Obama’s Former Pastor Builds a Multimillion-Dollar Retirement Home
FOX News ^ | 3/27/08 | Jeff Goldblatt

Posted on 03/27/2008 4:08:14 PM PDT by freespirited

This was supposed to be the week that the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. returned to the pulpit to preach for the first time since his anti-American sermons generated nationwide outrage and drew condemnation from his longtime parishioner, Barack Obama.

But, citing security concerns, Wright canceled his speaking engagements in Florida and Texas. A spokeswoman at his former church in Chicago said his schedule is pending.

A two-week FOX News investigation, however, has uncovered where Wright will be spending a good deal of his time in retirement, and it is a far cry from the impoverished Chicago streets where the preacher led his ministry for 36 years.

FOX News has uncovered documents that indicate Wright is about to move to a 10,340-square-foot, four-bedroom home in suburban Chicago, currently under construction in a gated community.

While it is not uncommon for an accomplished clergyman to live in luxury, Wright’s retirement residence is raising some questions.

“Some people think deals like this are hypocritical. Jeremiah Wright himself criticizes people from the pulpit for middle classism, for too much materialism,” said Andrew Walsh, Associate Director of the Leonard E. Greenberg Center for the Study of Religion in Public Life with Trinity College in Hartford, Conn.

Nothing wrong here. Wright is allowing the church to help him reject middleclassness in favor of upperclassness.

You know... I’ve spent a LOT of time over on the TUCC website the last 2 days (reading through a TON of bulletins, etc...). It’s so sad that the type of things taught in this church are so incredibly political, biased, etc... Because the abundance of community services offered by this church is just staggering. I can see why so many would attend this church and why so many in the community would defend Wright and this church no matter what they are saying in their services. Indeed, this church is an incredible example of what can be done through faith-based organizations instead of government for a community in need. Again, how incredibly sad that Rev. Wright would use the pulpit to blaspheme our Lord and teach his brand of hate... And, now this?!? Well, I guess some would say he “deserves” it after all the years he spent helping the community. I still see it as definitely hypocritical... What a JERK this man is...

Looks to me like the Rev has been dipping freely and frequently into the offering plate!

My grandfather was a UCC pastor. His retirement home was a 900 sq ft, 2br cabin outside Indian River, Mich.

The sad thing is that I have his written sermon notes dating back into the 1930's. I find scant evidence that he was a Christian... A brilliant man, with a vocabulary that allowed him to solve the Sunday Crossword Puzzle in under an hour, but mute on the Gospel of Jesus Christ in his weekly messages at the local 1st Congregational Church

That’s pretty unlikely these days.

I am just curious as to the racial makeup of Wright's new hood. I imagine there are probably more whites than blacks there since whitey is always holding blacks down in the KKK of America. Which makes me wonder why, if he finds white Americans to be so evil and racist, he would choose to live in a predominantly white neighborhood where he will have to see what is repugnant to him every day. On the other hand, imagine having to be a neighbor of Jeremiah Wright and having his hate America and hate whitey friends like Wright's good buddy Louis Farrakhan frequently visiting your gated community.

Well I can't tell you anything about the gated community, but I can tell you about the town. It's Tinley Park and you're correct, there are more whites than blacks. The town is 93% white and 2% black, the rest Hispanic, Asian and other.

The well-off white people of Tinley Park will no doubt treat this creep with courtesy, despite his outrageous rhetoric.

It is my understanding the headline is wrong. The house and property apparently belongs to the church, not the Immam.

It amounts a retirement Manse. A church spokesman said it is common for churches to provide retired pastors with housing.

All per Fox News

He would talk "about" God, but nothing about people being sinners in need of a savior. Nothing about a personal relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ. His messages ranged the spectrum of the beauty of nature- fishing and golf were passions of his. Helping the poor, feeding the hungry...

Here in California, that is pretty much the minimum cost you can build at. Nothing fancy. If you want wood floors, natural stone and tile bathrooms, stone kitchen counter tops, nice appliances, moldings, nice windows and doors it will cost a whole lot more. Permit fees alone will cost you about $6 a sqft here.

Gated community!

Is the community gated to keep out the poor black “brothers” and “sisters” that have donated to you over the years?

Wasn’t Jesus was a poor black man according to you?

Or are the gates their to keep out those racist wealthy white people you rail against?

Nice place for a black man to live considering America is a racist white supremest society! (sarcasm)

hypocrite!

Heck we can barely raise enough money to finish our small sanctuary, much less afford a retirement home for our pastor. Granted the church congregation does provide a limited mortgage payment for a modest house for him. He is a God fearing man of God and deserves his wages.

Is anyone else interested in being on, or putting together a Wright/Obama ping list? I’d be willing to help if others think this would be beneficial in some way... The only reason this idea came to me is that I’ve been researching a fair bit into this church and Wright’s ties and being able to work together on these things (and not double up on research that’s already being done) might assure that Obama never gets closer to the White House than his Congressional Office (and hopefully OUT of Congress in the next election).

Well, it’s still a nice place considering he built a profession talking about America being controlled by white supremest.

If America were controlled by white supremest he wouldn’t be living in that big house in a mostly white area — not the why he talks — and he probably knows it too!

From what I saw it looks as if the original intent was 1.6 million, the final not mortgage but line of credit was for 10 million.

Reverend Wright has peen passing a rather "deep hat" to hold that much loose change at collection time.

I do wonder though if B. Husseins sudden generousity, in giving $27,500.00 last year was for the church or for the Racist retreat Wright is building for himself.
