Getting Mrs. Clinton
The Wall Street Journal ^ | March 28, 2008 | Peggy Noonan

Posted on 03/28/2008 4:41:20 AM PDT by ReleaseTheHounds

I think we've reached a signal point in the campaign. This is the point where, with Hillary Clinton, either you get it or you don't. There's no dodging now. You either understand the problem with her candidacy, or you don't. You either understand who she is, or not. And if you don't, after 16 years of watching Clintonian dramas, you probably never will....

What struck me as the best commentary on the Bosnia story came from a poster called GI Joe who wrote in to a news blog: "Actually Mrs. Clinton was too modest. I was there and saw it all. When Mrs. Clinton got off the plane the tarmac came under mortar and machine gun fire. I was blown off my tank and exposed to enemy fire. Mrs. Clinton without regard to her own safety dragged me to safety, jumped on the tank and opened fire, killing 50 of the enemy." Soon a suicide bomber appeared, but Mrs. Clinton stopped the guards from opening fire. "She talked to the man in his own language and got him [to] surrender. She found that he had suffered terribly as a result of policies of George Bush. She defused the bomb vest herself." Then she turned to his wounds. "She stopped my bleeding and saved my life. Chelsea donated the blood."

Made me laugh. It was like the voice of the people answering back. This guy knows that what Mrs. Clinton said is sort of crazy. He seems to know her reputation for untruths. He seemed to be saying, "I get it."

Hilly’s here in Indiana this weekend campaigning. On a radio talk show interview this am they asked her about the “Monica question” that was posed to Chels earlier in the week. (Props to Jake Query of WIBC FM for at least trying to throw her a fastball).

Hilly then spend a couple minutes talking about how proud she is of Chels.

She’s toast and America knows it. That’s why her funds are drying up. She’s still ahead in the PA polls, which is mind-boggling, but I wonder if she’ll end up actually winning that state. (Hopefully, and with the help of Rush.)

But whether she does or not, the bottom line is: she’s toast, and America knows it.

Peggy Noonan has tended towards maudlin in recent years.

This piece, however, reminds me why she's one of the best columnists writing.

It’s pathetic to see the media on attack mode against the Clintons now, after so many years of them polishing and selling the Clinton turds.

Truly, this story is NOTHING.

I think what hillary said is true. Check the video and you can see as she bends down to the little eight year old girl. You can tell she’s using the little girl as a human shield.

It makes sense. Who’s life is more important? The life of the smartest woman in the world or a girl living in a war zone who probably won’t live to see age ten?

I suspect it is finally sinking into the Clintons that politicians in general are to be used and discarded as useful by the leftist MSM. The Clintons were needed in the 90s by the mSM. But now they are yesterday’s news for the lefties. There are others to cover for like the Obamarama show.

McCain is about to see how the MSM can turn 180 degrees.

Dupe discussion of Noonan, do I get to dupe my post?

[Noonan] has been aging gracefully. One of those rare cases of aging TOO gracefully. I prefer it to Morgan and Coulter’s overripeness, but Noonan does irritate me with her affected, Buckleyan elusiveness. I like writers who come to the point at least once every paragraph.

And who loathe Clintons 1000x more than they do Bushes. Peggy often suggests a moral equivalence in her disaffection for politicians, and her entire repertoire usually extends only from contented nod of approval to tsk-tsk-tsk.

I’d really like to see her “push off” like Ulysses, just once more, kick off the lap robe and shove the rocker aside, jump on that porch rail and holler Irish to Heaven.

Note to Peggy: “Do not go gentle...” Just sayin’, hon.

He seemed to be saying, "I get it."

We get it. We got it.

Now when are the blow-dried nitwits in the media going to "get" what Obama is about?

I like Peggy's writing style. It is fluidic, graceful, at times poignant, and yet, profound. She doesn't knock the reader over the head with a blunt instrument; rather, she caresses and soothes, and slowly but unmistakably slips in the stiletto.

I don’t see this story as nothing. All the lies that went before come under the category of “criminal lies”... and how many criminal politicians have there been and how many times in history did a sycophant press try to cover them up? Despicable? Yes. But anything new? Hardly.

This is something brand new in the history of politicians lying. It even dwarfs Kerry’s lies about his service in Vietnam, lies which were calculated not to be found out. And he had a reasonable expectation not to be found out.

But what Hillary did here was to hallucinate. She either actually hallucinated the memory itself. Or, more likely, she hallucinated that despite all the press coverage at the time of the “visit under sniper fire” she would be able to cover it up, be able to not be found out.

That’s psychotic. That’s something new.

I’ve followed (and admired) Peggy for years and noticed a distinct change in her writing post-9/11. I can only think that the day truly affected her at a very deep level. If you haven’t read it, “A Heart A Cross and A Flag” will show you a genesis of her more recent tone. It’s a very moving book that is really just a collection of her WSJ columns in the year following the attacks on NY and Washington.

LANDING ON A JET PLANE
Tune: "Leaving on a Jet Plane" Original

All the odds are stacked, I'm ready to run
I'm standin' here, holdin' my gun
I hate to call you up to say goodbye
But the battle's ragin', I hear the sounds
The tank is waitin', he's shootin' some rounds
I know there's so much danger I could die

So send me to Bosnia
Tell me they'll be bombin' us
Sniper fire will never get me down
I'm landin' on a jet plane
I don't know if I'll be back again
Oh, Bill, we're on the ground

There's so many shots, it takes my breath
So many times I've cheated death
I tell you now, we just lost a wing
Every combat zone, I pay my dues
Every mission flown is stuff I'll use
Some day I'll throw my pantsuit in the ring

So send me to Bosnia
Tell me they'll be bombin' us
Sniper fire will never get me down
I'm landin' on a jet plane
I don't know if I'll be back again
Oh, Bill, we're on the ground

Now the time has come for battle
My future's not as bright as cattle
I'll close my eyes, while the cannons boom
I'll dream about the campaign trail
When I can tell my wartime tale
About the time I faced death and doom

So send me to Bosnia
Tell me they'll be bombin' us
Sniper fire will never get me down
I'm landin' on a jet plane
I don't know if I'll be back again
Oh, Bill, we're on the ground
