SAN FRANCISCO -- It didnt matter if it said "PacBell," "SBC," or "AT&T" on the outside; to many San Francisco Giants fans, the ballpark on the citys waterfront was always known as "The House That Barry Built."
But now, less than a year removed from Barry Bonds setting of the all-time, home-run record, the average fan will have a hard to finding evidence that the slugger ever played there. His name, his image, as well as any mention of his feat, have been scrubbed from AT&T Park.
Wednesday was Media Day at the ballpark; a chance for reporters and photographers to get a look at what changes have been made to the stadium since last season. The NBC11 photographer who attended the event said biggest change was whats no longer there.
During the run-up to the home-run record last season, there were multiple banners hanging around the ballpark celebrating the chase. There was also a mural featuring Bonds running the length of the left field wall. All that is gone. There is not a single visible reference, not even a small plaque, commemorating the accomplishment.
Bonds, who played left field for the Giants for 15 years, broke Henry Aarons home run record when he hit number 756 on August 7, 2007. Bonds was not re-signed by the club after the 2007 season. Bonds agent, Jeff Boras, has been quoted as saying Bonds has not retired and would still like to play, but no team has signed him for the 2008 season.
For all his success on the field and in the batters box, though, Bonds tenure with the Giants was highly controversial. For years, Bonds has been dogged by allegations of steroid use, and was recently indicted on charges he lied to a federal grand jury about the matter......."
Wish the Giants hadn’t caved in and signed him for the ‘07 season, because then he never would have broken the record. Gee, I wonder why there are no takers for Bonds now that he’s a free agent.
Good.
Couldn’t happen to a more deserving fella.
Sounds like they unceremoniously retired his number.
Barry was a moody jerk most of the time, but he was also one of the most exciting baseball players ever to play the game. The Giants will honor him if and when he resolves his legal jeopardy and retires.

Take him away. Do not look upon him. He is a traitor to the Pharaoh. Let the name of Bonds be stricken from every book and tablet... stricken from all pylons and obelisks, stricken from every monument of Egypt. Let the name of... Bonds be unheard and unspoken, erased from the memory of men... for all time.
I remember listening to a caller on a talk radio station saying “they’s just goin after Barry Bonds and accusin him of takin steroids cuz they dont want a black man to break the record! they cant stand a black man bein on top!”
the DJ cut in and said “ummm...sir...Hank Aaron currently holds the record and he’s...”
“Hank Aaron can kiss my black a**! They jus dont want a black man to...”
at which point the DJ silenced the caller’s line and said “ok, next caller...”
Sort of the same thing that Thutmose III did to Hatshepsut’s name at the Temple at Deir el-Bahri.
Bonds had vanished. A morning came, and he was missing from the dugout: a few thoughtless fans commented on his absence. On the next day nobody mentioned him. On the third day Winston went into the Giants souvenir store to look at the yearbook. One of the pages carried a printed list of the members of the team, of whom Bonds had been one. It looked almost exactly as it had looked before — nothing had been crossed out — but it was one name shorter. It was enough. Bonds had ceased to exist: he had never existed.

That should be on YouTube!
must of been one of Obama’s spiritual advisors.
Bonds was a not only a roided out jerk on the field, he was a complete jerk off it as well. He had them put in a leather recliner in the locker room that was roped off and only he was allowed to sit in it or touch it. He was a jerk to the media. He’s was also a jerk to every member of the team as well. Notice that not a single player has come to his defense in the matter? The silence has been deafening. He had 0 friends in the league. The only ones coming to defense are those trying to pull the race card or other roid heads trying to keep attention away from their roid use.
PacBell is one of those parks where any time there is televised game, there are a dozen morons talking on their cellphones behind home plate and waving for the camera.
Same thing up here at Safeco field in Seattle.
Those morons are any pro-sport owners wet dream. People who don’t care about the game, but pay for the most expensive ticket so they can be seen and wave at cameras.
That leather recliner story is something! Bonds will get his this time.
The Giants are terrible. Real Bay Area baseball fans root for the A’s. The A’s may not win the division this year but they will be exciting. Should at least be over .500. The Giants will finish in last place this year, next year, and the year after that as they have no promising minor league prospects.

Wha’s with the picture of Mark Cuban? I thought this was a thread about jerk baseball players, not jerk basketball owners.
Who is Barry Bonds?
who???
SO LET IT BE WRITTEN, SO LET IT BE DONE.
My condolences for your team’s future.
I have lived in Texas since 1991 but I grew up in Vallejo. I have been an A’s fan since 5th grade. I went private school in Walnut Creek for grades 5-8 and one of my classmates was a neighbor of Joe Rudi. We listened to day games on the radio during class on the sly. I have loved the A’s ever since. I am mostly an American League fan but I despise the Yankees and Red Sox. We have tickets to see 2 A’s-Rangers games in May and I can’t wait.
