Soldier”
Bring it on Rush!
How many million for THAT letter?
This, I know.
It just seemed to me that the author used the double quotes in an unnecessary manner.
It evoked an image to me of someone speaking the term while raising both hands and doing the classic 'double-quote' gesture with the fingers.
Perhaps I should try some decaf in the morning before I start reading the latest on FR.
It’s amazing isn’t it? osamma-obamma’s campaign is having a melt-down and all Shrillary has to do is keep her yap closed for a couple of days and what does she do? She completely fabricates a yarn about being under fire in a circumstance where she is so easily (and so completely) contradicted.
And when caught, instead of leaning on the well-worn “I misspoke” excuse, she actually tries to spin it!
She should take a cue from what’s his name - you know - the loser who is the pubbies “champion” and go underground. Now that’s the way to win an election!
> “She puts it out there so she can say she’s been tested under fire - especially in the smug way she was talking about it,” Coughlin said, referring to Clinton’s account of running across a military tarmac in Tuzla, Bosnia, while under sniper attack....

> “She tried to punch her ticket in the ‘warrior club,’ like, ‘I’ve been there, done that, and I’ve got the T-shirt,’ “ Coughlin said. “If you do it for political gain - that’s where you cross the line.”
Too right — he makes an excellent point. “Stolen Valor”. It must drive real Veterans nuts to have people arrogating to themselves what rightly belongs only to those who have really served.
How is she any different to the wannabe poseur down at the bar who tries to convince you that he was a Top Secret SEAL and that all his military records were destroyed and that he was so elite he didn’t even need to go to BUD/s and how he got the Medal of Honor (secretly) twice, and...
I wonder if there is a place for her on VeriSEAL’s Wall of Shame? I must check see if they are still around.
As a life-long civilian I’d be interested in knowing: what do real Vets think about this? — quite aside from what you thought about HillBilly as a person or as a candidate: what do you think about her doing this? How would you feel about having her being able to validate herself by becoming Commander-in-Chief?
Should Hillary get the nomination, Senator McCain should take the opportunity to explain to her what it was like to be on an airplane in the service of America and to really come under fire.
I served in Vietnam. Having any Democrat in office will not mean certain death to our troops, it will only mean they become underfunded and misused as waiters for White House luncheons. They will also be “Redeployed” to places they cannot be placed in harms way. One thing about the Democrats, they hate war and soldiers. But mostly, they do not want their blood on their hands either.
Today’s volunteer fighting force will simply quit and go home to their families for the time being.
Of course, the terrorists will regroup to some extent, but they will never become a viable cohesive force that could defeat us on the battlefield.
We survived Carter and Clinton and we will survive another Democrat in office. The blame for the coming economic disaster will fall squarely on the backs of the Democrats. If McCain get it, then the blame will be on the GOP, and you know how bad that can be.
McCain will ruin our economy like any Democrat and will cripple industry with his support for full implementation of the Kyoto Accord. Add to Amnesty to that and the damage will far outweigh any Military support he claims to have.
McCain is bad for this country, in many ways.
Thank you very much..
He's got a second book out, too. "Kill Zone." Fiction, not non-fiction like the first but still good.
McCain is no hero. He had a tendency to go against orders which is partly why he was shot down. He went against direct instructions from his Wing Commander and failed to deviate his flight path; Allowing a SAM battery to lock on to his A-4 while on a bombing run, targeting a power plant in Hanoi.
There is also controversial information that McCain gave the enemy critical information about our troops which cost us many lives. This is one of the reasons McCain becomes so vicious when ever the subject is brought up.
There were many other POW’s who spent their time in captivity, quite honorably, but there is very little being said about them. All the honor and attention is being focused on McCain, who I believe does not deserve the attention to the degree he is getting it.
Thankyou for your Service, mate.
> McCain will ruin our economy like any Democrat and will cripple industry with his support for full implementation of the Kyoto Accord.
*That* is a scary treaty. New Zealand (where I live) signed up early because our gummint greedily thought that we would make money out of it... WRONG! Someone miscalculated, and despite having a huge amount of our country covered in forest, we are going to lose our shirts, because of... wait for it... cattle farts!
Yup, methane gas produced by our dairy and wool industries. Our trees don’t count as carbon sinks for some dumb reason.
If McCain is for Kyoto that spells trouble. Where does HillBilly and OBL sit on that issue? That would be worth finding out for sure — I know we constantly get AlGore-inventor-of-the-Internet quoted at us about Global Warming and Kyoto.
I don't know, but I'd be willing to be that standard security procedures for Tuzla included pushing a security perimeter so far out that a sniper wouldn't get a "within-range" shot with any known sniper weapon. That's one reason for using an airport to hold welcoming ceremonies. Usually you have a long flat perimeter with no tall buildings or high terrain nearby. That said, this was the Balkans, so the terrain factor is always significant.
Sam:
I think that putting a professional term-of-art in quotes is just a journalistic tic to make said term stand-out on the page. I don’t think that there’s any ulterior motive — in this case.

If she didn’t have a MOS as an infantryman,
she would be disqualified for a CIB award. Her MOS is probably a MBS. (Master Bull Sh!tter)
Hillary isn’t entitled to the CIB...
I’ve seen no officer verification that she EVER had Clinton In Bed....
